Nala watched as the herd of gazelles leapt off across the plains. A few extra young to adults...possibly a few were doing double duty and raising some of the parent-less young. It wasn't how close this hit to her own situation that made Nala pass up pursuing the herd, it was the Circle of Life and not over-hunting. She would maintain none of the pride had killed perhaps too many of the parents to give such extra burden to the herd.
Hyenas? Zira's pride? Perhaps some of the humans who had arrived?
As queen, and leader of the hunting parties, she should keep an eye out and see if she could tell. Both would require some sort of action from the pride and royal family.
An extra gazelle would have helped the pride, but they also were doing alright and not hurting, hence Nala's trip being more of a scout than hunt. Still, when she saw something move in the grass, she wondered. It was poor sport to pounce something without knowing what it was, but...well even a queen could indulge that playful nature a time or two...
She crouched and pounced. Almost like history repeating itself from shortly after she found Simba again, Nala saw that she had the poor fortune to possibly startle the life out of Timon! She instantly back-peddled. "Oh Timon, I'm sorry, I thought...well...are you alright?".
It seemed the only thing she could think to ask.
Nala was aware she didn't get on the best with Simba's two friends. She had nothing against them (now...since the whole issue of them being the reason Simba had been lead astray to begin with was dealt with, and yes they also raised him...) she just didn't understand them still.

Timon swore to god, he could not and would not get a moments peace.
He’d been minding his own business when Nala showed up. Though he probably should have seen it coming avoiding Pride Rock and all. Now that they had that monkey hanging around he wanted nothing to do with it. And if Simba wanted to see him he could come back home.
So of course, he had shrieked like a banshee when he’d been pounced.
Even after Nala had let go he was still shrieking. Well, until he realized she was off. “Oh no! I’m fine... I’m fine. Just flashbacks lots and lots of flashbacks,” he breathed out. Trying not to wheeze too loud. “ I mean it could be worse I could be getting shot at again I guess, whatever that means.”
He stood to brush himself off and tried to breathe. “We really got to stop meeting like this.”

Timon...talked a lot, especially when his heart rate was coming back down to normal, perhaps. It was a quirk of his and Nala was getting used to it. Even with her time around Sam, she didn't know that 'shot at' meant either, not fully. It was a hunting technique or...something of the like.
"Right...", she answered, a bit unsure just with Timon's type of humor, and feeling the awkward. She sat back, giving ample distance to allow Timon time to calm down. Of course her absence could help with that further.
"Well...um, good day, Timon", she nodded and prepared to leave, much like she always did and unless Simba was there to draw out an interaction even by being the common thread of relationship. Yet, because she always did such, she paused and turned back.
"If...you're still avoiding Pride Rock because of Sam...", Nala was careful with her words, partly because she had still never received full reassurances she wasn't also part of the problem, and Timon still just coming to terms with Simba being king now as well. "I assure you he's...not dangerous".

Timon finally let his heart rate go down.
Honestly Nala probably wasn’t that bad. And for all intents and purposes, he did have to get along with her being his daughter in law. Clearing his throat after a moment he did a pfffttt. “Right good morning,” he replied. “Don’t mind me. Pumbaa’s been in a real mood too. I’m always tense when the big mook isn’t with me, y’know?”
Not dangerous!? Ha! That was rich! Richer than rich actually! She wasn’t the one that wanted to eat him. “It’s not the cub I’m worried about, it’s the adults! Y’know no animal leaves their Cubs out there. And the big ones scare me!” He corrected. Of course, he also didn’t know much about their Cubs - so Sam did scare him but not as much as he would if he hadn’t raised a lion. “We don’t even know why they’re really here! This whole lost “city” thing sounds like a load of hooey to me! We’ve been up and down these Pridelands and I’ve never seen a single thing like he’s supposedly yammering on about.”
Crossing his arms a bit he did mention. “Apparently he even went looking in my neck of the woods last week. But I ain’t seen nothing out there besides that mongrel with the gun thingy,” he said as if anyone but him knew what he was going on about.

Timon blamed his jumpy mood on Pumbaa not being around. Nala was sure also being a small prey item of his size didn't help, but she gracefully didn't say so. She couldn't really relate with Timon's plight in the Circle of Life and it wouldn't do to pretend she could.
It was more than just that though, as his comment on humans proved, and not that he didn't have a point, to a point. "Well, there was the crash and...", and Nala didn't want to doubt the story of the boy who was for all intents and purposes now her son. One she'd looked out for even before that. Then again, Timon could be known to...rant. As he now did.
Nala actually still didn't know him enough to know she didn't have to listen to his crazy theories, the same way Simba no doubt did and would have told her.
"Well...I'm sure answers will turn up", Nala remained on the non-committal route. A good stance for a queen, and especially when you didn't know the answers to a particular problem. It didn't do to be proven wrong where you could help it, though honesty before a kingdom was also needed.
"Mongrel with a...gun?", she asked. Even knowing what he was talking about, for the most part, Timon was hard to understand at times!

Timon had started with the next part of his rant.
When Nala mentioned the crash. His face fell a little as if in realization of that giant crash in his neck of the woods. He’d heard from a dozen animals it hadn’t been one of the birds, but they’d found a weird body and something putting it in a hole....
Timon may have been scared by these humans. But he was also the one who’d picked Simba up as a cub. He had a heart. “Aw jeez, I shoulda known. A bunch of animals were talking around the watering hole. About some weird monkey and a body,” Timon managed. “Took both of em? I assume these things got a ma and dad.”
Of course his next question was. “What are you guys gonna do about that? Can’t have some random cub running around... Not without knowing what’s what.”
Timon’s somber mood was put back into overdrive as Nala caught on to his mongrel with a gun comment. “Yeah! Way bigger than the cub. Like a good six... Maybe seven feet tall, a giant!” He explained rather haughtily. “Chased me about a hundred yards firing this big stick he called a gun. It was weird! I figured it had to be related to the little one or something! I’m so confused!”

As Timon's train of thought changed, so to did his expression, in a very telling way. He hadn't connected the 'crash' as she had picked up the word from Sam, and the boy being with them; but then he hadn't been around the boy. "Yes it...seems so", Nala answered simply in terms of Sam's parents. Well, he mentioned a mom as being lost, his father apparently hadn't been around, and the way he spoke of it, that was unusual for humans.
Nala looked a surprised as Timon asked what they were doing about Sam. She supposed he meant herself and Simba. "We...are still working that out", she answered in information that was safe to give. She had a feeling it would (or had?) come to taking the boy in, but didn't want to say such until it was official. A big part of her duties as queen were to give information to their subjects at the same time as Simba and always as a united front.
It did sound like Timon had seen another one of the humans, and...whether they were the friendly sort towards Sam or not...Nala felt she had to follow this clue up. Even if it turned out Timon was just ranting...
She had to take that chance.
And was aware what she was probably going to get with Timon as her guide.
"Timon...where exactly was this? Could you...take me to where you saw the human?".

Timon nodded his head a little.
As he rubbed the back of his neck, he did definitely felt like he really had maybe jumped down the kids throat too easily so-to-speak. Timon sighed a little, nodding again. "Well, I can see why the furball let him stay at Pride Rock then. I remember another lost little cub that lost his dad," Timon wasn't usually sentimental at all. But he never forgot the day that he found Simba - that was for sure. "Though it's a little crazier with one we don't know squat about."
Still working that out? Timon raised an eyebrow and tilted his head. The way Nala said that, well, he just kind of read between the lines. "Simba wants to keep him, eh?" He asked. Rather honest about it. "Don't freak out - I'll keep it to myself. But if I know the kid, I wasn't the only one reminded. He's always had a heart as big as his mane. I just hope he ain't in over his head."
When she asked to show her where he found the human. He felt his stomach drop. How did he know she was going to ask that? Honestly, the last thing he needed was the heart attack. "I uh... I mean, I guess. I don't like it and I'm staying right behind you!" He made it clear. "But I'll take ya if I have to."

Timon was more perceptive than he let on. Of course a part of Nala understood that, if he didn't act too smart people wouldn't ask him to do anything and he could live that Hakuna Matata lifestyle of his. She had said not a word about Simba perhaps keeping the boy, but she hadn't had to.
"Something like that", she admitted just far enough with a small smile.
"Thank-you Timon", she added as the meerkat said he would keep it to himself, as she had been about to ask. "It...will take more of finding out about Sam's kind yes", she admitted, and another reason to follow up this perhaps wild trail of Timon's.
Nala was honestly surprised Timon agreed to take her; surprised by grateful. "Thank-you again. Don't worry, I don't plan to get close to them, if they are there, I just want to see the spot, for what it's worth". And it could be worth nothing.

Yep, Timon still knew his kid.
Though the meerkat didn’t know what he thought of having a giant as a grandkid. But a part of him did feel a swelling Pride that his adopted kid was honoring his and Pumbaa’s choice in a way by adopting too. “Well, you two are pretty good parents, so I don’t doubt you can do it,” he admitted with a grin. “But I mean - raising other species ain’t that bad. Between Simba and Bunga I’ve become a pro y’might say.”
As an afterthought he also added. “Hey! Maybe third times even the charm and Pumbaa and I will make it to this presentation on time.”
Timon nodded his head a little - he guessed that made sense. Especially if they wanted the best way to approach these humans. Since they didn’t get the easy way out with them like Sam where they came to them. “Good, because I don’t want to die today,” Timon chuckled as he started to lead the way. “I mean I’ve seen a few of them scouring my area for a while now... Didn’t even know ya were looking.”

Nala gave a small smile as Timon included her in the title of Good Parents. She and Simba certainly tried in terms of Kiara and Kion, and any hesitation she might feel still wouldn't get in the way of being their for Sam now as well. She supposed that was all that was required.
"Thank-you, Timon", she said, "And yes, I've no doubt Simba will come to you both with any questions he may have, and if not him...I will be sure to as well". Though, probably not surprisingly, Simba would be more inclined to do such, being far more familiar with the two.
It was apparent that both Timon and Pumbaa never meant to miss the presentations, it just kept happening.
"Well, if there were obvious signs in the Pride Lands I...just figured I should check on them"

Timon nodded along as she commented.
He had no doubt they’d have questions eventually. Since as he’d tell Simba a few days later adopted kids had thoughts, feelings, and memories far more complex than if Sam had been a baby. “Don’t mention it. And I’ll be happy to help,” he explained. “Adopting my kids was the most rewarding thing I did with my life, y’know? It’s tougher than having your own sometimes but Simba has made me proud. And Bunga’s just a blast.”
As for the obvious signs, that Timon had to agree on. Though he was sure that if Sam was this docile not all of them were the gun-rotting heathen that had tried to kill him but they were still adults and for all they knew dangerous. Maybe just seeming a little less so now.
“I just hope we can get them out soon. No offense, but I gotta bad feeling about them being here,” he noted as they trekked closer to where he’d seen the humans. “Like somethin’ ain’t right. They talked about a storm getting em here - at least Sam did according to everyone. And it musta since we saw that crash, and his mom actually died. But there ain’t been a bad storm in a while - not that we could see.”
He shook his head. “I mean I’m no expert - but that sounded like a bad omen to me.” He said as he turned his head. “What if something was trying to strand them here... or keep them out for that matter?”

Simba and Bunga were also vastly different in terms of personality, but Nala didn't know how to say this without it sounding like a criticism of the honey badger, which she didn't intend it to be at all.
Nala gave Timon's back a quizzical look as he said adopting was more rewarding than raising one's own. How would Timon know, he had only tried out one of those options? She just smiled, though. "Oh is it".
The queen sighed as Timon said he just hoped they could get the humans out (excluding Sam no doubt). "I feel that may be a very difficult prospect". Whatever had stranded them here, that odd bird it sounded like, it had ended in disaster very likely to stall them as well.
Even without knowing what the contraption was, Nala figured this would be the case.
"I've come to expect strange weather around the Pride Lands" she went on, and maybe because it meant she didn't have to think too far into Timon's crazy sounding theory, though as queen she would of course never ignore what was obviously going on. It was just hard to filter through with Timon, Pumbaa and even Bunga at times.
Like speaking of forces.
"Like what?", she asked. "Surely the Kings of the Past wouldn't interfere like that". And she hadn't thought Timon put much stock in them.

Timon shrugged.
Sure he didn’t think he’d ever know - but he did have his reasons. Maybe ones that Nala probably didn’t know but honestly he figured he’d just be open about it. He’d been open about it for a while. “I mean I’ll never actually know for sure. Being gay and all,” Timon replied point blank. “I just found helping lost kids find their way rewarding.”
Timon didn’t indeed know what he thought about the ancient kings. It was hard to tell if he believed in them or not at this point. But he’d also considered that it may not be their doing either. “I don’t know. You know that ancient kings thing is kinda weird to me,” he waved it off. “But have you considered this place has been around for centuries supposedly and these are the first humans we’re seeing?”
It didn’t add up. “I don’t know maybe I’m just talking crazy again.” But he probably would have only felt that way more if he knew that Sam had mentioned they populated most of the planet.

Nala wasn't sure what she'd done to open up Timon into Therapy Confess All time, but as queen, one had to listen to their subjects. Timon himself might use the title father-in-law, and she understood where it came from, but she still had trouble thinking of the meerkat as that and, she regretted to inform him, would never actually be using it.
Just because they were sharing, and Timon shared on pairing preference, she didn't have to confess that detail though.
"Well you don't have to swear females off just for it to be admirable, and you're right, blood or not it's the same".
Timon was so odd. He could understand a concept like adoption, readily admit flying metal birds, but the Kings of the Past; that was crazy. "Oh well I would never accuse you of that", Nala answered the last about talking crazy in that level diplomatic way of hers that most besides Simba had a hard time telling if was teasing or not.
