Set after Sam followed Simba/Nala (upcoming thread)
Sam was nervous as hell about being here.
But in the end he was far away from the adult humans who had already threatened to take him away. So there was absolutely that. But he felt… A slight emptiness without David there, as it had always been his dream to see this place for itself in all of its wonder.
He’d brought something of his to leave there. So in a way, his mentor made it too. But it still hurt slightly.
So he’d distracted himself with just admiring the wildlife. And goofing off. Without the fear of getting taken hanging over his head again, he’d taken to amusing some of the cubs at the tree. Telling them stories about where he came from - that seemed to fascinate them as much as the Prideland cubs.
The only part of this was they’d inevitably leave and this was only a temporary distraction.
“So you see, those things you saw fall out of the sky were called airplanes. I fell out of one of you can believe it,” this got a few wide-eyes from a couple of the younger kids. “It’s cool though. No big deal… I think I died for like five minutes but hey, I’m still kicking now!”
He was pretty sure the Prideland cubs were tired of these stories. So getting to hear the excited chatter at least made him feel a bit of satisfaction.

Kion hadn't been sure what to make of Sam when he'd shown up after his mom and dad. Simba claimed he was harmless. And apparently his new brother? Which. Guess Simba was continuing the pattern of adopting a child from another species. Timon and Pumbaa adopted him, he adopted a human. Now either he and Rani needed to adopt or Kiara and Kovu did and the pattern would become tradition!
Right now he was listening to the human's stories alongside the cubs, learning about him through words and what Kion could discern from his body language. Sam didn't have ears to lay flat or twitch atop his head, and he didn't have a tail to flick about casually or lash in anger. How did he balance without a tail? Kion had tried to do that, after Sam had appeared and after making sure nobody was around to see. He lasted all of a few seconds before falling.
The cubs oohed and aah'ed over Sam's stories, and Kion snorted loudly. "Big deal! I've done that too!" he mewed obnoxiously with a toothy grin. He absolutely had not, and he'd own up to it if Sam called him out, but it was telling of somebody how they reacted when they thought they were being made fun of. "You aren't special, little brother."
Second test. How would Sam react to being called little brother?

Sam was a little surprised when Kion spoke up.
Had jumped out of a plane? That much he doubted. Almost died, though? He knew that story - or at least part of it when he’d been told how they got to the Tree of Life in the first place. But on one hand, he could call him out on this, while on the other… He really wanted to impress this guy.
Ever since his adoption, Sam knew he’d have to find his own way into the dynamics. He’d made friends with Kiara, but now it was deeper than that. For the first time in his life he had siblings. Something he’d always secretly wanted but never mentioned because well… He hadn’t even had parents.
Still, hearing himself referred to as “little brother” almost made him blush a bit. It was probably the first time he’d heard it - and he’d felt a little skip of his heart. So, he’d decided why not play along too?
“Oh really? I can imagine you’ve done plenty of crazy stuff with this guard of yours so I’m not surprised,” Sam replied with a cross of his arms. “Did you drop off a giant Eagle or something? I bet it was s sight to see. Probably hurts worse too.”
He then gave a small smirk before adding cheekily. “Not that I claim to be special, just different,” He admitted, sitting down after a moment. “I’m sure my big brother can tell us all about how it’s really done, right?”
