The sun beat down harshly on the charred earth beneath Zira's feet as she padded across one of the tall stone precipices that made up the Lion's Den, the tall, imposing structure that sheltered the Outlanders from the harsh conditions of their territory. It was nearly sundown, and the Outlander queen let out a purr of satisfaction as she raised her head to watch the sun slowly fade, choking out violet and rose shades of light as it made its death throes behind the rocky horizon. As twilight crept across the desert sky, she slid back down into the tunnel that led to the heart of the Lion's Den. Zira knew she should rest, but her mind was teeming with questions and uncertainty. These...humans...that had fallen from the sky in their great silver birds and allied with that murdering Simba and his Pridelanders weighed heavy on her brain. All around her, her subjects were lying together in close-knit huddles in the darkness of the cave, sharing the scarce prey that had been gathered that day and talking in hushed voices. Zira knew she'd have to announce to them at some point what she'd learned from her earlier excursion into the Pridelands and rally them for any future attacks. If these humans could build gigantic silver birds that could crash and burn out of nowhere, there was no telling what threat they posed to her own pride now that they were on...Simba's side. Vitriol boiled deep within her as she thought of how he'd reminded her of her exile from her rightful home, the place she'd been born, all because she'd been loyal to Scar. The rightful king.
Zira chose a dark corner of the cave to settle, making sure she could keep a close eye on where her own children were playing together. Her red eyes flickered in the scant lighting, and it was clear there was a lot on her mind.
She was mentally preparing to address her clan.

Njaa had his head low, his eyes darting from side to side. How could a place as terrible as this exist? Not only he was surrounded by lions... But he was surrounded by lion girls. And he was going to talk with their leader, another girl. He kept one thing in his mind, that prevented him from turning away immediately: Lions were ruled by kings, not queens, as far as he knew. She might be fighting the same thing he was. Too made she was doing it in his land. Or at least the land he wished for himself.
But that was not what he came here to talk about, no.
A group of lionesses scouted Njaa and two of his most trustworthy hyenas inside the cave. They were smaller than those lionesses, but they kept their large teeth on show, he wanted them to be sure he was not to be messed with.
They entered the cave and went straight to the dark corner Zira had decided to nestle. Njaa missed whatever the kids were doing, not interested at all. He was here for a purpose, and it wasn't hunting lion cubs. Even if he was hungry.
"Zira" He spoke "Ya're the one leading this clan of lions, right? You and I gotta talk." He put his dark paw forward with a firm face. Njaa had a greenish tone to his fur, that differentiate him a bit from he common grey on most spotted hyenas.

Just as Zira was about to rise and draw attention from her followers, an unfamiliar scent, filthy and laced with the reek of death, wafted into the dark, confined space. Her pride caught on immediately to the three small, lean figures loping into the den. Soft, skeptical growling could suddenly be heard from the shadows, and the dark cave was suddenly aflicker with the hostile lights of the eyes of mistrustful lionesses, all trained on the unfamiliar creatures.
Hyenas.
Zira's heart skipped a beat at the sight of them. It had been a long time since she'd seen one of the wild dogs, seeing as they'd all been either slaughtered or chased off after ravaging Scar's paralyzed body. She could still remember their dirty, dirty scent, the way it had clung to his blood-matted fur as she lay there grieving over his lifeless form.
How she despised them. Just what were they crawling back for?!
Zira rose to her paws swiftly, hissing a quick "Watch the cubs" to one of her more trustworthy subjects, then leaped from rock to rock to land on the lowest level of the cave.
The Outlander queen padded to stand before the trio, her posture staunch and defensive and her head held high with her gaze trained sternly downward as she listened to the leader speak. A snarl curled her lips, and blood pounded in her head.
Calm down, calm down, calm down... Zira thought to herself, swallowing bile as she tried to steady her nerves.
Zira studied the speaker keenly. He had a strange, unique tint to his pelt. He was young, a fair amount younger than the hyena Scar had trusted most. Zira hadn't known Shenzi well, but she knew she had led the hyenas during his rule...and by extension led them in defiling him as he lay in agony after his defeat.
"Is that right?" Zira drawled, her voice laced with disgust. "And just what is it you and I have to discuss, Fido?"

"I suuure hope so, cuz I ain't come here to talk with just another lioness"
He said with a joking tone, but the growl made it more than sure he was not really joking. If this annoying golden cat in front of him was not the lionesses' leader, then Njaa wasted a trip. The hyena boss, while still quite young, had no time to waste with her kind, no! While he starved and fought for dry bones with his kin, the lions enjoyed the bountiful food int he Pridelands. But this one wasn't, and it was clear by her annoying expression.
"Njaa's the name" He stepped forward, imposing himself to the bigger feline "We have to discuss how we're gonna being down Simba once and for all." And his eyes narrowed "He's the one who exiled you here, to my Outlands, was he not?"

Zira snorted at the hyena leader's light comment. How could there possibly be any doubt that she was the one in charge here? The Outlander queen's lip curled slightly. If the death-stench coming from him wasn't bad enough, the little punk wore an insufferably self-satisfied smirk that made her blood boil.
She had to hand it to the kid though, he was confident.
He had to be. It took some nerve to come waltzing right into the Lion's Den after what his predecessors had done to Scar.
She listened as the teen introduced himself. As he proposed the idea of bringing Simba to the ground, she cocked a single eyebrow, a glint of interest sparking in her ruby eyes.
"Indeed he was," Zira growled, her voice suddenly flat and embittered, and her gaze hard as stones. "The little upstart murdered the true king and drove out all who opposed his conquest, forcing us to take up residence in this filthy desert." Her eyes flashed with curiosity. "But what would the hyenas hope to gain from Simba's downfall?"

Njaa's eyes narrowed as he heard the lioness speak about the legitimate king and yada yada. "I heard Scar was quite the star, yeah" be tried to score some points with her "certainly better than this new king, or his insufferable son." But there was a limit to how low a hyena king could go just to please a... ugh, lioness. "Too bad he tried to fool us Hyenas." A pause that was clearly not long enough for her to answer separated the statement from the following question: "Ya won't commit the same mistake, will ya?"
And his aggressive eyes opened in full again, as the hyena grin came back to his grey snout "For starters, I won't have to deal with hat red-head brat anymore." His expression became a bit more serious "And I get you out of my filthy desert." but he was still not done "I am also sure we can agree on a compromise regarding our rai-" and he shut himself up. Focus, Njaa. Diplomacy! "Our little visits to the Pridelands. My clan is starving!"
Njaa already knew what the lioness was after. There was no point in asking. She wanted Simba dead and she wanted her pride back. Or well, that's what he thought she wanted at least. But he had to show he was in control of this conversation, so he had to keep moving it instead of being polite about his questions. "If ya wanna get your pride back, we gotta deal with this lion guard thing. then with the Queen. Then with the King."
