That was a fair point. It had been quick.
Kabili looked thoughtful for a minute before also deciding he could trust the bird. Just enough to tell him the same thing he told Simba. “It was quick. But some part of me felt like I belonged here,” he admitted honestly. “The whole journey there was this voice guiding me on. Telling me to get up and keep going. And it only went away when I found... You guys. I figured it had to mean something.”
He then admitted. “I don’t know how much I believe about the Ancient Kings watching this place,” he said. “But if they are I feel one of them guided me here. Maybe it’s just luck or dehydration though. We’re known to hallucinate.”
Kabili shrugged, he supposed that was fair. Though he was surprised that he’d be learning animal languages too! Now that was cool, and something no other human probably got the chance to do. “I guess you’re right about being qualified. My mom studied animals,” he explained. “But man, actual animal language? I can’t wait!”
Ohhh right! Herds. “I mean I’ve made friends of people in different herds and stuff. But not a full herd themselves?”

Zazu rolled his eyes, "My advice is to not expect too much from them." he said, gesturing up with his beak. It was clear he had no doubt they were real. "They always say cryptic things, and come at the last minute." he sighed, "Not that we don't appreciate it, but... try to solve your own problems." he said.
"I'm sure they are not yet done with you. I'm not sure about destiny, but if he spoke to you once, he surely will again." he assured Kabili.
Zazu smiled at Kabili's eagerness to learn, "Well, you will need practice partners. I wouldn't expect a whole herd... but we'll need at least three willing members, preferably more of course, to teach you their language."

That made sense.
Though he did wonder if Zazu was right. Maybe they wouldn’t be done with him. Maybe it was just the slow start to something more. But either way, he did smile about it. “Either way I’m glad they did,” he explained honestly. “I feel more at home here with animals then I did back in the human world. But then again, I grew up in a family that liked animals better.” He admitted.
He then added rather honestly. “I just hope I can make them proud now. And prove I was worth saving and teaching.”
Now that was all honestly very fair. A little bit of each type he supposed, considering no one was going to get a whole herd to teach. “Well so far I’ve met Bunga, and Fuli... She’s a cheetah,” he then included. “Liki, he was a pig... And that Makucha dude. The one dad says I should stay away from.”

Zazu nodded, pleased that Kabili didn't seem to have trouble believing. It would seem, strange that Zazu of all had no doubt.
"We animals do have our... perks? I suppose anyway. It would he odd to not have our diversity, for one."
He stared like daggers at Kabili at his words. "Do not talk of worth in such a way. No one is worth more, some roles are more important but we are all equal in the Circle of Life!" he said sternly
He moved on, "Cheetahs tend to not participate... and Bunga is our only badger, I doubt he even knows Badgerese. As for leopard, no. Not from Makucha or even his leap."
He hummed, "Learning pig with Liki... I warn you, their customs are... strange, filthy even, and their language a bit crude and easy to get the wrong meaning... even more than Elephantese."

Kabili nodded his head. They were definitely more diverse and more proud of their diversity than humans. “Yeah, we have diversify too. But there’s a lot more... Tension,” he honestly replied. “Segregation and mistreatment and stuff. We actually just fought a war to keep a whole race from being exterminated.”
His comment about the Circle of Life... Actually made him smile a little. A quiet reminder that he didn’t have to worry about that. “Right, I always forget about that. That’s another thing humans feel different about,” he honestly admitted. “I need to get myself to think more like a lion I know. I’m working on it.”
Kabili did listen intently to what he said about the other languages. Those were all interesting points, though he definitely didn’t want to put himself behind. That was all an excellent point. “Maybe we’ll go with whichever language you think is easier,” he explained honestly. “You don’t know Swahili too do you? It could be helpful if other humans from our continent show up. I can communicate with them.. But I don’t know if any animals speak it.”

Zazu just stared at Kabili, "Oh... I do suppose, hrm..." it did put things into perspective, though Kabili spoke of humans as a whole, and didn't seem anything of a veteran. While his race had faced something like that, he himself had not. "Dreadful..." he said, simply. "I would... well not like to hear more, but I am sure it is not pleasant. Let us stay on the subject of the future shall we?" he said, it was a clear display of him being... himself.
Zazu nodded, "I understand you mean nothing by it, but things will fall apart if our represantative doesn't value each creature's word. And himself as well." he wagged his wing at Kabili.
The bird quirked a brow, "Why yes, it is one of our oldest. Mostly used in formal settings, for names and the like, and we create loanwords and the like..." he mused, "Few of us know it as a language, though this does include myself." he said proudly. "If you insist upon it, I can teach it, but er... it's difficult to make a group." he said, for one it would require he and Rafiki work together.
"Hrm, if you must leave the decision to me, then Zebra it is. It is easier to learn, if a bit trickier to teach, so the brunt of the work would be on myself and Thurston."

Kabili solemnly agreed. It had been rather the most dreadful part of his whole childhood. And it still left its scars veteran or not that was for sure. “Yeah, you’d really probably not. It wasn’t a good look on humans,” he explained honestly. “But hopefully they’ll learn - eventually.”
That... Did make sense. Kabili realized that he had to start carrying himself like royalty now that he was in a way. He wasn’t born in his station - but Simba had seen him worthy to have it so he would work on that. “Right, I mean I wasn’t royalty before. But I am now. I guess I just need to work on acting the part,” he chuckled nervously. “That’s the part I struggle with the most. How to carry myself like that. The way mom, dad, Kion, and Kiara do...” he admitted.
He did indeed insist on learning Swahili and he’d tell the bird exactly why. “It’s important I learn it because not everyone will respond to talking animals the way I did. If we ever need to make friends with natives or others... A human representative would be most important,” he explained. “And most of the world outside here doesn’t speak English. Swahili’s the native tongue.”
Oh god, Thurston. How had he known it was going to be Thurston? But he tried not to think of it that way - to the best of his ability. “I mean how bad can it be? I’m sure there’s a nice guy in Thurston. Mostly.” He said.

Zazu nodded, "I thank you for... sharing that." he hrmed, "We would not share our worst with you, either. A fair view should come first, the low points, well... they take certain care." he noted.
The bird smiled, "Learning to carry yourself like that is key to this job, so it will be of great help to learn that." he said, "Kion struggles with it, he doesn't seem to like seeing himself as royal as such... Er, Scar had his.. effect on everything." he sighed.
He frowned, "You intend to be a diplomat to humans as well... great." he understood, it was rather more about being a buffer between the magic that was talking animals. "It will be difficult. I will have to ask around about fluency. We may even..." he gulped, "Need to talk to the Backlanders or even Outlanders." he shuddered, "We need at least one more who is both capable and willing." he said.
Zazu blinked, "...Pardon?" he seemed utterfly confused, then sighed. "You must keep an open mind." he scolded, "He's a great, loyal and capable prey leader. He makes mistakes, certainly... many of them, but mistakes bring lessons." he nodded for emphasis. "Talk to him as a zebra, and you'll see how wise he is." he smiled. "Yes, you will see the value of language." he said. "Swahili... I promise to look for more who can help there... but be patient and learn zebra first."

Kabili was pretty sure he knew what he meant.
Kion had trouble? But he seemed to carry himself so well! Kabili was proud to be the son of royalty but he didn’t know how to show it. But he also knew Simba and Nala had seen something in him - something he needed to find. “Well I’m sure I can learn. After all, mom and dad saw something in me I didn’t,” he admitted. “I mean otherwise they wouldn’t have taken such a big chance on me, right?” After all - he was a big gamble and he acknowledged that.
He paused as he thought for a moment about Zazu’s own words before. “... Like he really said to treat me like any of his other kids?” It was something he hadn’t expected. He had almost assumed that he’d always be a rung bellow his adoptive siblings. And clearly - the action meant a lot to him.
Moving onward however, he noted Zazu’s frown, as well as heeding his words on Thurston. He supposed both made sense in their own way, but he did want to make it clear. “Believe me, my relationships with humans would only be professional,” of course until he found a wife - but that went without saying. “I just want to make sure I have every base covered.”
He then added. “So when exactly did you want to talk to dad anyway?”

Zazu nodded, "Perhaps, it is hard to know how they feel inside, they have not shared anything like this with me... even if they had, I'm sure they would have wanted it private. Don't focus on your adoption."
He smiled as he questioned his earlier words. it definitely showed he listened. "Those were his words. There is to be no... segregation." he said, "Did I present the option? Certainly." he had no trouble admitting that, "Presenting an option does not equal endorsement." he said, he sure had a complicated job...
The hornbill nodded, "A fine idea." he said, in regards to professional treatment of humans. "You have a lot to deal with, a lot on your mind, a lot to learn... we will do our best." he said, simply.
"We will talk to your father on the morning of Kupatana, your training is to begin the day after. I ask that you not speak of the details until we speak to him." he said, "I mostly want you to have time to reflect... confide in close friends at most, or keep it... vague. You know, just say I am offering a job; I hate to endorse lies, but state only vaguely of some of the duties. Or just that I am teaching you languages, or the like... But no one should know of your potential new status before his highness."
Zazu took a breath after that, "Until then, I recommend getting used to your new status." he said, "I'll have you used to being bowed to before you know it." he chuckled.

Kabili nodded on all accounts.
He did know what Zazu meant. He didn’t seem to be the type to be malicious about things like that. But moreso the “explore all options” type, which he could definitely respect. “Don’t worry. I get it,” he smiled. “It just means a lot to me that dad cares that much.”
Of course he did have a lot to learn. But he listened very closely to Zazu’s instructions. He could understand what he was saying, until Simba approved it after all, he didn’t want to get too far ahead of himself. He seemed to be the kind of dad who was protective of his kids. Or who might have other ideas.
“Don’t worry, our secret’s safe with me,” he smiled. “I was always good at that kind of stuff. Mom said I should have been a spy.” He joked. Though of course he would make a bad spy, just like any kid would.
Oh right! Getting used to his new status. He definitely figured Zazu would have him doing that in no time at the rate they were going. But all the same, he did think to ask... “Any... Advice on that?” He asked honestly. “You’ve been in charge of the royal family for a bit I’m guessing. How would you... Go about it?”

The hornbill's expression didn't change, he was that confident. "If he did not care that much, he would not be your father, now would he?" Zazu questioned, "Stern as he can be, he has opened his heart to you. He intends to love you as much as his own children." His expression was clear, smart as he was, he never knew someone who didn't mean well.
He raised a brow at Kabili's statement, "Just remember there's a separation between diplomacy and espionage..." he dreaded the very thought of Kabili abusing diplomatic immunity.
Zazu chuckled, "Oh no no, I am not in charge of anything." he put his wing out, similar to an out-stretched hand. "A few formal affairs and it will come natural, I assure you." he hrmed, "I... don't often have any requests for my advice." he chuckled, "More formal events, perhaps? I can always arrange that."

Kabili looked thoughtfully.
He hadn’t thought of it like that, but Zazu was probably right. Simba had known exactly what he was doing by calling him his son rather than just letting him into the Pride. “I’m glad he did too,” he admitted honestly with a smile curling onto his lips. “He’s made one heck of a dad. And he’s way wiser than I was ever expecting.”
Oh of course! “No no, I’d never actually be a spy. I don’t *like* lying.” He told the majordomo very point blank. “Especially not when someone matters to me. I kind of tend to spill my guts.”
He supposed that did make sense - he had felt a great deal of pride at the ceremony. It was the first time he’d done something so out of his comfort zone and it made him feel good. “Well I can definitely see where that would help. The presentation was kind of scary at first. But it felt... Right,” he admitted as he perked up a little bit. “Like it was the first time I felt a part of the community fully. And I mean, it kinda was the first time in a way I guess.” He chuckled.

Zazu gulped, "Simba? Wise? he questioned, then immediately looked nervous. "Well, of course... on many things! I would never er... he put his wing-tips together, showing his nervousness further.
He moved on swiftly. "Good... but you could use training on keeping quiet, misdirecting, in the event of... capture... he said.
The hornbill nodded, "Trust me, we always have someone think that Rafiki is going to toss the cub off Pride Rock... Usually not during the ceremony but I have heard..." he grumbled. "If you think Thurston is bad... his father...." he shook his head.

Of course Zazu was going to say that. But then again it seemed like Simba still had a lot to learn too.
He did listen to him about keeping his mouth quiet. Honestly, again he hadn’t thought about it. But it was true, it was probably like a regular kingdom - enemies would love to get their hands on the kids of a king. “Yeah, I’m sure that’s true,” Kabili pointed out honestly. “There’s stories all the time in history of kids being held for ransom when their parent is important. I can’t imagine when you’re both a diplomat and a prince.”
Oh god the literal thought. Kabili couldn’t help but chuckle a little - not because it was funny but the fact that it could happen if he wanted to. “Suddenly I’m really glad I wasn’t a baby,” he admitted honestly. “I can’t imagine how weird it would be to have those blessings put on you as a baby. But being held atop that ridge I’d be freaked out I’d be thrown too.” He joked.
