PERSONAL INFO
Family: Simba (father), Nala (mother), Kiara (sister), Kovu (brother in law)
Mate: Rani
History: Kion was born second to Simba and Nala, king and queen of the Pridelands. His sister, Kiara, was firstborn by a year, and therefore the heir. And you know what? Good for her! Kion wished his sister the best and was quite happy to play his friends every day while Kiara got lectured.
And then came the day he got the Roar of the Elders and suddenly everybody was looking to him for answers and protection and comfort. And you know what? He was GOOD at it. Not at first, nobody's good at anything the first time the try it. At first he tried to be like his dad, fierce and unyielding. Then he met Jasiri, a hyena that was actually nice! Then he tried to be like his mom, compassionate and understanding. That backfired when Reirei the jackal took advantage of it to wreak havoc during a peaceful celebration.
In desperation, he even looked to Kiara as a role model. But the thing with copying your sibling is that, you know, you're copying your SIBLING. That... didn't turn out so well. Everything ended okay, but it still left a bad taste in Kion's mouth that everything could have gone wrong and it would have been his fault.
It wasn't until the reveal of Scar's ghostly return that Kion decided it didn't matter. He could be strong and fierce and kind and compassionate all together. He could defend the Pridelands and the circle of life. He was nothing like Scar, no matter what the apparition thought.
At least that's what he thought until he got his own scar, in the exact same place as his great uncle's. And from what he was told, it was supposed to make him evil, like Scar? Kion didn't really get it, but that might have been, you know, the pain of having snake venom directly injected into his eyeball.
He and his team went on a journey, to a place called the Tree of Life to get his scar healed. It was long and hard, in more ways than one. The longer it went on the more his scar hurt and the more he lashed out at everyone. His judgement became irrational, and his patience dwindled to near nothing.
They reached the mountains that surrounded the Tree of Life when they were ambushed by another lion pride. The fight was a short one, as Kion used his Roar to save one of his teammates by sending one of theirs away. Everything came to a standstill and they were sent away.
Everything resolved itself somehow, someway. Largely due to the matriarch of the Night Pride, Queen Janna. Being the Tree's primary healer, Kion spent a lot of time with her. Subsequently, he also spent a lot of time with her heir, Rani. Also known as leader of the Night Guard. Also known as the lions that ambushed the Lion Guard.
Apparently the whole thing had been a misunderstanding, and Kion struck up a wary friendship with Rani. That friendship grew into fondness which grew into more. Kion didn't realize how much he cared for Rani until Queen Janna completed her journey on the circle of life.
Rani broke down, and Kion wished, more than anything, that he could protect her from this heartbreak. He wanted to make her smile again, and make her keep smiling. If that meant convincing her she'd be a great queen then helping her with her duties, then so be it. Sometimes she didn't need or even want his help, and it took a while, but eventually they became a cohesive unit. Kion learned to follow Rani's lead, and Rani learned to trust Kion's instincts.
They grew close enough for Rani to even ask Kion to stay and be her king. And he was going to say yes. Really, he was! But then Jasiri and Janja appeared with news of Zira, an evil lioness who wanted to take over the Pridelands and kill Kion's family. It hurt him deeply to leave the Tree of Life, leave Rani, but he had a duty to his homelands.
They got home only to, ONCE AGAIN, be ambushed by a group of lions. Really, it was starting to be a problem. The fight was broken up by, surprisingly, Kiara. Turned out, the lions that attacked them? Were the NEW Lion Guard. While they'd been gone, Zira's pride that had attacked JOINED Simba's pride.
The new Guard was led by Vitani, daughter of Zira and sister of Kovu. Who was, apparently, now mates with Kiara? And the future king of the Pridelands? Kion had missed a LOT. There were arguments between the two Guards until somebody suggested a competition to determine who would be the Lion Guard.
It went back and forth and came down to Vitani and Kion. And Kion surrendered. Told Vitani she would be a great leader and relinquished the Roar to her. In relinquishing the Roar, he was able to keep it.
And with his duties in his homelands, he and his friends turned their paws toward where he really wanted to be: back toward the Tree of Life. Back toward Rani.
Kion and Rani married, making him King Consort. And they have ruled together on peace ever since.
