Liki traveled with his nose to the ground. Which was honestly how he mostly traveled, and especially when he was tracking something. Not in the way predators tracked, and not just because he had been on that end of it before. The caterpillar he was following was within the omnivores range of diet, though he preferred roots to bugs.
No he was just following the caterpillar to know where it went.
Simple as that.
Only it wasn't cooperating. "Hey...", Liki chuckled and, lifting one hoof, peered underneath as the caterpillar turned directions and walked the other way. The piglet promptly did the same, turning around and backtracking.
When the caterpillar climbed up on a rock, Liki sat down and watched it. Maybe it wasn't going to be interesting anymore. He sighed and looked around but kept one eye on the caterpillar just in case.

Sam was bored.
How did a kid get bored with an entire jungle surrounding him you might ask? Maybe it was the fact that there wasn’t any of the movie theaters, gyms, hell just a whole barrage of things that could be found in the city that he was used to. Though, really he had to sneak into a lot of that stuff it had kept him active.
Here the animals did have fun. And he’d sort of started to get in on the fun, but at the same time it was a different kind of fun he had to adjust to.
Today he’d kind of just gone for a stroll when he saw the last thing he was expecting in a jungle. Was that a... pig? There were pigs in a jungle? He always thought they were a domestic creation of some sort - like dogs. So seeing one out there as a wild animal dumbfounded him.
Of course he couldn’t help but chuckle at his situation with the caterpillar. Putting his hands on his hips as he tilted his head. “I really didn’t think I was going to see a pig all the way out here.” He observed out loud. After all the pig didn’t sound much older than him - probably a kid. So there was no real fear

As he glanced around for something more interesting, Liki got more than he asked for! He had been glancing towards that direction, but still the young pig thought he heard the voice first, and it was the main thing that made him spin in that direction.
Liki tilted his own head, the opposite way, as he studied the...well he wasn't a baboon.
The young pig had heard his group talking about some strange arrivals, and the King's actions there-in. Basically the fact that whatever they were had been allowed to stay, or the one found, was this him?
Liki blinked, both at the words and the creature that also didn't sound too much older than himself. "Um...where else are pigs supposed to be?", he asked, but not in challenge, almost genuinely curious and confused.
The concept of domesticated, tame (more or less) pigs, with little to no fur, or not the kind bushpigs and warthogs had, would seem strange to Liki himself if he were to meet one of them.
"What, um, what are you?", the piglet went on to ask sniffing and taking a small step forward.

Well as a nice side to scrambled eggs, Sam thought.
But of course he wasn’t about to just say that like an idiot. That was one sure fired way to get kicked off of Pride Rock. Or at least he assumed which was why he’d so far worked on other means of eating - as tough as it kinda was, he didn’t really mind.
“Well, I probably should leave that one up to the imagination,” he chuckled nervously. At this point he was just thankful he hadn’t apparently scared off the cute little pig. “You sure don’t look like the pigs from back home though. Do all do you out here have fur?”
Oh right, what was he? He kept forgetting that super important question at this point. “Oh me, I’m a human,” he pointed out. “Sorry I keep forgetting you guys pretty much have never seen one.”

The fact that he might have lead into an uncomfortable comment on his place in the Circle of Life escaped Liki and since the boy didn't say what he thought out-loud; thankfully.
Though he still perhaps said too much even with leaving it up to the imagination.
Liki tilted his head the other way.
Did all pigs have fur? "Oh yes, or everyone I've ever seen", Liki said, "though if they didn't I guess they'd be hiding until it grew back" he said thoughtfully, only pondering such just then.
Pigs having fur was normal, yes.
"No I haven't!", Liki stated the obvious on seeing humans. This one, again, seemed young and safe, so he walked up all but next to the boy. "Do all humans...only have a little bit of fur?", he asked his own fur question.

That was a crazy thought.
Honestly he’d never actually been around pigs before so he wondered if the domestic ones did too? He tapped his lip, because god there were so many questions he had that he couldn’t answer because he was in the Pridelands. “Man, there is so much I’m learning,” he chuckled to himself.
Fur? Oh right his hair! He hadn’t even realized that they probably all had questions about that. “Well I mean, some of us grow longer hair, and they grow in other places too,” he admitted. “It’s kind of weird. Mom said I’ll learn more about it when I’m older I guess?”
He tapped his chin. “Come to think of it I’ve always wondered why we don’t have more “fur” too.”

The young human said there was so much he was learning, and honestly the same was true for Liki as well! For starters, what Humans were in the first place! They grew more hair when they got older, apparently. Oh, that made sense! Liki wagged his small tail in excitement and as he felt he understood this statement.
"Oh yes, my Mom said the same and that I would get more fur when I got older...but she's not...around anymore...", he added, though he wasn't sure why. Maybe in case this small human wanted to know more from her, it would be lying to not mention she wasn't around to give more information.
Changing topics, he introduced himself. "I'm Liki!". Talking to humans didn't strike him as odd, he would have thought it odd if there was an animal he couldn't communicate with.

More fur! That was crazy.
Though honestly he couldn’t imagine how the hell the world got bacon then. Now he wanted to just go back to civilization just to ask these burning questions. God he was such a nerd, wasn’t he? “I think all animals kind of have that happen,” he replied. Though his face fell a little as he mentioned his mom being gone. “Yeah uh.... I understand. Mine is too “
Oh right! He hadn’t even introduced himself had he? Again, he really had to work on that. “Oh I’m sorry, I’m Sam,” he said with a smile before giving a slight wave. “Sorry I’m kinda shy, most of the time.”

Sam could relate to his mother being gone. He didn't then mention a father, but somehow the not mentioning was more significant. "Oh...I'm sorry...do you have a group to look out for you at least? I do...though since I don't belong to any of them they don't always notice when I wander away".
To his benefit and perhaps not.
The new boy's name was Sam!
"Sam...I like it, it's a good name!", the piglet said. "You know it almost sounds like our king's name". He then frowned, maybe that was a bad thing to say? He didn't know, but he hoped not. And anyway Zazu wasn't around to tattle on him or anything.
Liki glanced back over to the caterpillar and then back to Sam. "I don't think the caterpillar is going to be interesting anymore", he chuckled, "Wanna come exploring with me?", his little not quite curly tail wagged.

Sam had to think, was he really allowed to talk about it?
Though Simba had said he should honestly let people talk, right? The faster they learned the closer they’d come to expect it. He was silent for a moment, but chuckled when he mentioned it was similar to Simba a little bit. “I mean it’s not a bad thing to wander away all the time,” Sam replied. “As long as you’re careful, right? We’re kids, we adventure “
Finally, he managed to say. “But yeah, I guess I have a whole Pride looking out for me now. Least the royal family,” he chuckled nervously. “Y’see Simba sort of... I don’t know, feels responsible for me, so he took me in... I don’t know I’m still getting used to it.”
Exploring? Great idea! After all, he was in the middle of learning the lay of the land - this was a perfect opportunity. “Sure! I’m pretty much free. As long as I’m back at the den before sundown,” he added rather chipperly. “What were you thinking of?”

Liki was afraid, when Sam didn’t answer at first, that maybe he didn’t have a group to look out for him. When he did respond, it was about wandering and Liki let him avoid the topic if he wanted to, “Right!”, the piglet agreed.
He needn’t have worried, Sam had more than just ‘a group to look out for him’, King Simba was doing such! “Wow!”, the piglet said stunned, “I’ll remember I’m taking a prince around!”, he smiled. It wasn’t for him to say if it was weird of the king to do such.
Speaking of their adventure, Sam was all for coming, though now that there was someone else coming he had to make the idea not sound dumb...
“Oh good! Well I was going to start by seeing if the cherry oranges had dropped from the trees yet, um after eating some we could see what’s in a nearby cave!”
Was that interesting enough for a ward of the king? Hopefully.

Sam paused a moment.
In his time there he’d learned the title had only carried meaning for Kiara. But he supposed as the son of a king and queen... Wow. If hadn’t totally hit him until now. “Yeah I guess I sort of am. It’s just kind of still new,” Sam managed. His voice a little distant. “Not that I don’t like it or anything. He and Nala have been great to me. Just from a kid who just had his mom? It’s kinda crazy. I even have siblings now.”
Ohhh cherries. Sam licked his lips honestly since he loved fruit. Plus the best way to get him on your side? Food. Food was always good. Even if he was still pretty much getting used to a lion diet. Zebra was pretty much an acquired taste after all.
“Oh yeah! That sounds awesome!” He replied. “I didn’t know they had cherries out this way, lead the way!”

Liki didn't really know what royalty titles were right and not, he just used Prince in general, whether it fit or not. "Well, son of a king, I would think it counts".
He didn't know he gave Sam the wrong impression in terms of the fruit they were looking for, but the boy said he was in, so the piglet pranced happily, "Ok! Come on, they're this way!", he headed off to show.
Soon they came to the tree of smaller oranges, hence their cherry name. "See, the small oranges up there! Hmm...one or two dropped but not the rest", as he looked back over to Sam, the piglet thought of something. He did look very monkey-ish...
"Can you climb?" he asked curiously.

Well, he guessed that was true. It was just still a little jarring to be called a prince. Sam had spent his life poor so to be equated to royalty for him was like... Bizarre. “I mean you’re right it’s just a little crazy,” Sam finally admitted. “I was probably the furthest thing from royalty back where I came from. But Simba and Nala have been really good to me, so...”
As he slowed his jog after him he was a little less excited. Like damn that was pretty high. Again though, was it really high when he compared it to like, the tip of high rock? Not really. But this would be a free climb which made him just a little more nervous.
“I can climb I just... Damn that’s high,” again it came out exactly how he’d thought it whoops. “But I’ll do it. I mean it can’t be that high right? Probably smaller there then it looks?”

"Oh yes, King Simba and Queen Nala are great!", Liki agreed, "And the other prince and princess, Prince Kion saved me once". The little pig had nothing but praise for the royal family and this new monkey included.
He felt a bit bad about how nervous Sam sounded about it. "Oh well...I only asked because monkeys are good climbers and you...seemed to be one of them. If it's too high you don't have to go up there, we can just eat these two here on the ground". He rolled one over to Sam's feet and then bit through the rind of another orange.
