Kabili was nervous as hell.
It was only a few days until this presentation thing and while he knew what to expect... He also didn’t. Most of the time, royalty was presented at birth - before they could even comprehend what was happening. But he was fourteen, about to be fifteen in three months. And he’d comprehend and remember every second of it.
So he’d gotten up in the middle of the night tonight. Stepping over both his adoptive parents sleeping forms, and his siblings and decided to practice.
He didn’t know how human royalty actually carried themselves in real life. But he remembered a movie once and how tall and proud they looked. So... As silly as he probably looked he’d spent the better part of half an hour puffing out his chest and trying to learn to walk up Pride Rock with confidence and swagger.
Honesty; he was glad no one was awake. Because he was pretty sure he looked stupid.
After the sixtieth try he sat himself down in annoyance. Honestly, he didn’t know why he was so nervous. He was already part of the family - nothing was changing it. But the desire to look good and make Simba and Nala proud burned hot within him he guessed.
“I don’t know, what do you guys think?” He asked the stars jokingly, if they were actually great kings of the past. “Do I get through this without falling on my face?”

While Makucha wasn't bold or crazy enough to climb Pride Rock, he did catch someone moving around up there. "The pridelanders keep coming into my territory, gives me plenty of reason to be passing through theirs." he told himself, though he would like if someone heard him.
He moved around, easily spotted, he raised a brow as he seemed to be talking to someone. "Who is he talking to?" he asked... then he figured he may as well ask once he was noticed. In the meantime, he would watch, and search around for a way to draw attention or an alibi for being here...

Kabili heard the voice rather quickly.
Now, while on one hand he could have gotten Simba... Well, he also knew on the other he wasn’t the scared little kid that he was when Zira had come around. If anything, he’d grown in confidence and knew point blank not to always be nervous.
For a moment, he thought to go grab his spear. But on the other, he didn’t want to disturb the king or queen. After all, they were very firm about the bedtimes of their Cubs, and he might get into trouble if he did wake them up. Instead he turned so he could face the leopard.
“What brings someone out to Pride Rock this late?” He asked trying to seem authoritative in his tone. Though it may have been a bit shaky. “My dad has gone to bed for the night. So if you’re looking for the king you’ll have better luck tomorrow.”

Makucha chuckled slowly, "Nah. I came to check things out. Let the king rest." He grinned smugly. "Name's Makucha. I told you what I'm doing but what about you, monkey?" he asked. "A lot of strange things going on... and I wonder how you play into it.

Check things out?
Kabili stood tall and tried not to look nervous. But only seemed tinged with annoyance when the leopard called him a monkey. He was definitely no monkey, especially not now as he learned the ways of the lion. “Not a monkey. I’m a human,” he stated calmly. “More importantly, my name is Kabili. Like I said, I am the son of King Simba. So, this is my home.”
He tried to sound like Kion there. He always said to so firm and tough, using it as a way to make it clear to enemies that doing anything would have repercussions. Not that this, Makucha, seemed like an enemy yet. But he did give off a certain air to him that the human didn’t like.
“Seems stranger that you’d be out here,” he pointed out on his next statement. “I don’t see a lot of leopards around here. Have to say,” he pointed out honestly. “... You’re only the second, after the one who got me here.”

Makucha smiled, was he being friendly? Not at all. He hadn't even asked but learned most of what he came here to learn. He would go with it, "Another son of the king... great." he groaned, "Well your... brother and his friends sure like to get into my business." he said, "Just let him know that if it keeps happening, well... I might repay their kindness." he said sarcastically. "I don't like trespassers, or having my meals interrupted." he claimed.
"Oh really?" he knew a leopard had been involved, and assumed the boy had been in bad shape with what little the leopards knew about him.

Oh it was that leopard. Reaching for his built in pocket, and his knife he kept his eyes firmly trained on Makucha. Before, he might have been afraid of someone like Makucha. But he wasn’t now, he’d had experience not fighting big cats, but sparring with them - mostly Simba. So he was not afraid at all of a confrontation as he should have been.
“If my brother gets into your business there is a reason for it. And it doesn’t sound to me like you’re welcome in this land,” Kabili replied very firmly. Narrowing his eyes. “I’m not looking for a fight. But I’m not afraid of one either.”
He didn’t go further into details on Akachi. Not wanting to get him involved, or in trouble. After all, he owed the leopard.

He was perplexed, clearly his name had gotten around for him to change his attitude. He didn't seem threatened, but he made sure to not appear deliberately threatening. "Same here. I didn't come to start a fight, just to pass on that I don't appreciate pridelanders coming through my territory when you guys keep a tight guard. The other leopards may not mind, but I do." he said sternly.
He hrmed, "And don't worry about the leopard, I'll let him know how you are doing. Quite well, by the look of it, Prince Kabili."

Kabili kept his eye trained on Makucha. On one hand he didn’t want to start a fight that not only might wake up Simba or Nala. But would possibly start something he couldn’t naturally finish. Simba had of course taught him to only pick fights when he felt it was the only possible option.
It frustrated him - because if this was a threat. He could end it right there. Yet it was the human side of him talking. The more violent nature. “Kion only interferes when someone is overstepping their boundaries,” he said very firmly and professionally as he let go of his grip on the knife and crossed his arms. “So watch where you step and I don’t think there will be a problem.”
He paused as he mentioned that and used the title. “He won’t be in trouble, will he? He was just helping me. I was lost and wounded... He shouldn’t be punished for that.”

Makucha seemed to pick up on Kabili's conflict. He rolled his eyes at the response, "Just don't be surprised if I don't have patience if that proves incorrect." he said, he too didn't want a fight, and he'd need evidence to change their mind... but that he brought up the issue would help him against Kion later. He made his attempt and could be more aggressive next time. "I don't want a problem." he confirmed, or claimed.
Makucha started laughing, and it wasn't the sinister laugh that Kabili may have been expecting. "Haha... haha!" he rubbed his eye with his paw. "Good one! I'm not a savage outlander! Haha." he smiled, "We leopards are all friends! That's why we live together." he smirked, "In fact I've got a reward in mind, Prince Kabili... and it should keep Kion out too." he said, "You are welcome in the Backlands, I won't cause you any trouble." he smirked, "You, or anyone you are with."

Kabili tilted his head a little.
That was an interesting proposition. And most would have leapt at the chance, including him. Mostly because he’d always wondered what the other borders looked like. But also because he knew that the Backlands was one of the places he nor the other lions had been able to search for the humans.
“I... May take you up on that offer,” Kabili replied honestly. Keeping his calm. Even if this animal was an enemy - he knew he would need to keep up the charade he fully trusted him in order to get what he needed. “For now, I think I need to go back to bed. Before my parents notice I’m missing.”
As he started for the cave mouth, he turned to say one more thing. “Let him know though, that I owe him. And he can call in the favor any time.” He explained honestly. A promise from him rather than the king.
When he’d disappeared into the mouth of the cave he went down onto all fours. Something he’d taken to doing when up late at night. It made it easier both to maneuver and keep from being blatantly heard. Until he’d made his way back to the “royal huddle” in order to gently shake Simba’s side. “Dad?” He whispered quietly. “Dad can we talk?”
Right now, he didn’t mind if he got in overt trouble. Not when this was possibly a major deal.

Makucha made his leave, satisfied with learning about the human, and making the offer would attract him to the backlands to talk further... and even gain his trust or aid. He had merely talked, but it did lead to brighter things coming up... far from a failure indeed.

Simba groaned as he was stirred awake, Kabili... can't it... ugh, wait? he asked, looking at him. "What are you doing up so late...? he asked. He was tired, a long day, a lot to do tomororow, but he had made clear he always had time for his kids if he was needed. He just wanted to know, well, if he was needed.

Kabili shook his head.
Could it wait? Yes. But it also couldn’t because he knew Simba would want to know about the visitor. After all, Makucha was not exactly a friend of the family or anything, and this was a bigger deal than he had wanted it to be. “I know... Tomorrow’s the day before and all,” he murmured. “But you’ll be mad if I don’t tell you. Meet me outside.”
He said as he backed away and started his way back to the outside of cave. Pride Rock was empty again, so thankfully he wouldn’t be doing this with the leopard there. No doubt Simba would be more annoyed than he already was going to be. But he also realized he had in his haste forgot to put the objects back in his backpack which indicated he’d been up for a while.
Damn. he groaned.

Simba got up, "...Alright, son." he said, he was concerned now, and nervous, but he was very happy that Kabili had come to him like he had, no matter what he wanted to talk about. Simba took a look around, Yes? he looked around, and noticed the items... "What have you been up to?" he asked, but then followed with. "...Er, so what is it you need to talk about?" he cared far more about that then him being up late, really, but his dad side would deal with that.
