It is free real estate.
They said that Kion was gone! Njaa had been away from the Outlands for a while, sure, but now that he was back no news could have been better than that, other than Jassiri finally giving up, of course. The leader of the Lion Guard was no more, which meant that not only this hyena boss was free to push against the other hyena clans unbothered, but was also feelign confident enough to invade the Pridelands. Tall, taller than most hyenas, with strong shoulders and large spots, his evil eyes patrolled the grasslands as he walked. Prey, food. So much green, so many animals. Prey, food. So much food, so many prey.
he walked unnoposed, not even bothering to hide his scent, or the other hyennas who followed him. Two other flanked him, and a coupel more were hidden int he tall grass. "Remember, boys, we are after the zebras. I haven't eaten a juicy fat zebra in AGES. Tonight we FEAST! HAHAWWHEHEHEWEWE!" His laughter was joined by hsi gang's as they patrolled the king's territory. Without that red-haired boy-scout, who would stop them? The king himself? Hah!

Vitani was with a group of other lionesses, the group was actually rather large for anyone not paying attention. Most of the group were part of the hunting party that were after the herd of zebra that was rumored to be out this way along the border. The hunters were calculating, calm, with careful and slow steps. Not Vitani and three other lionesses though, they had different roles. Their roles were to defend the Pridelands as well as to stay neutral with the results of this hunt. On the one hand, if her fellow lions were successful, they would all eat well tonight. But on the other, if the zebra herd got away, then they deserved their freedom. The circle of life would continue regardless.
No, Vitani and her guard were far enough away from the hunters now that the two groups looks completely separate. As Vitani continued along the edge of the border, a loud laughter caught her attention. Her ears instantly pinned down in rage as she snarled fiercely. How dare they come here! Hyenas were rarely seen anymore, not since Scar died and her family was banished to the Outlands. Vitani shuddered to think about it but forced herself to stay in the present. She was the leader of the Lion Guard and she would protect her new home. Upon getting closer, the lioness growled as they came into sight, "Get OUT of the Pridelands, scum! You are NOT welcome here! Leave!"

Njaa's smirk only grew as three, no, four lionesses approached. They were clearly headed straight at the hyena group. The larger one, clearly the leader, had a slight blue tint to his pelt, but his piercing yellow eyes made his smirk absurdly ironic. "Look look, what do we have here?~" As Njaa came to a stop, the other hyenas followed, as if keeping some kind of formation. This was not very common for hyenas, but these ones were apparently well-trained. "What's wrong? Is the king too busy to come to greet us? Does the guard have anything better to-" The hyena stopped mid-sentence as his eyes narrowed and his face morphed into confusion.
Njaa's eyes locked on the mark on Vitani's shoulder, and not only hers, but on the entire guard's left shoulder. He wasn't just facing lions, which he hated, not even just girls, who he despised, but also- The confusion lasted for a second or two, but soon his lips curled into a smile. Into a grin. A vile, poison-dripping grin "I just don't believe it~" He stepped forward "So the red-hair is gone, and they couldn't find anyone else? Are they desperate enough to make you a guard member? That's so, so sad! You know, you people should learn to give up, that's just sooooo desperate!"
His eyes locked straight into Vitani's, beaming her with hunger, hate, and vileness so dense one could cut it with a rusty dull knife "What are you even supposed to be? The cutest?~" His voice sounded patronizing, and it was followed by crackling from a couple of hyenas.
"The shiniest claws?~" Another hyena joined
"The softest paws?~" Was heard in the other direction
"No no, she is not like the others! They gave her a boy's job so she would not be around them~" Njaa interjected, speaking about the other lionesses
"Yeah, no way she's the cutest! What is she then?"
"I know, I know! The dirtiest fur!"
"The worst smelling~ Hahehehehahawahawe!"
In the background, one specific large hyena smelled his own shoulder, completing "Hmm... Nah, I think that's just me"

The leader of the Lion Guard smirked as she saw confusion enter the hyena leader's face. They had thought they would just walk on to the Pridelands without any consequences. The rumors that there was a new Lion Guard must not have reached their tiny ears. Vitani's smirk grew larger. She saw right past this male hyena's bravado. "I don't need to bother the king when we can easily handle ourselves. Now stop talking and get out!" Vitani growled deep, her claws digging into the dirt beneath her and her ears starting to pin back against her skull.
But then the hyenas started to do what they always did whenever they were grouped together like this. They started to fall back with verbal attempts at hurting their opponents. At first, Vitani did have a small flashback of feeling unworthy to really lead the Lion Guard because of the fact that she used to be an Outlander but the hyenas were not playing off of that worry or fear. No, they thought she was like some of the snobbier Pridelander lionesses. Now that was funny. Vitani chuckled, "Do you all really think I care about my looks? Nope, not at all, all I care about is sinking my claws into your skin to shred it!" Vitani took a couple steps forward, her eyes showing anger and delight at the thought of fighting this pathetic pack. She took a second to look back at her Guard, about to order the others to attack. But then she heard the larger hyena in the back say that he was the worst smelling. "Well why don't you just take a bath then?"
Vitani had never understood hyenas but she did know that not all of them were bad. It did not seem fair to her that this one hyena legitimately thought that he smelt worse than the others. "There's a small pond right on the edge of the Pridelands. We can lead you to it if you all want to bathe. No one should feel dirty and smelly if they don't have to be, that's not fair."

Being the quiet, reserved lioness that she was, Imara had been almost completely silent in their following of the hunting party. Her ears were flattened and her body in a low crawl as she moved through the tall grass of the Savannah. Though the Lion Guard was not part of this party to hunt, Imara still took precautions to remain as invisible as possible among the grass, not wanting to disturb any potential prey along the way. One wrong movement, one wrong sound, and they could easily ruin this hunt. They were there as protectors and extra eyes, so they had to be much more mindful of their movements and paw placement. Though that silence was soon broken by the sound of all too familiar laughter, causing Imara's ears to perk forward for a moment, hyenas... Letting out a low rumble in her chest, the dark gray lioness' mouth curled into a silent snarl as she raced after Vitani with the rest of the guard. There, they were met by a group of male hyenas, ones who thought they were funny as usual. She couldn't help rolling her eyes at their verbal jabs towards Vitani and the rest of the Guard. Certainly they didn't look as well groomed as the rest of the Pridelanders, rougher even, but that was hardly anything worth taking to heart. It was more annoying than insulting. What really was insulting were that these hyenas thought they could get away with whatever they wanted. " This is a waste of time." Imara finally broke her silent with a deep growl, stepping forward to stand at Vitani's side, ignoring the large hyena's remark that he was greatly in need of a bath. Compared to the rest of her companions, Imara could be an intimidating sight. She was stockier and larger in frame, slightly taller even than most of their Guard, almost nearly on the same build as Sarabi herself. Though the young female turned her head to give Vitani an incredulous look, " Vitani, they're not going to care about getting a bath. They came here to trespass and steal from the Pridelands. Let's just tear them apart already!" Imara urged, wanting to get the hyenas out of the Pridelands as soon as possible, her own claws digging in the dirt in anticipation. Tags: Njaa, @vitani
