"I... Miss my grandad" Kion spoke up "I never got to meet him, dad's uncle killed him way before I was born. But I heard he was a great king" As Kion spoke, his eyes darted up to the sky, as if looking for something "Maybe as great of a king as dad!" The prince lion spoke with a warm smile, and his attention returned to Sam.
"It is my job!" He said, again proudly puffing up his chest "If I don't send the hyenas back to the Outlands, they will keep bothering the zebras!" Bothering was a euphemism, and that should have been made clear. But Kion was sure Sam understood it "If they had found you before dad did, you would be in big trouble!"
"How do... human even fight?" Kion asked, head tilting to the side curiously "You don't seem to have any... claws?" While he spoke, his front body lowered... and then he pounced the human, trying to push him on his back. It was clear the lion was packing a punch bigger than the size would imply. "Or sharp teeth!" he lowered, face to face with Sam. He was clearly playing, but the human did have a lion on top of him. So close to his face, in fact, he could smell the cub's breath.

Sam made an “oh”.
Of course he hadn’t heard that much about Mufasa yet. A lot of people probably left that part of the story out, especially if he was a great king like he said. “Jeez, what is with adults and overthrowing each other or getting power?” He asked in a bit of disgust. “Scar already sounded like a jerk though.”
Oh god, bothering definitely was horrible - since he knew that they were always a wildcard. He shuddered a little at the thought of what might have happed for that matter. “I’m sure it wouldn’t have been pretty. I saw a couple of freaky things y’know. When I was out there before I made it here,” Sam admitted. “I’m still kind of surprised I managed to make it in one piece - especially if hyenas stalk this place.”
Oot! Sam actually did giggle for the first time when Kion had tackled him. He wasn’t mad or anything - actually it was a fun change from the usual. “Well I mean, we got all kinds of ways of fighting back,” he told him teasingly. “I could show you but I’m pretty sure it’d be treason.” He added jokingly,

"But now you have nothing to worry!" Kion reassured the human once he heard about how much Sam had gone through "You are in the Pridelands now. Here we don't hunt cubs, ever" Amd a toothy grin "It's my job to make sure this is true!" Kion's voice had an energetic tone every time he spoke about his job. It was almost as he wasn't still used to it. And, in fact, he wasn't.
"How?" Kion asked, the cub still playfully growling on top of him. Once the human didn't seem scared by it, he had no way to stop. Perhaps just... using their size? While Sam could likely get tall enough, as an adult, that Kion couldn't really pounce him anymore, he doubted that would be the same with a male lion. "It is not treason!" Kion spoke out of nowhere, cutting the cub's joking tone with his own serious one "We are playing! How are we supposed to learn how to fight if we won't practice?" And he jumped off the human to let him get back up.

True he really didn’t have much to worry about. Sure sleeping outside on his own was tough but other than that most of the animals were the friendly sort - and there was food and water enough to keep him supplied. “That’s why I like it here. It’s kind of a paradise,” he admitted honestly. “Probably a lot like what my world was like before we started building our cities.”
Sam was a little surprised that Kion hadn’t detected sarcasm. Had this kid not been taught to joke around? “Aw I was just messing around, sarcasm y’know! I could totally show you some of the stuff we do with our hands and feet!” Sam replied. “But I wouldn’t want to like bring out my knife on ya. One stab to the right place and you’re good as dead.”
For emphasis, Sam took out said pocketknife. Tossing it at a nearby tree as it hit dead on. Sticking through one end of the trunk and out the other. “See? Humans way of fighting back can get pretty intense.”

Kion was still confused about all of this... building stuff. He would certainly have to see a city with his own eyes to understand just what they meant. "This is a paradise because everyone respects the circle of life. Dad said that, when they didn't, the place became just as bad as the outlands!"
"Sarcasm?" Kion tilted his head to the side "I... I know what it is. Just didn't sound like it" Sarcasm wasn't used a lot in the Pridelands, so he was not well trained on detecting it. "What is a knife?"
And a surprise face took over his golden snout as he saw the thing fly away and hitting the tree. And it was stuck there. Kion ran to it "Is that your teeth? How did you get it out, are you fine?!" He turned tot he human, extremally worried about his well-being!

The circle of life. Right.
Sam felt like he’d had a lot of talks about that with the lions. But he didn’t fully understand all of it - not yet anyway. “I definitely need to learn more about that when I get the chance. As long as I’m stranded here I don’t want to screw up the circle.” He admitted.
Sam shrugged figuring it was better to drop the subject. The last thing he wanted to do was insult the son of the king. “That... Was a knife,” Sam told him when he’d looked at him in shock. “Don’t worry it’s not my teeth. It’s kind of my claws I guess?” He explained as he carefully pulled it from the trunk. “It’s only something I use if I’m in real danger though.”
He then added. “Plus it only makes it a fair fight against lions, bears, and stuff.”

Sam was afraid he was going to screw thing sup with the circle of life! But Kion had a pretty good answer to that "Don't worry! I will take care of you before you can do any harm!" He said, which didn't sound like a tease but just a friendly reminder that he was talking with the leader of the guard!
The lion was still worried when Sam explained what that knife thing was "H-Hmmm..." And he looked down at his own mittens "Can humans just shoot their claws like that?" They were much, much more dangerous than what they first looked like. "I can do this" he said, lifting a paw and exposing his claws, before retracting them "but... I can't shoot them. It still sounds painful" And he shivered.
"And dangerous!" He added with a smile "But it looks you can defend yourself quite well!" And he stepped up. "I think dad made the right choice with letting you in. I have to get ready for night watch... But stay out of trouble, aright?" And Kion rewarded the human with a boy scout smile.

The thought of shooting lion claws admittedly made Sam shudder that would be painful. “I’ll Show you all I can do one of these days, don’t worry. I don’t think I’m going anywhere for a while at least,” though he wasn’t sure exactly what that meant. He could at least hope he’d get the chance anyway. “No worries, Kion. Take it easy - kick some... Rump?” He was pretty sure he knew that was the name of a lion’s behind.
Taking a bite of his fruit he decided to take a seat down and relax. Honestly, he was beginning to like it here.
