Simba couldn't sleep, he just kept staring at the starry sky through the cave entrance. It was definitely a hard day for everyone, first the preparations for the Mfalme Mkuu ceremony, then came the event itself and if that wasn't enough even an earthquake upset everyone. He didn't understand the meaning of it and the more he thought about it, the more confused he became. His mind was messed up by all these thoughts.
Simba shook his head - as if he was trying to get rid of his thoughts - and got up to start off. He was heading to the top of Pride Rock. It was his favourite place when he wanted to be alone or needed to think. He also liked this place because it reminded him of his father, and always felt like his spirit was there. Furthermore, he also hoped for some kind of answers.
When the lion arrived, he sat down on the edge. A beautiful sight unfolded before his eyes with the Gorge in the moonlight, and Simba started pondering what the mystery was about. He remembed Mufasa's old story about the three brothers, yet the current eventline was vague to him.

If Simba listened closely enough, he may have heard a faint - albeit familiar voice of Mufasa in his ear. ”Do not be afraid, son. I have brought the human - the missing piece to your family you need for a reason,” his voice was gentle, but firm. ”Remember my words to you all those years ago. Remember, a family together is strong, and comes in many forms… As do our messages.”
And then it would fade away with the wind.
—————————
Sam didn’t want to admit it, but he was thinking of running.
After all, what the heck had he gotten himself into? A couple of months ago he was just a research assistant. A couple of years ago he was a street urchin who had no one. Now he had uncovered a massive lost city, and joined a lion pride. He was getting close to that lion pride….
And he was scared.
If there was some bigger thing that they were supposed to fulfill. They’d found the wrong kid, he’d told himself. Sam was a nobody: not royalty, not a hero. He was nothing… So why was he here? They needed someone with experience. And wisdom.
David should have been here, not him.
So he’d packed up his stuff, and was ready to go when he saw Simba out on Pride Rock.
He frowned silently. A part of him wanted to leave quietly, without any goodbyes. But the other also remembered that Simba had been the first person to really give him a chance… And it felt wrong. Especially to do to someone who felt even closer to a father for him than David had in some ways.
So taking a deep breath, he set his backpack down and started to make his way to Simba. “… Simba?” His voice was quiet, and though he normally might say “your majesty” - he also knew this was more of a personal talk. “Look, I’m sorry about whatever… Whatever it is I did that made the spirits do that. I can’t imagine what’s going through your’s or anyone’s head…”
He paused a moment then told him. “I don’t know what to do. Like, if I stay - some of your people will be angry. And I’m not your son, I don’t want you to have to defend me or cause more trouble,” He shook his head. “I’m starting to think that voice that brought me here got the wrong guy after all…”
That was the hardest part, he wasn’t really anyone’s kid for anyone to be defending. Let alone a Pride of lions… Why would he be worthy of showing up here? Of turning an entire kingdom on its head with a discovery like… Well like this?

Simba was staring at the ground when the voice started talking to him. The lion raised his gaze towards the sky but saw no one. The voice was talking inside his head. "But I still can't see the reason. You told me stories, you told me about enemy but it's still not clear who it is..." He moaned, hoping for more explanation. Instead of answers from Mufasa a voice spoke behind him. "Sam?" Simba asked in his surprise as he looked back over his shoulder, he didn't expect any company and it could be heard in his voice too. However, the lion was not angry by the boy's presence, what's more, he was glad they could talk alone.
"I'm still looking for answers myself too." The king replied. "I got some guidance from my father," he continued, "but I think it's still not enough." This time Simba had no problems about revealing his connection to Mufasa like before, as it was more like a personal talk. They had got closer to each other recently, like family. "It's not necessarily my father's fault, maybe I am too blind to look beyond what I see."

Sam listened.
It must have been nice to be able to talk to his dad like that he figured. But it didn’t help much if he couldn’t interpret what he wanted, and Sam wasn’t that big a help on that front either. The Pride had been the first time he’d really had anyone to turn to after all.
Taking a seat beside Simba, he looked at him for a moment before deciding what to say. “Well you’ve got it better than most at least if you can talk to him like I hear that voice in my head,” he said, trying to lighten the mood. “I wish I could find my dad or hell, even my mom for answers at this point. I keep feeling like I’m here for a reason… But I don’t get it. My family has no connection to Africa.”
He paused for a moment. Looking up at the stars. “And I don’t even know if that’s true. My mom threw me out when I was a really, really young cub,” he admitted. Something he hadn’t really… Talked about before. “I barely even remember having a parent let alone where I come from. Or if I’m connected to this… Jabari guy at all.”

Simba pondered for a moment before he reacted to the boy. "Hm, maybe it's my father who keeps talking to you." As he uttered these words, he was considering about this option and he found it could be possible. "You said a voice had brought you here," he continued, "and my father told me he had brought you here. So I think it's him."
The lion raised his eyes to the stary sky again, getting lost in his thoughts. He trusted every word of Mufasa despite the fact he still didn't understand them. That's why he so wanted to go to the Tree of Life on one hand (on the other hand, he also wanted to see his son Kion).
"In my opinion I will find the answers at the Tree of Life. And I am going to go there."

Sam was silent.
Mufasa? Talking to him!? But he was one of the great kings. And he was just… Just a little kid from Brooklyn who no one had wanted. Why the hell would he? How could he? Sam felt his head spin a little as he tried to process this and find words to formulate again. Neither of which were coming easy.
“Mu - your dad. He… To me?” He finally managed to process some words. “But why me? I’m a nobody. My own parents didn’t want me. Why would he want me here? Let alone around his family.”
Though Sam couldn’t hear him now, Mufasa would whisper into Simba’s ear once more here: ”Search your heart. You know the answer.”
Then Simba brought up the Tree of Life - his eyes widened as he did. Like… The actual tree? “I’ll go with you!” He didn’t waste a second. “Take me. It’ll calm things down a bit… And I want answers too. Plus it was… David’s dream to see it.”

"I don't know." Came the short but honest reply, there wasn't even a hint of anger in his voice. Because Simba really didn't understand yet why Mufasa wanted Sam to be here so much. "But I believe in him. I am sure he has the reason why he did so, we just... don't see it yet."
Before reacting to the boy, the king closed his eyes and let the wind mess up his mane a little to enjoy the moment while Mufasa was talking to him. Probably Sam didn't hear it now, as he didn't mention anything.
"No, Sam." The lion shook his head and looked at him. "My father wants you to be here. You need to stay. Especially now when more and more people show up in the surrounding territories."

Don't see it yet, that was one way of putting it.
Sam honestly still felt like there had to be a mistake made there. Or maybe that when David died, they had to improvise. Because there was no way, in his mind, that the great kings had just decided that he needed to be here. "I guess I just can't... Imagine anyone actually thinking I was worth it all this time," He admitted finally. His voice distant. "Until I met you, everyone threw me aside except David. Back home, I was a lost cause."
It was honestly the truth. So many people looked down on Danny for that reason. "Maybe I'm just never going to understand what you guys see in me..."
What!? But that wasn't... Ugh. That was frustrating, Sam felt for a minute like arguing the situation in his usual yelling way. But also realized that wasn't going to get him anywhere. "But Simba, if you find answers there, I could too. I'm sure Kiara and everyone else can take care of things here way better than I could," He said with all honesty in his voice. "Plus I can handle the trip. You saw me with those three hyenas the other day. I'm not afraid of any danger or anything. You need that on a journey!"

"I know you are not afraid of danger." Simba noted as he stood up and made his way towards the pathway, waiting for Sam to follow him. "In this case you remind me of myself a little bit. When I was a cub I knew no fear, but soon I had to learn being reckless can be dangerous. You need to learn it, too. You have to learn to see when you can go forward and when you have to step back." The king's voice was soft, not rebuking, and spoke like a father to his child. It was a warning for the future that Sam would need to assess the situations correctly and he can't get into every game because he would put himself in serious danger - just like Simba when he had taken Nala to the Elephant Graveyard.
"Besides, if my father has faith in you, you can be sure he has the reason. When I became king I didn't see my own value either. I didn't think I was ready to be king... Me? Who grew up in a jungle? Then I started to realize that I had everything with me: family, friends, and the courage within myself. I know we are not your real family, but we are your friends and we don't turn away from you."

Sam was silent as he listened to Simba.
He has never really considered a lot of what he had to say. Maybe because David had always been the adventurous no fear type and has been the only parental figure he’d ever had. He didn’t know anymore. What he did know was that what Simba said resonated with him on a level he hadn’t had anyone do before.
“I guess I just never… Thought about it like that, you know. That I should be afraid of things,” he admitted honestly. “I used to think that where I came from. Fear was a bad thing…”
When Simba mentioned they weren’t his real family though was when he said something he almost immediately wanted to crawl into a hole over. “… I wish you guys were my family.”
What the hell Sam!? Had he just said that out loud? His face went red in embarrassment trying to hide it quietly. “I-I’m sorry I shouldn’t have said that. I uh… That’s…” damn how did he talk his way out of this one? “I know you would never…” His voice distant.
Mufasa’a voice echoed. ”Now maybe you will understand… he needs you… Just as much as you need him.” He stated. ”Do what you wish but know you have my blessing..” it would be the last time Simba would hear him that night.

Kiara had been working things over in her mind since the events at the gorge. Inside, she knew it wasn’t because of Sam being welcoming into the Pride. No, this felt like something different. It wasn’t meant for punishment, but they couldn’t put their paw on it either. She had retreated to patrols with the Lion Guard once they had returned, using it as a chance to check on the lands, but also to check in on Jasiri and the Hyena clan. They were important neighbors and with something so large… They had to have felt it, right?
When she had returned, she had found a quiet place to think, though a lot of that meant pacing back and forth while she ran things over in her head once again. What had all that meant? Why had it happened? What were the Great Spirits of the past trying to tell them. She searched the skies in search of answers. She hadn’t heard the voice of her grandfather except when her brother was around and that had been once. “Grandfather… I know I am not yet the Queen of these lands… But my family needs help… My pride needs help… What can you reveal to me that I can understand… I don’t believe that quake was a way of punishment from the spirits… But… What answers or what questions… What needs to be asked?”
Kiara looked at the skies and then back down before she laid down to try and find some form of peace. She hoped that Mufasa might be willing to speak to her even though she knew she wasn’t Queen yet. Rafiki had told her that he would speak to her when she was ready, that he would speak to her whether or not she was Queen.

"You belong to us, you belong here and this is what matters." Simba gave the boy a soft smile as he walked beside him. "Family and love are not always of blood - this was what my father once told me when I was a cub. And he was right. Just think of Scar... he was linked to us by blood but... what was he worth with it? He killed his own brother." The lion frowned when he recalled this terrible memory again. He didn't harbor hatred against Scar in his heart, but to Simba he was not an uncle anymore, just a stranger lion. "Don't matter what species we are, if we work together, we are one." He had been teaching this lesson to Kiara from the beginning, but he had understood the true meaning of it only when Kiara had opened his eyes in the second battle against Zira.
As they got down from the Summit, Simba stopped for a moment to look at the sky once more before entering the cave. When they walked in Simba noticed Kiara's sleeping spot was empty. "Wait." He stopped again. "Where's Kiara? She should have come back by now."

Sam listened to Simba - and Mufasa in turns wise words.
Sam, hadn’t thought of that before. Probably because no one had ever wanted to adopt him so he assumed a family was just not made for him, blood or not. And he hadn’t considered that animals felt that way as well. His mind circled a few times as he thought about it. It was a lot not to get emotional, since he had searched his whole life for a place to belong in that sense.
Finally gaining his composure he spoke. “That’s a… Concept I think our species share. Back home they called it “adoption”. Sometimes if your family couldn’t take care of you. Another family would. They became your parents,” he explained honestly. “I guess I just… Gave up on anyone wanting me in their family a long time ago.”
He paused a moment trying to find his words. “I guess I just didn’t realize you felt that way about me,” he admitted. And it was honest, and the truth in that sense. Sam hadn’t felt love before - maybe from David but if it was love he hadn’t actually said that. ”Even if you’ve been more of a father to me than anyone in my life I’ve ever known if I’m being honest.” He paused. “I just never thought a king like you would ever want a kid like well… Me.” He admitted. “I’m honored, and I don’t think I could ever repay you.”
He stopped dead in his tracks when he noticed what Simba did though, raising an eyebrow. “Huh, good question? Should we go looking for her?”

TAG: Samwel Igwe, SimbaLOCATION: Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^ Once Mufasa had finished with Simba, his thoughts turned to Kiara. He knew that Kiara was lost, most of the Pride was. And no doubt with the coming events would be. There were many things that had yet to be revealed and Mufasa still needed to tread lightly. Even if it felt as though he had “meddled” a bit with the human, he also knew it was only one small cog in a much bigger plan. Appearing in the clouds as he once did… He considered his words carefully. ”You are correct, Kiara. This was an omen of hope,” he explained in his wise tone. ”But all creatures, big and small fear what they cannot ever predict: change. You have always had a strong and kind heart… And that is something you’ll all need for the trials ahead.”He hummed quietly, speaking again from his head. ”You must be brave, and hold strong to your beliefs. You do not know it yet, but you, and your brothers, are more important to the future than you assume,” he said calmly. ”You may very well be the generation that completes our circle.”

The clouds above swirled, catching her a little off guard. Was this actually happening? She had just thought she would talk to him, she did not imagine that he would actually answer and she stood, walking towards the ever growing clouds.
When she spoke, she listened and did not speak too quickly. An Omen of Hope? She smiled when he spoke about how she had always had a strong and king-heart. Had she been a human, her cheeks would have been red with a blush. She nodded when he spoke about the trials ahead. Strength and Kindness? That seemed to be the point he was making.
Brave and Beliefs... Her beliefs... She thought about those for a moment. She had always wanted to protect the Pridelands, just as her father and brother, but she had always been more accepting and willing to give others a chance to prove themselves. She glanced in the direction Kovu would be in. She had accepted him long before others had, those who had turned their backs because of Zira and Scar.
"Thank you, Grandfather," she said as she sat down and looked to the sky. She didn't know what else to say and she thought about it, but there were no other questions she felt he would answer. Rafiki had made it known several times that the spirits guided, they didn't give one straight answer. "Grandfather... are there other's like Sam?" She knew there were other humans, but ones like Sam?
