"Indeed. Learning to speak as a diplomat, yet hold your tongue like a prince... This will be difficult, I assure you." He said, clearly not intending to scare, only make clear and inform. "I hope you do not end up a hostage, those are always tricky situations, and there's always the risk of internal divide..." he shook his head.
"Worry not. The Royal Mjuzi practice to hold the cubs so they know they are safe." he smiled a sort of... patriotic sort of smile, pleased at his people's talents even if he was not involved per se. "As a baby it means from birth they are your burden to bear... far more heavy, but taken in by relative choice, that commends respect as well."

Kabili nodded, he wasn’t expecting everything to be easy. After all, learning to be a lion had been difficult. “Don’t worry Zazu I don’t expect it all to be easy,” he admitted honestly with a small smile. “If anything I expect more challenges and that’s kind of exciting.”
When he mentioned being trained, Kabili supposed that did make a lot of sense. With a thoughtful smile he added. “I mean it makes sense. I’m sure they train a lot for a ceremony like that,” he mused. “It’s so well thought out and beautiful. Even if I still don’t understand all of it. Outside of the dirt and the fruit on my head symbolizing I was being marked as Simba’s son. Or least I was assuming.”
He hadn’t understood all of it, but he had felt pride and genuine enthusiasm at his being part of it. Though he looked thoughtfully at Zazu. “Yeah, even before this I thought people who adopted were brave,” he admitted. “I’m sure it takes a lot to take a chance on some kid you don’t already know.” He admitted.

Zazu smiled, "You don't need to understand it, only appreciate! Especially as the cub. Once you are ready to have children of your own you will learn the meaning of it all." he said, "You do intend to carry forward our traditions, do you not?"
"What is important is that they are your parents that will love you and help you into your new life as a Pridelander."

Wait, his children? Kabili blinked. Did they get presented that way too now? The thought had genuinely surprised him as he had never considered that. “Wow, my kids will do that when they’re born? That’s so cool!” He replied rather excitedly. Honestly these were little things he’d never thought of. “Of course I want to keep up traditions. I mean, the more I learn the more I like to learn about it.” He explained.
His comment about his parents was a good point. It didn’t always matter in the end, just what it meant. “It makes sense. I mean, us humans do the same thing when we adopt,” he explained. “You go to this place called a courthouse and your parents sign a lot of papers. Make promises to take care of you... That kind of stuff.”
He then paused. “Man, I guess our cultures aren’t so different in some ways huh?”

Zazu smiled, "Why of course. They will be honored all the same." Simba had said to treat him the same, he had no fear of reaction, though Zazu was consumed by it. "You have all the respect of having Simba's lineage, all the honor of a prince." he bowed to punctuate the point.
He nodded, perplexed by some of the words but he got the meaning. "Sounds like something I would like." he joked at his expense. "As foreign as they can be, they are still culture."

That made sense. It seemed that unlike some monarchies the entire royal family was treated as dignified. “I think that’s pretty cool. Though I kinda assumed it’s not irregular,” he honestly figured. After all Simba had looked into what tradition was for a reason. “Like I’m guessing I’m not the first person adopted into the royal family or you guys wouldn’t have known how to go about it.” He chuckled. “Just the first human.”
Oh yes, definitely something he would like. Kabili chuckled a little and added. “It’s a lot harder than it was here too. Like there were tons of conditions to things. And you’d have to prove a lot of stuff,” he explained thoughtfully. “Your culture seems to take care of the people in it a lot more than we do basically. There a lot of it is about how much “money” you masks or how good you look.”

Zazu hrmed, "The first one any of us know of, thankfully we have keepers of knowledge." he said, he didn't say it but this implied it wasn't himself per se. "The only royal adoption I, or any of us, are aware of was young Kovu, and it didn't last long, thankfully."
He shook his head, "Dreadful. If we don't take care of each other, and work together, ruin comes. As... he proved.". He thought on it, "You surely have seen what could happen when our relative harmony is disturbed." he chuckled. "Harmony, fitting with our propensity for song." he noted. "Responsibility is the very purpose of a leader. I am grateful Mufasa did manage to instill what he could into Simba, that Nala managed to learn so well. That Timon and Pumbaa could help him." he sighed heavily.
"There is one thing you must understand..." he said, "About Zira, as a member of the royal family." he started. "She cannot be allowed to become a martyr, like Scar."

Interesting though he raised his eyebrow. After all who was Kovu? He had never honestly heard of him yet. “Oh, who’s Kovu?” He asked curiously.
When he mentioned how they didn’t take care of each other and society collapsed, Kabili agreed though he gave a dark look. “It’s actually why I’m glad Simba and Nala adopted me. Back at home... They’d do horrible things,” he managed. “They’d throw me in an orphanage or a workhouse. Orphanage throws you out at 18 without a job or real work. Workhouse used you for slave labor and still functions like one. They try to make kids like me disappear.”
Wow he was glad for Mufasa too at this rate too. Taking a deep breath he nodded. “Honestly, I just wish I could have met Mufasa,” he replied. “He seems like he was a great king at least.”
A martyr? He shuddered, the thought making him nervous. That really was the last thing they needed. “I don’t even know what a martyr is but it makes me nervous.” He muttered.

Zazu blinked, "Er, no one has told you the story of Kovu?" by his tone, he really didn't want to... but it was also his duty to. "Sometime before he was slain, Zira's cub... we think it was anyway. Kovu was adopted by Scar, and named heir." he said. "Naturally Simba informed her that Scar took power in a coup, his 'heir' had no legitimacy."
He gulped, "She... did not take that well so she attacked him, and so she was exiled... she, her family, and those who took her side... for whatever reason I could not tell you. Although I was there, I was kept in a cage. I saw only the attack on Simba and exile."
The hornbill carried on, as hornbills do. "A martyr means one who inspires others by their demise. The leader may be gone, but if their followers... like Zira's, I fear; truly believe in the cause... it makes things much worse."

Kabili listened intently to Zazu’s story.
The thought of any heir of Scar’s, let alone son of Zira’s taking the throne made a chill run up his spine. It was a terrible thought, even if he knew he couldn’t judge someone based on the actions of their father. “I feel bad for Kovu in a way. Getting associated with Scar like that,” he then added. “But I gotta admit being around those two didn’t do him any favors.”
After a moment, he did admit though. “I guess I see why there was some hesitancy from people with me though,” he explained. “If the last time an adopted heir was produced or anything - that happened.”
Another moment before he pointed out. “At least there’s like no chance of me being on the throne anyway.” He chuckled nervously.
Oh! So that was a martyr? That wasn’t a good idea. If anything it was a terrible, terrible notion. “Yeah I guess I was right to not like the idea of a martyr.” He admitted.
When there had been some silence for a bit, he decided to explain. “I don’t mean to scare you off of humans with what I was saying about how they treat kids like me by the way,” he explained honestly. Feeling he may have if this was anything to go by. “There are good people too. I promise. And good parts of culture.”

Zazu shrugged softly, "As far as I know, if he hadn't he'd be... worse than exiled." he said, "Exile may not be pleasant, but it is of his mother's own doing, and he has a life, if not an easy one." he said, trying not to be too cold. "His story may be sad, a tragedy even, but it is Zira's fault, her evil and that of Scar."
He raised a brow, "Pardon?" he put his wing up toward Kabili. "A few good people do not save the horrors you have described." he said sadly. "Yours is a terrible world. Children as slaves, abandoned with regularity. I hesitate to call it civilization."

That did make sense he guessed.
Though he couldn’t still help but feel bad for him of course but that was because as many pointed out, Kabili had a big heart. He had always been the type that wanted to help or feel compassion for others. “Well at least he isn’t totally in danger or anything right?” He replied. “But I agree it was definitely Zira’s fault.”
He... Guessed Zazu did make a point. What they did to a lot of people, himself and his mom included was not right. “No you’re right humans did a lot of bad. That’s why I’m glad you guys saved me from having to go back and see a lot of it,” he explained. “I mean... Unless someone forced me to go back or they gave me up or something.”
He then was sure to add. “But where we do have strength is same as you our diversity. There are so many different cultures and stories,” he replied. “I wish I had my books and comics to show you what I mean.”

Zazu nodded, "Of course not. His mother cares for her children over anything... as far as I can tell she's not a bad mother. Hence we cannot take her cubs... we must be either unfair, or unjust.".
The hornbill shook his head dismissively, "Making the best of it does not make it... not terrible." he claimed. "If you do find them, I would be happy to have a look."

Huh that was a little shocking. After all she had literally threatened to sit his throat. But then again he supposed it wasn’t so much about any kids, but her own. Period. “You coulda fooled me with that one. She did want to eat me and slit my throat after all,” he joked. “God she’s going to have a field day when she finds out I’m royalty now. Kinda wish I could see the look on her face.”
Making the best of it definitely did not make it not terrible he was right. “That’s true. My mom would be much happier I’m here,” he admitted honestly. “One of her worst fears was what would happen to me if she wasn’t here anymore. Honestly, I hadn’t even thought that would be a problem until it was.”
He brightened. “Well hopefully we’ll find the others and my stuff. And you’ll have tons to read.”

Zazu put his wing over his face at the thought, "I, personally dread to have her know such things." he uncovered his face and beak, "It was however inevitable. We can certainly prepare."
The hornbill stretched his wings out, "Worry not... while she may not be here with you, she did bring you to us, and she would be proud, I am sure, of your position here. It is sad that you lost her and the question was er, answered, simultaneously..." he lowered his beak, solemnly.
He hrmed, "Well, young master, we already do plan to search for traces of Zion, surely if it is intact, we will find it, then you may teach me to read it." he said, not exactly optimistically, but encouraging nonetheless. "If you find any leads, you may certainly request my services."
