Mufasa knew this was a teaching moment more than anything.
It was something his father had told him when he was about Simba’s age. And important to the survival of their kingdom - always. So he became far more serious as he spoke. ”Simba, do you know how we’re different than those we would call our enemies?” He spoke in all honesty but didn’t wait for an answer. ”Where others hold onto hate and shame. We respond with compassion, love, and understanding… This has always been our way.”
He was right, after all. ”So yes, whether they are hyena, jackal, monkey, or even crocodile should the kings will it, we will answer,” he nuzzled Simba as he said this. ”For remember this, my son. Love is always the answer. Not hate or fear.”
With a hum of thought, he peered one last time at Jabari. ”But if it concerns you, I’ll tell you what… If I am among the great kings when our time comes,” he explained. ”I will only ever guide creatures worthy of your big heart to you… Hyena or otherwise.”
He then added. ”It has been a few generations since we’ve welcomed an outside, however,” he explained honestly. ”Let alone adopted one as a prince or princess… So do not worry yourself, my son. When the time comes we will simply know…”
