Map. Book. More strange words from a strange ape.
"Well, I've never heard of a Kenya or zoo. At this point, I suggest going with the flow. Less of a headache that way." Akachi rose to his paws before stretching out, unsheathing his claws to anchor himself in the dirt as his tail quivered. He stepped out of his stretch and turned his back on the rising sun.
His ears lowered, a look of disbelief contorting his features. "A couple days?" He echoed before the leopard took a step to the side, once more looking Sam up and down. This ape was in a foreign land and, from what he gathered, lost his mother. Could he even hunt? Forage? Fight? His resolve to ditch the cub with someone else wavered for the briefest of moments.
I'm surprised an opportunistic hunter hasn't claimed him already. So thought the opportunistic hunter.
Akachi dipped his head down to swipe his right paw over his snout, pulling downward with a heavy sigh. "The Pridelands boasts the more amiable animals, that's for sure. Just... don't leave the territory." There was a small pause as his rounded ears strained to listen to their surroundings. "Have you eaten in the past few days, cub?"
No, he was not going to hunt for Sam.
He was going to make someone else do it.

“I mean - I’m having a conversation with a cat so I’d probably just go with the flow yeah.”
Honestly, Sam was probably more capable of taking care of himself than most would expect. Sure he hadn’t “gotten out” much but his mom would have never taken him along if he was totally inept to say the least. “Yeah maybe four or five? I don’t know how long I was knocked out so it’s hard to tell,” he admitted honestly. “I mean my mom taught me a lot. She’s been on a ton of expeditions like this so - y’know she helped me get ready.”
Sure, he wasn’t exactly the best hunter but he did know basic survival skills that kept him alive thus far. “Yeah, luckily my knapsack survived,” Sam in shouldered his backpack and unzipped it to reveal food. Rations he’d been living on. “I might still be a cub but I’m pretty good at this stuff. It’s hunting after I run out that will be the harder part. Mom says I’m too young for a gun.”
Not that Sam sounded worried or scared about it. He’d always been that optimistic kid, brimming with confidence. However misguided that definitely now schemed. “The bigger problem is not knowing where we actually are. Because that’s gonna make getting back home harder,” he admitted. “You said the lions rule this place, right? When I’ve found out where the others are I may go looking for them. Maybe they know something about humans in this area. Assuming they don’t make a meal out of me.”

Sam likely had not been knocked out for too long. The scavengers would have picked him off long before he woke up had he been unconscious for even a day. Then again, he supposed the hyena situation wasn't too bad now, and most scavengers were chased to the Outlands long ago. This cub was a lucky one, he would give him that.
Akachi's curiosity was piqued as the hairless ape shrugged off the odd lump on his back. The black leopard drew closer, leaning in to sniff at the strange skin. His head jerked away, his ears assaulted by the atrocious sound it produced as Sam opened it up. "N... Nap... sack?" The word was foreign on his tongue, and his nose scrunched with annoyance. Thankfully, he was able to nail the pronunciation on the first-ish try. The tip of his tail flicked back and forth with intrigue as yellow eyes peered into the knapsack. "This is... food?" Leaning his head in closer, he continued sniffing, faintly smelling something interesting. Whatever the food was wrapped in, however, blocked most of the scents, preventing him from pinpointing what was in there. "Dunno what a gun," one syllable, much easier to nail without much thought, "is, but I'd suggest a sharpened stick. Think I've seen some other apes play around with tools like that."
He paused, reconsidering his word choice, before adding, "Not the furless kind, mind you."
Drawing his head back, Akachi had to turn away briefly to let out a sneeze. The unfamiliar scents tickled his nose, though it was not enough to completely deter him. "Might be a good idea to head straight to Pride Rock where His Royal Fluffiness lives, cub." Rubbing at his paw with his nose, Akachi glanced back to Sam. "Wander for too long, and you'll run into trouble. I can point you in the right direction, but I can't do much more than that." He was not going anywhere near Pride Rock without being dragged by the scruff of his neck.

Interesting. He had never heard of any of these either.
Had no one in the Pridelands ever actually seen a human? That was impossible. Humans had been to every part of the world, or so they had assumed. Someone had to be out here - not even a poacher? He tried to wonder if this wasn’t some sort of lost world.
“You know I’m starting to think that this isn’t your average Savannah,” Sam finally managed to say out loud. His voice a little lost in the thoughts running in his mind. “I wonder... Could this be why no one found Zion?”
Honestly it was not too hard to believe. If this world had some sort of magic to it, maybe that was why the city had been lost all of these years. No one knew where to really look. He was pulled from these thoughts however when he brought up seeing the king being a good idea.
The boy nodded. “I mean as long as the lions are friendly. My mom worked with them. But I’m not sure how good going into a den would be. But if he is the king, I can’t imagine he’d eat me right away.”

"Have you been to any other savannas to compare?" This was pretty average to him. Obviously this hairless ape was just confused because he had lived in such terrible, quiet isolation this entire time. Zion, however? Akachi's head tilted to one side as a look of thought crossed his features. "Who's Zion? Are they lost, too?" Of course he would not know that Zion was a place, just as he had never heard of Kenya.
Akachi scoffed at the idea of the reigning monarch eating anything right away, especially if it talks. "Don't worry. Rumor has it that the king was raised on grubs." The leopard turned around and paced behind Sam, once more rubbing up against the back of his legs. "Besides, their shaman is a baboon. Anything close to that should be safe." His tail curled as he stepped out from behind Sam and slunk down the hill.
"C'mon, cub. Pride Rock is this way. You can't miss it."

Hmm that was a good point.
He’d never been on one and this was his first time. Maybe all the animals did somehow talk? He didn’t know anymore. This whole thing was one confusing mess and he couldn’t lie about that. “Zion’s a place. That’s where mom said we were looking for when we crashed,” Sam explained. “It’s some giant city of gold and they say it has a fountain of youth, or something...”
Grubs? Like bugs? Blech. He really couldn’t imagine doing that if anything the thought made him want to hurl. But at the same time he wasn’t going to complain about it. “A shaman? Man so this is like a literal kingdom. That’s so cool,” Sam said in disbelief. “I just want to make sure he doesn’t think we’re a threat or anything. I mean - I don’t know about the others but I like animals way more than people anyway.”
Then again who didn’t? He wondered as he followed the leopard.
