Kabili blushed hard.
Honestly the fact he had to admit to what he was doing out here was embarrassing but he couldn’t tell the story without it. Rubbing the back of his neck he chuckled. “I uh... I was kinda out here practicing,” he managed in between his nervous laughter. “You know... For the presentation when no one was looking.” He added.
Clearing his throat, he got a little less nervous. “But uh... That’s not the point. I got interrupted. By a leopard who called himself Makucha,” he held up his hands and was sure to add. “I know you and Kion had mentioned to stay away from him. But he had a... Interesting proposition. One that I think we... Or at least, I, should take. But I’m not going to do it if I don’t have your permission.”

Simba smiled, and could tell how embarrassed Kabili was... and certainly wanted to be encouraging. Anyone else might have laughed, and... he wanted to, being in the spotlight and presenting yourself came naturally, even to the less extroverted around here. "You'll do great, but... maybe try to do it during the day. You know we have bedtime for a reason, and you should be around bright and early with the rest of us...
Simba frowned though at the leopard, and then looked worried at the name. "Makucha...? he asked. "He's not been trouble before, as long as we leave him alone... A proposition? You talked to him? What's he offering you?! he would be yelling if it wasn't night and he didn't want to wake the lionesses.

Maybe during the day? Honestly, he felt like he wanted to die enough as is. But a bunch of people staring at him? Yeah, that was the worst possible way to handle this. At least in his opinion. “I know, I know. I just figured hey, if I stayed near Pride Rock what’s the worst that could happen?” He asked honestly. “Plus I was uhhhg kinda looking to um... Y’know. Least talking to ‘em.” He motioned up at the stars for emphasis.
Well that escalated quickly. Shifting on his feet a little, he chewed his lip. “Don’t worry I had my knife on me. Wasn’t like I was unarmed,” he explained. “He gave me permission to go into the Backlands. And I know what you’re gonna say “it’s a trap” or whatever. But I think we should take it...”
He paused a moment as he put his hands on his hips. “I mean I know it’s probably not a great idea. But if I can get back there. I can search for the others,” he then pointed out. “Or look into my theory... That I’ve been working on about this place.”
He knew he’d have to tell Simba the latter eventually. Now was as good a time as any.

Simba sighed, "I had hoped encountering him would not happen." he replied, "That doesn't mean you won't be hurt. Fighting is always a last resort. Especially at your age." he said.
"Makucha is not a real leader, he has no authority to allow you in or keep you out... but he seems to think otherwise. I don't want you out there." he said, though that was not quite the end of it. "I don't know what he wants with you, I would hate to lose my son... but at the same time... It may be the only way to get in there without him knowing you are looking for something." he frowned. "If you go, you need protection from his friends, it could be an ambush." he didn't want to express doubt in Kabili taking down one leopard.
"And you will go during the day, where help can be sent, and watch can be kept..." he sighed, "Sadly the backlands are defined as being beyond the sight of Pride Rock, whoever is watching would need to be a bird or find a high rock near the edge..." he stated. "We will discuss it if ever you decide to set out..." he hummed. "We'll figure out who we will have keeping watch." There was more than one bird up to the task, "And who will accompany you for protection, I have a few ideas there, too..." he sighed. "Tell me of your theory, it clearly means a lot to you."

Kabili listened closely.
Honestly, Simba cleared several things up for him. More importantly he made it clear to him that his safety was first and paramount - something he had to get used to. He’d had a lot of free reign both in New York and when he’d originally come here. Now he was part of an important family and he guessed that meant that he definitely needed to be more careful.
“Right, I understand. I guess I didn’t think of it that way. I mean, that someone would want to ambush or use me like that,” Kabili admitted rather honestly, almost bowing but realized he really needed to stop that and did. “I promise if and when I go it’ll be on your terms. That’s why I wanted to go to you. I know better than to just... Go without knowing what I’m in for.”
When he asked about his theory, Kabili took a few steps forward staring out at the kingdom. “I’ve watched this place for a while now. First as a commoner, now as a... Royal,” he explained honestly. “I mean - that place I told you about, Zion. It’s supposed to hold some power. I don’t know what it is exactly. But I do know where I come from. We don’t have the kind of magic you do here.”
He then explained. “I think... I think it’s possible Zion could be here dad. And if it is. I want to find it,” he explained. “My mom died looking for this place. And if it’s somewhere in the Pridelands. Or somewhere on this Savannah. I have the chance to finish what she started.... I want to take it.”

Simba sighed, "When you became a part of the family, it did create certain risks and responsibilities." he reminded, or perhaps informed him for the first time, though he hoped he had warned him of this.
"Right, you are smart to do that... he responded. "Don't be afraid of him. Just take proper precuations." he reminded.
"Zion." he said, "It's a big place, who knows where it is, how to get to it... the entire savannah is huge, if it's not in the pridelands I'm afraid... there's very little hope." he said, looking out to the outlands, "We can't exterminate the Outlands." he said, "...because that would be horrible and wrong, not because we don't have the ability to. "And if it's in the backlands, the leopards stand in our way. Not Makucha but any leopard would tear into us if we took their territory... and the way things sound about Makucha, if we even think about it they will raise the flag of war." he gulped. "We can only hope it is here in the Pridelands... or face an unwinnable war."

Kabili gave a small nod.
He should have known all of the things about how dangerous it might be sometimes as a member of the royal family but he didn’t care. He was loyal to Simba from the moment he’d taken him to this sanctuary and saved his life. So that wouldn’t waver, and couldn’t. “I understand,” he replied. “I’ll be more careful next time.”
He paused at what Simba had to say about Zion though. He hasn’t thought about it that way - how things were on a teetering balance and that meant they had to approach it with great caution. “I don’t want war of any kind, dad. Or for anyone to get hurt, I hope you know that,” he replied. “I’ll be sure to be careful and not step out of line with the Backlands. If that means I can’t find it I get it. I just... I don’t know. I guess I have some hope.”
He paused a little, stifling a yawn. “A part of me just says we didn’t end up here on accident. The first humans ever?” He asked. “There has to be a reason.”

Simba sighed heavily, "We are just lucky he is... the kind to plot against us rather than just attack." he looked at Kabili, gauging him, and he awoke the more they talked. "We don't want it, but..." he sighed, "You're right." he looked over the lands, and into the distance. "We will never find it if we have to... dig everywhere. There has to be a sign." he groaned, "Unless there's some hidden cave that no animal has been in, it has to be somewhere out there."
He growled at the thought. "Our only option, may still lead to war. We search everywhere we can, and if we find a sign... we can then deal with whoever claimed it." He said.
A certain hornbill came into the scene, "This is not the time or place to talk of war, Sire..." the bird scolded, "But war may be the answer." He said, quite cynically. "Under the cover of at least preparing for war, no one would know we are looking for anything."
Simba growled at the bird, "Zazu, that is not the way we can do things. We can't use the cover of war to find Zion... We can't be the ones that strike first."
Zazu shook his head, "Sire, this is a dire time, and I said preparing for war. Purely defensive, even if it means scouting out their territory, we can pull it off, perhaps without even being seen for a while, we tell them we found nothing. Or that the location was not suitable."
Simba was most visibly displeased.

Kabili nodded listening to what the wise king had to say.
Sometimes he carried himself in such a way that he could never understand. Which honestly, just amazed him. He couldn’t have been on earth as long as him yet he spoke with the wisdom of a king who lived a thousand lifetimes. “That’s fair,” he explained honestly. “I mean it’s just a theory anyway. Maybe wishful thinking. I wasn’t sure it even exited until I crashed into a kingdom of talking lions.”
The young teen paused and turned as Zazu spoke up. Honestly, he was sure that Zazu had a point. If not one that might be better discussed outside his company. He didn’t want to push Simba especially in matters he was only mildly educated in. “I agree with whatever my dad says,” he explained calmly. “After all, we need evidence that it’s here too, right?” He asked as he looked down at Zazu expectedly.
He then added with a soft smile. “Plus he’s got enough to think about with this whole presentation thing,” he added with a small yawn and a stretch. “I can’t be the only one stressing a little.” He joked.
Zion could wait for a time when there wasn’t much cause for celebration. Though with one eye he eyed the top of Pride Rock, hoping at least that he could get a few more tries in. Eh?

Simba glared at Zazu, "Yes. One thing at a time, before we do anything rash." he commented, clearly almost-mad with Zazu. "With Zion... we will do nothing until we find some kind of sign it is even in the Pridelands, Backlands, or Outlands... if we do..." he sighed, "I'll talk to Kion about your plan Zazu. Until then no more plans."
Zazu gulped, "Yes sire..."
Simba looked at Kabili. "Yes, the presentation." he sighed, "No more staying up past curfew after tonight, but as the three of us are all awake..." he looked to Zazu a moment. "Continue as you were. Zazu and I will be going for a... walk."
Zazu took flight, clearly nervous, as Simba walked off with him. "Don't be up too much longer, son."
