Kabili was pacing.
Was he nervous? Was he NERVOUS? No, not at all, the fact the whole kingdom was coming at the crack of dawn to see him was totally not scary as hell. Ok, maybe he was a little nervous - or a lot nervous he figured. And he had a feeling he was the only one nervous for that matter.
He eyed Rafiki, the shaman seemed pretty calm, or at least did to him. Too calm. Like he’d done this a million times before. And for all Kabili knew he probably had.
He hoped that he was clean enough, having went for such an early dip in the stream to get fully “ready”. But if not, it would just have to do. He figured at least. As he rubbed his hands together and faced the mouth of the cave. “Just take a deep breath Sam,” he muttered to himself. Using his human name but honestly - he was too nervous to care. “It’s just a little presentation. You’ll go out, show up and it’ll be over.”
”Ah I see the young prince-to-be is nervous,” Rafiki announced, making the teen jump out of his skin. Had he been eavesdropping. ”Rafiki promises it is only about eighty percent as scary as it sounds.”
A sweat drop flowed down Kabili’s forehead. This was not helping at all.

Nala's duty, at the presentation of her cubs, had been to make sure they were ready and presentable and bring them to Rafiki, Simba by her side. Both times. Yet Kabili was different, not only because he was older than Kion and Kiara currently were, but only bit a bit if she could judge human ages.
He was already his own person, able to take care of both, and yet the underlying duty was calming her cubs also; something she could and would still do for Kabili.
"Oh Rafiki", she chuckled, "I don't think you're helping".
The mandrill just gave her a smile and bow. "Well, will be like last time and you and Simba just come when all is ready. Now I shall go make sure both the Kings of the Past and the Pride Lands are prepared!" the shaman exited. Nala smiled over at Kabili and nuzzled him.
"Don't be nervous, son, it'll all be fine and you won't have to say anything...or...I don't think. It's never come up" she smiled but hoped to do Rafiki's calming job a bit better than the mandrill had.

Simba hrmed as he passed by Rafiki. "Oh dear no, Nala..." he shook his head, "Our boy is terrified enough getting out there. I do the talking, even when I'm not the mane event." he said, comfortingly. "Maybe you can make a speech on Kupatana." he said, moving in to nuzzle Kabili's side. "You will see there is nothing to fear from my kingdom."
Simba pulled away after a while, and looked around, trying not to dwell too long on any one thing, just trying to look important and well, like a king normally should look while his son is waiting to be presented.

Honestly, who’d known that getting nuzzled by two grown lions would make him feel better.
To be honest, Kabili was excited - that much he couldn’t deny. It was just a nerve-wracking thing to be the center of attention for once. “I’ll be ok. I’m excited; really,” he explained honestly as he stretched a little. Resting his forehead on both of theirs individually so they understood he was fine. Something he’d learned being ther “I mean I’m like what a couple of minutes from being your son for real, I’m really happy.”
That part was genuine, beyond genuine. It felt right that he was there right now - it just also meant taking another one of those leaps of faith. “I mean heck, if Kiara and Kion were brave enough as Cubs who didn’t even know what was going on,” he admitted. “I can be brave now.”
After a moment, he cleared his throat. “I mean if you do want me to say something dad, I can probably figure it out.” It was obvious he definitely wanted to make them happy. After all nerves were a thing. But this was his day, and a happy one at that.

And the lion cub added to what his father said "Yes! Nothing to fear while Im still here!"
Kion kept a proud face, but it was the cute boy scout smile that really showed up, above his nobility or even his... well, actually, if one was to pay enough attention to his eyes they might notice the excitement Kion had. He was really looking forward to this moment, so much he was sounding more... cheery than his stoic usual attitude. He had never been to a presentation like that. That is a lie, he had. But he could not remember it.
"Mom's right, bro! It will be alright. I could do it, so you should be brave!" The red maned lion nuzzled Nala's front left leg on his way to the human, and then promptly went on his hind feet, placing his paws on the other's hips and thighs to better match his height.
And of course he couldn't pass the chance to poke his sister. "Even Kiara did it well. So there's no way you can ruin it!"

Zuri was looking her best as she came upon the royal family... plus the new one, however her tone was more on the sour side. She bowed to Kabili at least, before she spoke "Please don't say anything. Just smile and let the king do the talking, 'kay?". She said with a scoff. She would have loved to say more, but she was smarter than that. She moved on, bowing before Simba and Nala together, "It's awkward for all of us, don't you worry..." she bemoaned, and looked to Kion. Her bow was shortest to him, but... at least she was doing it. "Were you at your older sister's presentation?" she asked, obviously he hadn't.

The hornbill followed the lioness, and watched her behavior closely. He clearly had concerns about something going wrong, but the lioness cub was careful to show at least the minimum respect as she spoke her mind. "You have a long way to go before you are truly an advisor..." he commented, "All of you have done fine at your presentations, Kabili will be no exception." Zazu declared, "Kion, do you plan to say anything, as leader of the Lion Guard...? Speaking of, where is the Lion Guard?" he looked around.

Nala would not say she judged her daughter's friends, and in fact she saw Tifu and Zuri's good points where others perhaps did not, still she knew they needed reigned in a bit at times, or Zuri especially. "Zuri, good to see you show up in honor of Kiara and our family", her tone was light but there was an underlying Remember You're Behaving, more subtle than Zazu's blatant critique and as she still gave the young lioness a warm smile.

Kion's head tilted to the side as Zuri asked him about Kiara's presentation. "She is... my older sister. I wasn't here when that happened. I have only been to my own, that's why I'm looking forward to see S-" And he quickly corrected himself "Kubili's!" Zuri certainly... lacked a bit of common sense, an important skill for any advisor.
but Zazu had to ask about the Guard's job in the speech thing. "I-I hmm..." He looked down, kneading his right paw on the cave's floor "I could say a couple of things if it's a tradition for the guard to... say them." He then gulped down as Zazu poked him right in his duty "I-I am still putting the guard together, Zazu. I want to make sure only the best are in. But we... Don't have a lot of lions for the Lion Guard..."

Simba shook his head, but tried his best to hide his... not quite disappointment. He had told Nala he thought Kion wasn't ready. Still it wasn't a good thing to hear. He still smiled as he looked at his son, "Zazu..." he said in a scolding tone, "Kion, I believe in you." he said, simply. "As my son, guard or no guard, I would love to have you speak." he smiled. ""To welcome your new brother into the pride." he nodded as he spoke.
"As for the lions... Zuri?" he asked, with a pause long enough to imply her for the guard. "Do you know anyone who would be a good fit?" he asked. "Does everyone know where they are supposed to stand? Anything you need to do before we start? Fix your mane, go behind a tree..." he asked like a father. "Once you are ready take your positions." he said, following any answer he would head to the spot of honor, just behind where Rafiki would be standing when he was ready.

He guessed that Kion had a point.
Though it did make him chuckle a bit even if he doubted Kiara found to too funny. The two were fun to listen to banter to anyway; though he still had his own nerves about joining in. They still had to get used to each other after all. “I guess you’re right. But I’m sure you two are a tough act to follow,” he replied finally. “But yeah two going up there without a faceplant definitely helps.”
He did try to hide his grimace when Zuri entered. As usual, she was herself and he had hardly been her biggest fan since joining the Pride. “I mean, you do realize if she was older he wasn’t born yet, right? That’s literally impossible.” He did notice his nerves about making a speech, and how Kion mentioned still getting the guard together. “Don’t worry, I’m sure Kion is going to put together an awesome guard. Have you seen how serious he takes his duty? He’s a natural.” He said with a wink his way.
Oh shit! They were starting? Kabili sucked in a breath. If he was going to run away screaming he told himself this was definitely the time to do it. Taking a deep breath, he shook the last of his nerves. He could do this, he *could* do this. Taking a step closer to Nala to get where he was supposed to be he took another moment to take in his last moments as a “human”.
“I can’t believe it’s actually here.” He whispered to her nervously.
