Kiara kicked at some rock along the path leading away from the nearest watering hole that had the crocodile float. Makuu's float was bedded down for the evening and Kiara had wanted to check on the fish supply. It seemed things were well, but he had requested she check on the first supply with the Hippos. Kiara was sure that it was not quite high enough and Makuu, thankfully, agreed with her. But, it was good to ask just to be sure.
With the return of Simba and Nala, much of the Prideland was already abuzz and it was evening. Things got around fast and she was already being questioned about if he knew about the human. The most recent, a young Zebra.
"Yes, he knows... I must be going though," Kiara said in a calm voice before she headed off into the evening. The sun had mostly set, but there was a glow still in the sky. Her father still held some of the same views she thought had left after the incident with Zira. It was starting to get on her nerves... SARABI The chill of night was beginning to cool the plains, and the stars above were growing brighter. One last drink before bed was good for the elder, though admittedly, she found herself watching the stars in the peaceful quiet. Sometimes, time alone was nice.
Mufasa's place among them called to her, as did the other great kings of the past. Melancholy found her sometimes, while others, she felt blessed to see the Pridelands returned to glory, and shared her thoughts to the wind. Silence was all she'd ever get, but her faith held out. Other times like this, she too remained quiet, comfortable.
Muttering and a scuffling alerted her, causing her to rise to her world-weary paws to address the owner. Kiara's face, highlighted by the last of the rays of sun, fell into view. "Kiara. Good evening, child." The princess was company she wouldn't mind at all in quiet times like this. "Making your way back too? Best be sure you get enough rest." Kindly, she chuckled; she also should, so the statement applying to herself wasn't unnoticed.

When she heard someone say her name, she looked up and smiled at her grandmother. Oh, it was good to see someone who didn't speak harshly too her.
"Oh, no... I am checking the herds," Kiara said as she looked out over the Savannah. She had a few more to check on before she headed back to Pride Rock. "Father returned this afternoon..." Kiara said, though not as excited as she had been when she greeted him. That had vanished when he began to demand things. She had been leading the pridelands during their absent...
She had earned the respect of the herds in that time, had even forged their alliances and continued to build them, and he came back and insisted on acting like the overprotective king he had been when he first met Kovu.
Returning her thoughts back to her Grandmother, she smiled at her slightly. "Are you also headed back, Grandmother?" She asked her calmly, sitting down to rest her feet and legs after walking so long. TAG: SarabiLOCATION: The Savannah in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

SARABI "I saw. It's always a relief, even if I know he can take care of himself." The elder chuckled; a mother's instinct didn't fade away. And, admittedly, she didn't want to see him gone for very long, for obvious reasons. "You don't seem as happy. Did he say something?" They did butt heads at times... Hardheaded, all of them.
"I was cloud-watching. I'm sure a certain King would rather me be back before night falls, but what's life if not for breaking a rule or two?" Ah, she was being ironic. They had all twisted a few rules here and there, and it wasn't like she was demanded to be back... but she knew it did worry others. Really, it was more for trying to put a smile back on Kiara's face. "Rest with me a little while. You've been working very hard." She herself slid back down to her belly, savoring the earth's continued warmth.

Kiara did have to agree that it was a relief to have her father home, but it also meant that he was home and she didn't know what chaos might come with him being home. After weeks of forging the alliances, keeping the bonds strong, the first thing he says is that she must have guards to go to the Outlands. At her grandmother's question, she let out a sigh.
"Since he has been gone, I have done well to keep the Pridelands in check and forge stronger alliances with the Backlands and Outlands," she explained to Sarabi, laying down near her, resting her paws which had been walking for quite some time. "Now, he wishes me to take guards with me, to protect me... I feel that would only cause tension and show Jasiri and Dhahabu that we can not trust them." Kiara let out a sigh of defeat.
"Father might be king, but he should have learned to trust my judgement, yet I feel the same thing happening that happened before Kovu and I stopped the battle near the river," she said with a defeated tone in her voice. "If this is the case, I fear what tension could cause on the Pridelands."
When Kion had been in the Pridelands, things were great and strong. Her father worried, but he was never overly protective. She could travel about the Pridelands with little worry. Then Kion left and he became strict on his words and it was hard to see him freely happy again. Then things seemed to settle... Now, he was back... Sam had been told about and the lionesses in the Outlands. TAG: SarabiLOCATION: The Savannah in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

SARABI Guards... Simba's concerns were her concerns as well, but she could understand Kiara's perspective. The various alliances would also take note and make their own conclusions. If word of Simba leaving and then returning to put a guard on Kiara spread, some might correctly assume there was a danger the King noted on his travels... or they may think she was treated unjust in some way or he wished to push them away, distrusting them. She nodded, making her mind on the matter.
"His uncertainty can be his enemy in times like this. I agree that you should not leave the Pridelands alone, but that is not because of your inexperience." Her tone fell into seriousness. "My opinion cannot challenge Simba's... but if you leave, please promise me that you'll consider bringing someone with you if it feels like you are being watched. And there's a little trick to having a guard that is not a 'guard'. If one of us has a task to complete and you decide to pounce on two birds with one leap, well..." Sarabi offered a small smile. It's a little trick of royalty. "You are young. It's normal to socialize outside of duty."
An ant crawled over her paw, looking about with confusion as it had fallen off-course of its scent trail. She tipped it back toward the earth so it could go on its way. "What do you think of the issues at paw?"

One thing about Sarabi is that she trust her advice and words. Kiara's grandmother was wise and she didn't treat her like a child any longer. She also spoke in a matter of with her and not at her. As she spoke, Kiara thought over the words and then looked in the direction of the Outlands.
"I have come to consider those in the Outlands my friends, which shouldn't surprise anyone... Janja and Jasiri have made for good leadership now, Jasiri takes her relationship with our family serious," Kiara said as she relaxed with her grandmother. "I will figure out a way to please everyone, but I still feel like dad should respect my wishes as well." Kiara was stubborn like her father, but she felt right in her way as well.
At the question about the issue, Kiara let out a sigh.
"Well... When it comes to Sam, I want to be open-minded about it and learn about him and his way... I think we could all learn from him and about him," she said calmly as she thought over her interactions with him. "I worry father might consider him a threat if he says something father doesn't like, even though he might not see anything threatening about it." It was a rather good reason to be concerned.
"As for this Lioness in the Outlands with cubs and another... I do not know, but I feel rushing to conclusions isn't the correct manner to handle this... She might be a victim in this," Kiara said as she considered how Kovu was raised as well. From what she had learned from him, his childhood was maimed in physically training and lies from Zira. But, Zira seemed to believe those as truth and it forced him to not have a childhood. TAG: SarabiLOCATION: The Savannah in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

SARABI Pleasing everyone was in impossible task, but she could recognize her heart in it. Fear of conflict was one thing, but the selfless desire to bring peace to everyone... Some would call it naive, but she would call it brave.
"You remind me of your mother in times like this. She was young and courageous at your age. The unknown can scare many, but she sought to make it known. Your father... Broken trust can take decades to heal, but she found a way to show him he could trust in himself again and in the once-unknown strength he has." A gentle smile was on her lips. "He will understand you. I don't trust hyenas and I don't know humans, but I trust you, and for me that is enough."
After everything she'd been through, some wounds would leave a lasting mark on her perspective. Hyenas were not something she trusted in the slightest. Still, she'd honor Kiara's hard work, remaining wary.
She had to mull over the topic of the Outlanders. There was no easy way to handle that, and so it made sense that Simba and Kiara would butt heads on this. She still didn't know Kovu well, but she knew Zira's selfish devotion to Scar and the manipulative nature she had.
"It's dangerous. But unlike you, they have cubs to worry for and no pride to defend them. Watch yourself." A mother with her back against the rocks wasn't something to take lightly. "I hope you're right."

Kiara smiled at her grandmother when she spoke about who she trusted and didn't trust. Several of the lionesses who had seen what Taka... Scar... Had done, didn't believe what Jasiri did was true. But, Kiara had seen it and she believed in the clan more than others. It was up to Kiara to help keep the peace and she would do her best.
When it came to the topic of the outlanders, Kiara nodded in agreement. She had seen mother's be fierce about their cubs. Had heard the stories enough time herself. She would be careful and she would take those she knew would help the most in this time.
"I'll be careful," she said as she rubbed her grandmother gently as they laid there. It was only a matter of time before Simba sent others to search for them. Kiara had no intention of being forced back and not many would try and force her back. Even under the order's of her father. But, she didn't wish to cause drama either. SARABI Leadership took determination, ambition, and the willingness to learn from actions. All these things, Kiara had, and more. It was no small amount of pride that flared in Sarabi's chest, gently smiling at her. They breathed in tandem for a while longer, her feeling nothing more to say.
When she was ready, she raised up and nodded toward the direction of Pride Rock. "It's time for me to return. Will you join me? Or are you going to wrap up your duties?" She knew they'd look for them soon, and didn't want to trouble anyone either. It was nice to have a grandmother-granddaughter talk, however, where prying eyes wouldn't complicate it.

Kiara smiled when her grandmother stood and asked if she would be returning with her. Kiara followed in her standing, but shook her head. "No, I want to finish my duties tonight... Father might be home, but he is home resting." Kiara nuzzled into her grandmother's side a little, just like a little cub would do when they wanted to be loved on. It was always nice to feel that love even as an adult. TAG: SarabiLOCATION: the Savannah in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^ Right after Simba's Return from the Summit
