Fuli the cheetah was walking through the grasslands at a slow trot on a bright sunny afternoon. She had already eaten, and had decided to go exploring that day, venturing out a bit further than usual towards the border of the Pridelands. After all, why shouldn't she? She was smiling to herself, quite content with her lifestyle of running about, hunting and sightseeing. After a good few minutes, she found herself at the edge of the Pridelands, and she was more than ready to venture out and see something new. After all, it wasn't the Outlands she was walking into, so it wasn't like she'd get jumped by hyenas. The feeling of the sun on her fur and the wind blowing through the plains was comforting, as was the silence. Even if it was slightly unsettling.

Makucha was patrolling the border, as had become his new favorite hobby. The other leopards were happy to stick to their trees, but not this one. As long as he left them alone he could advance his plans. He spotted a new leopard in the distance, wait, no... a cheetah. He kept low to the ground, approaching her while also aiming to avoid alerting her.
"What is her business?" he thought as he prowled.

As Fuli trotted along through the fields, she paused. That unfamiliar, eerie feeling was coming back now. And it was now accompanied by an unfamiliar scent. And although she was new to the particular scent, she knew what animal it came from. A leopard. Fuli scowled at the thought of that species. They were like cheetahs, but more sly, slower, bigger and meaner. They had retractable claws, they could climb trees, and they often killed cheetahs. Fuli was confident she could handle herself, but was still uneasy as she pressed on.

Makucha soon got to keep pace with her, returning to skulking up to close the distance. He got fairly close, before he yelled nice and low. "Cheetah! I don't remember inviting you for a meal!" he said, just before sprinting at her in his classic zig-zag fashion. If he had wanted her dead, he wouldn't have mocked her, but still he wasn't being very nice either.

Fuli turned around and saw a leopard charging her from the side, but kept calm. She knew the leopard couldn't catch her if he tried. She casually dashed away from him, matching his zigzagging move for move. "And I don't remember asking, leopard!" she countered, staying just slow enough that the leopard could keep up with her. She fake-yawned to drive home her point. If Makucha wanted to catch her, he'd have to work for it.

He growled as she dodged him, and easily at that! "You're fast." he said, as if she didn't know it already. "What did you come to my pal's territory for? To play tag? he scoffed, sizing her up, with a smirk. "Or were you seeking my attention? he teased. "Because you've got it. Cheetah."

Fuli rolled her eyes, slightly amused by this leopard's struggle to keep up. She wore a playful grin. "The name's Fuli, and I was just out exploring. But if you want to play tag..." She went into a full sprint, running a full circle around the leopard for nothing more than simple enjoyment. "Then we can do that!" Fuli wasn't planning on this, but if she could make this leopard lose his mind then it would be a good day for her as a cheetah. It felt like her moral obligation to show this jerk who the real best cat species was.

Makucha growled, "Hey! Cheetah...!" She was spunky, for a sure enemy, he liked her as one. He followed her run, and once she stopped he growled some more. "You want a playdate?" he tried to keep mocking her, "Fuli, "Just keep telling me alll about you." he chuckled, arrogance could be used.

Fuli began pacing slowly around the leopard, chuckling slyly to herself. "All right. I'm a cheetah, as you know. I'm the fastest animal there is in all the Pridelands, and I'm better than you," she said quite snarkily. "What, you jealous? I know I'd be, leopard." She snickered. "You big dumb cats can't do anything worth my respect. Who needs to climb trees, anyways? Highly overrated skill, if you ask me." She stayed on her feet, moving slowly and deliberately. She was ready to spring at a moment's notice, if need be. And she was more than happy to do so.

He watched her, growling as she used his offer as a way to gloat. "Faster, maybe. But you have a lot to learn if you think you are better than me." he growled low, "I'm not jealous, and don't call me dumb!" he gave a little roar "If you think you're so much better then I'll compete, but don't make claims you can't back up." He knew his temper would get the better of him, if she wouldn't give him some useful insight about her.

Fuli was glad to have run into this leopard. This was proving to be most enjoyable. "Oh, I can back it up. The question is, can you? If you think you're so much better than me, then prove it. Why is a leopard better than a cheetah?" She stepped a little closer to the leopard, a sassy smile on her face, eyes narrowed threateningly. "Actually, don't answer that. You're not."

Makucha growled, raising his claw as she continued to sass him, was he showing off by not extending his claws, or just restrained enough. "I'll slash that stupid smirk off your face." he threatened. "I can back it up, I've got more experience, all you seem to know is to be fast and smart-mouthed." he rolls his eyes, "Let's have a friendly competition, and when I put you in your place, I get to drag you home." he laughed "And give you the answer along the way." he grinned, "And if you cheat and win, I'll let you pass through the backlands as you like. But only to pass through."

Fuli looked Makucha in the eyes, locking her gaze with his. "I wasn't planning on it, but I can never resist a good competition. Especially when I get to show up a cocky leopard that needs to be put in his place." The cheetah sat down, and her tail flicked back and forth anxiously. This was turning into quite the adventure.

He returned her gaze with his own, "You're the one getting put in her place. he said, "I have the home advantage, so you can pick the first challenge, let me guess, a race? he asked. "Seems that pride and speed are all you are about. he said, noting that to exploit later.

Fuli nodded. "You know me so well, mister big scary teeth guy. From here to..." She looked out onto the plains, looking for a decent race track. "That tree, right there," she said, spotting an acacia tree off in the distance, about two hundred meters away. A short jog, for her at least. She jumped to her feet and into a ready position. It was time to prove once and for all that cheetahs were better than leopards. Or at least, she was better than leopards.
