Was that a good thing the the believed him? Depends on how you look at it.
All the same, Sam followed Liki closely and tried to think if he had actually ever gone into a cave before. He knew there were probably plenty in New York State but his mom was pretty protective as many times he’d established so had he ever gone in? Not the the remembered. “Plenty, but my mom didn’t let me go a lot,” he admitted. “But it’s ok! How hard can it be?”
Oh wow! Cool! His eyes lit up as he looked around at the cavern. Eager to get started. “There aren’t any bears in there or anything right?” He thought to ask. Not even sure there were bears in Africa but still.

"I've never been in Nandembo Caverns", Liki admitted, and since they were admitting stuff, even though he had asked Sam about any caverns he'd been in specifically. He therefore implied he'd been in some caverns, and whether or not Sam picked up on this and wondered about it, he answered, "Only a few that didn't go too far back".
Nandembo Caverns sounded very fun! And with a friend to lessen the chances of getting lost.
He glanced back to Sam and titled his head at what he asked, "What's a bear?", answered the question of there being any, since Liki hadn't seen a bear ever, but now the little bush-piglet was curious!

Sam shrugged when he mentioned never being in them.
Honestly it wouldn’t be too bad if they didn’t get lost. And if they did, well, he was sure there were ways of getting through it right? “Man, it’s like I said what’s the worst that could happen?” He asked. “I’m sure some animals make it their home too. So we can always ask them the way out if we get lost.”
Well that answered that, as well as relaxed him a bit. Bears weren’t exactly known for their easygoing temperament and could kill a human like him in a single blow after all. “They’re like these big hairy things, even bigger than me,” he explained. “I read a story once about this guy that got his neck broken by one just from one hit.”
Thank god they weren’t working with that he thought as he entered.

"That's true", Liki nodded to the point of always being able to ask others for help from anyone in the caves, assuming they were nice. But then why wouldn't they be, and as long as they weren't like these bears!
He started inside the cave, glancing back to see if Kabili was following and also comment.
"That's awful! Do they hunt your kind?". The idea of an animal also being temperamental was also a possibility, but Liki still asked, and it was pretty common in his experience that hunting was the number one reason one animal would attack another.
"Are bears bigger and stronger than lions then? Is that rude to ask and since you are one now?", a lion he meant of course.

Sam shook his head.
At least he was pretty sure bears that were unprovoked didn’t hunt humans. They mostly stuck to themselves in the caves and their kids, maybe their mates he didn’t really know. But what he did know was that they had never been a problem for him in his life.
“Nah; bears mostly stay out of the cities we live in. Maybe if you come into their territory they’ll get hostile,” he explained honestly. “They’re kinda like a lot of animals that way. Especially if they have a cub nearby.”
Bigger and scarier than lions? Huh that was actually a good question. He hadn’t even thought about who would win in a fight or anything like that. “I mean when they’re on two legs they definitely have the size advantage,” he explained as he followed Liki at a leisurely place. “But I don’t think I’d want to meet either one in a bad mood. So it’s a pretty even playing field.”

Liki nodded, and was about to say similar to what Sam next added on the bears as well, as he said they only attacked if you came into their territory, mostly, and how that was probably a lot like most animals. "Yeah both prey and predators alike don't like it when you just charge into another's territory. I mean, kids are just told to go away, not so much attacked...unless the adult's just really grumpy".
The bush-piglet had been chased before.
He nodded as Sam seemed to say that, depending on the situation, it might be about even. Lions were just the most intimidating animals he knew of, so it had been a good examination point sort of question to get more on how tough theses bears were.
As they walked deeper, he paused and sniffed down two tunnels, trying to figure out which next and best.

Sam would be sure to remember that.
Not that he felt like he'd have to be reminded too much. As far as he was concerned this was the African animals territory and he was just living in it. Sure, he might end up a prince now, but that hardly mattered. If anything that made the situation more tense when he ran around with lions. "That's good at least," Sam explained. "I might need time to learn the territory. At least that's what Simba thinks."
Of course, it was a crossroads. Sam hated these as someone who could sometimes be really indecisive. And what if one of these landed them in the wrong place! Would he be OK? He didn't know... "Uhhhh any idea which way we should go?" He asked curiously. "I'm not sure at this point."

"I'll help ya if you want!", Liki offered, as Sam said it might take some time to learn all of the territories. Sure, he wasn't the bravest piglet, or any other young animal, in all the Pride Lands, but animals had to give a sort of grace for the human prince and with Liki just understanding the rules intuitively, having lived here all his life, surely he was bound to be some sort of help.
"Yeah, most animals will...not attack on sight if they know you're King Simba's son, not wanting that trouble and all, but some still don't care, like crocodiles, but as long as you're not rude". He was sure Sam wouldn't be, from what little he'd seen of the kid so far.
As they came to the cross-roads, Liki sniffed first one way and then the other. "Hmm...they both smell ok...maybe...right?". Between the two, he thought it smelled less stale so maybe had an exit if they did get turned around and couldn't come back this way. He began to walk down that way.

Sam nodded his head.
He definitely wouldn't argue with him if he wanted to help anyway. Simba had told him to make friends and learn all that he could... And this definitely qualified. "I wouldn't mind the help, Liki, thanks!" He commented. Though he did feel a little shudder at the thought of being rude to a crocodile of all things! Did people have a death wish? "I think I'd rather die first. A croc could swallow me in one gulp if I'm not careful."
Sam tapped his chin when he said they both smelled OK. Well in that case. "I say we go left then! My mom said left was our lucky direction... Or something like that." OK maybe he'd made that up to sound like he knew what he was doing more. But hey! Who cares if they both smelled OK he figured as he started moving.

The new prince accepted his help. Liki wiggled his tail happily, pleased to be of help. Of course, he should have been a bit less enthusiastic, as what he was offering to help with was theoretically confrontations with crocodiles. Yet not really, not if he taught Sam how to know and avoid territories in the first place, which was what he'd offered.
Misunderstandings were just maybe part of it, but not if he helped with showing the first well.
Sam seemed to understand the danger and how it was best to keep away though. "Usually it's a mistake", the piglet admitted. Not one he had made, but he had heard of others doing such. "Or...I don't know, I guess animals could do it on purpose, though I don't know why they would".
Again, not the wisest idea.
Sam was all for Left, and Liki didn't have any better info on the caves, hence his asking his companion's opinion. "Ok! Left it is!". He started walking that way, glancing back to make sure the tunnels weren't too narrow for Sam, though they didn't look like they would be, or not yet.

Why would they do it on purpose indeed? Maybe because they were morons. But maybe also because they were curious, and curiosity was the thing that - as they put it, killed the cat, right? "Man, it's so weird thinking about all this stuff the way we do. People back home would think I was crazy," He joked. Then admitted. "Then again they'd also think I was crazy because I was talking to a pig. No offense."
After all, pigs couldn't talk back home.
As he moved to the left however, he did think about how crazy all this was. Maybe Sam really was crazy in that sense. Or maybe he was just totally losing his mind one inch at a time. But he'd never know. "What I mean is, well... Animals don't really talk back home," He explained. "Just to clear that up. They'd think I was crazy talking to my family too."

Being judged for proper behavior, especially concerning your group of herd, sounder or whatever, wasn't so foreign to Liki and he thought of Sam's words in that context as they walked along, and even as he explained. "None taken", he smiled, "before I met you, if I'd tried to say I saw...well what most around here would probably call a shaved monkey, I wouldn't be believed either", he gave a small oink of a laugh.
Animals didn't talk in his own larger territory of back where he came from? "Hmm...I wonder why?". They couldn't just be shy, not everyone. The concept of them not being able to was not something Liki thought of, or that it was unusual for him to be able to talk to Sam.
"Oh so there are pigs back where you came from? Are there warthogs too?". Since they were similar, like distant neighbors that were a bit sloppier; but Sam's home also had bears which Liki hadn't heard of.

Sam snorted.
He guessed that was a good point. He really did stick out like a sore thumb out there, or at least he felt like he did. The more time he spent, and the more he understood the less foreign he felt. But he'd probably always feel like... Well, an alien in some ways. "Yeah, a lot like that," He explained honestly. "I don't know if they can talk, or just weren't born being able to talk... It's weird. A lot of stuff is weird."
Pigs and warthogs? He wanted to say of course! But he also didn't want to sound too matter-of-fact. Sam wasn't a know it all after all by many means. "There is every animal species you can think of. Just far more spread out than what we have here I guess," he admitted. "Like most of what we have around here are native to what continent we're on. We call it "Africa"."

Liki took the answer that the animals back where Sam had come from just didn't talk. The concerns of why and how were for older animals, like the rest of his Sounder. He just nodded. "Or maybe they're shy.
Probably not that.
"Oh", he thought he understood. Sam's continent territory had had more animals, as he'd guessed. "What other animals are there that aren't here?", he asked in interest.
As they walked, and he listened to Sam's answer, a noise from one of the caverns up ahead paused him. It was echoing and he wasn't sure what it was. He wasn't even sure what and who all lived down here.
He stopped, glanced to Sam and then, deciding he was alright if the Prince was with him, stepped a bit closer, not wanting to seem afraid in front of him, and also curious. "I wonder what that is...".

Good question!
Sam tried to think of what else he'd seen back home that he didn't see there. And there were, well, a lot of answers to that actually. "Well, a lot of domestic pets. Like we have these little versions of canines and felines. They're cool, some of them live with us," He explained honestly. Unsure how to better describe a domestic dog or cat than that. "And these things called squirrels too. They're like a giant goofy rat. And really cute."
Sam stopped as he heard the noise, honestly not too sure what it was either. Though a part of him was nervous, the other part was just as curious as Liki. "I don't know, but I'm gonna check it out," He explained rather bluntly with a cheeky grin. "Maybe it's something cool! Like an underground hot spring or something..."
Wishful thinking he figured as he began to approach.
