Kiara was stretched out on her mother's favorite lounging rock. The view from the back of Pride Rock was always quite beautiful. The Backlands were known for their beauty and they were ruled by the Zebra herd lead by the golden Zebra. Kiara had enjoyed getting to know her in her youth, but she also seemed a little scattered brained.
Kiara yawned, rolling over to look at the other Lionesses. The morning report had been fine, Sam was getting use to the Pride Lands and there was still no news about the other humans. This was a good thing, right? At least she hoped it was anyway.
There were many lionesses here, a small group near here were originally from the Outlands, having joined the Pride in the recent seasons. They were talking, laughing and sometimes she heard stories of their own youth.
"... I do remember when Zira was happier... I hate Scar got to her the way he did... When he did, we lost our friend..." There was sadness in her the voice of one of the older lionesses and a few heads nodded in agreement. Kiara had never asked about Zira's life before Scar... Or Taka... That had been his real name...
"Have you seen Namke or Mwana since that night?" Kiara closed her eyes, trying relax, but still overhearing some of the conversation by chance. So, there were two lionesses missing since the attack Zira lead? Well, maybe it would be wise to find them? TAG: @kovu LOCATION: The Back of Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

Kovu had thankfully had increasingly less of a presence since the prides had re-united, though to him it always felt like the first time, and the Pridelanders always felt like a different pride... His mother's passing was still in memory, yes, but moreso her life seemed to be more often a topic. What could have been, what had been before... He preferred to keep his mother out of his head, and for good reason. Whether fear or worry of what others will think.
That made it a good idea to find Kiara and be with her, not that such was ever a bad idea in his mind! The brown lion spotted his mate, and approached her with care and gentle movements, closer and closer, hoping to surprise her... once he was in paw's-reach, Kovu put that paw on her back!

"No, I haven't seen them at all... Zira had left them to keep guard over Inyere and Lesedi... After the battle, I don't know if anyone was sent after them..." Kiara was trying not to listen, but it was hard. So, there were more Lionesses out there that Zira hadn't brought to the battle? It was concerning, especially if no one told them about anything. "Maybe Inyere and Lesedi returned to their original pride?" Kiara could hear another coming up.
"Doubtful..." The sound of someone laying down in that general area made Kiara's ear twitch. "Inyere and Lesedi joined out lioness band before we got to the Outlands... Their pride was taken over by a group of males." Kiara was trying hard not to pay attention, but now she was and it was hard not to listen...
The sudden feeling of something on her back made her eyes pop and her turn around quickly, teeth bared. When she realizing who it was, she relaxed, but it had alerted several other lionesses. A few were gently laughing, others were standing up and breathing hard. Including the group that had been talking.
"Kovu," she said in relief and also surprise. Now that she knew who it was, she found herself laying back down, causing the others to relax again as well. "You shouldn't do that," she said with a nudge at him with her paw. She was happy he was a bit more relaxed now compared to when they first saw each other as young adults. Although he was listening to her scolding, Kovu was more than happy to turn his ears to the conversation; as well as Kiara's attention. He returned her nudge with a nudge of his own. "I'm learning to ask forgiveness instead of permission; May I ask what they are talking about? he tilted his head toward the lionesses. "Zira and some lionesses?" he shrugged some, "Did they mention them coming around...? his tone turned from idle curiosity to a particular one.
While he spoke, and also after, he moved to lay down a comfortable distance away from Kiara, snout-to-snout and rump-toward-rump, tail hitting this way and that way as he looked in her eyes, almost seeking an answer as much from her eyes as he sought from her snout.

Kiara glanced over at the Lionesses who had resumed their conversation. They didn't seem to be hiding anything, they were back to their mulling thoughts. But, it had also caught Kovu's attention as well. Kiara yawned a little and glanced over. "Well, first they asked about two lionesses, Mwana and Namke... Apparently, they knew them well. You?" The lioness who had started the conversation was someone she had seen when she was much younger, when she had first met Kovu.
"Then, they spoke about an Inyere and Lesedi..." Kiara shrugged, not knowing any of the names really. They weren't here in the Pride Lands. She had met all the Outlanders who had joined. Those names weren't here.
"Didn't Vitani send someone after them though?" One of the Lionesses asked from the group.
"Yeah, but never saw her again either, but she was pretty loyal to Zira... Likely she never even went out there and told them anything," the other lioness said, the one who had been around when Kiara had first met Kovu. "I remember when things were simple... I came with Zira to the Pride Lands, before she ever even met Scar... But Scar seriously twisted her..." The older lioness said in a voice of pity.
Kiara glanced over and then back at Kovu. "Maybe you should ask them?" TAG: @kovu LOCATION: The Backside of Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

Kovu listened as Kiara filled him on what he missed, giving him a better idea of what was going on with the lionesses, he nodded along. "I see..."; Though he shook his head at her question. Can't say I have." he answered, turning his attention to their talking for a long moment; Plenty long enough for Kiara's question, nay prompt, to become necessary.
"Ask them? Me?" Kovu questioned, "I may have been mother's favorite..." he rolled his eyes, "But everyone knows who I chose." he sighed. "Maybe there is something to it." he stated, looking at the grass between them for a moment. "Do you also not want to?" Kovu's head tilted. "You rarely say I should, it's always we should." he smirked, and rose to his feet slowly but surely.

Kiara chuckled at his questioning tone and stretched a little as he spoke. She shrugged when he mentioned everyone knew who he chose. "Yes and everyone here seemed to have chosen the same... They chose peace and not war." Her tone was reassuring and she let her paw touch his own. She glanced over at the lionesses, they were still in conversation, not paying any attention to the two of them.
"I think sometimes they still have a hard time talking to me... Most the time, they go to Vitani and then she comes to me... I want them to be comfortable with me, but I don't want to push them either," Kiara said in a concerned voice and smiled when he stood up. "Alright, together..."
She stretched one more time and then padded over.
"Good morning," she said, gaining the attention of the three outland lionesses. She hated to think of them as Outland, but it was easier to remember the original group they were with. Especially when they were still comfortable.
"Oh, good morning, Princess."
"Kiara, please..." The lionesses nodded and relaxed a little. Kiara glanced over at Kovu and then laid down with the other Lionesses. "I'm sorry, I do not mean to pry... But, you spoke of some other Lionesses just a few moments ago... Mwana and Namke? Inyere and Lesedi?" This earned a look at each other from the three lionesses. It was a mixture of worry and relief.
"Yes... Mwana and Namke were part of Zira's Pride for many seasons... I think one was put in charge of Vitani at once point, to keep her from running off to much," The older of the three said as she crossed her paws.
"But Inyere and Lesedi were part of my band of lionesses," Another one said, gaining Kiara's attention. After a good look, Kiara realized that her coloration were lighter then the other Outland Lionesses. It showed she was from a different area outside the Pridelands and Outlands. "They joined our Band not long after her own pride was taken over by a group of Bachelors... We were all coming to the Pridelands... But, Zira cut us off and forced us to join her pride." "Even I have a hard time talking to you, my dear." he teased, "Whenever I do you seem to know what to say to tell me I'm wrong..." he nudged her, "At least, most of the time." he conceded his point before she could even counter herself! From nudge to walking at her side, he made his way over to the lionesses, and easily allowed Kiara to take the lead... but he would at least not make her do all the talking. First of course, he listened...
Yes, he remembered those two... Sadly his memory wasn't great thanks to not wanting to think of Zira. It would surely come back to him when, or if... he met them. Or if Vitani reminded him. She's good at that. he thought, and smiled fondly of his sister. "I remember." he answered without volunteering further about the subject.
"I... Mother didn't mention how she got you to join..." the brown lion stated, and eager to move on from the subject. "What's important is you are here now, but the question is... Why aren't they?" his head tilted. "And if we should be doing something about it? he added. "As it does seem to be troubling you at least a little bit."

Kiara swatted at him with her tail when he spoke about himself having a hard time talking to her. The lion was a charmer in his youth, she was just spontaneous and it caught him off guard most the time. She found his discomfort from that adorable, but she rarely did it anymore.
When Kovu spoke to the Lioness, she looked at him firmly. "You had already left when we were forced into the Pride... not long after that, Inyere was named Nuka's mate..." The older lioness said to them as she laid there. "I don't think she was really happy about it at first, but I noticed they had a connection after they got to know each other." This was surprising news to Kiara and she looked over at Kovu with obvious shock. Kiara had never met Nuka, not once in her youth or adult life. She only heard about him...
The only true son of Scar... Taka... To her understanding. "Why was she not with the others that night?" Kiara asked the lioness who looked at them and glanced at the others.
"She was with cubs... Inyere was told to stay behind and her sister as well... was too young," the older lioness told them, earning another surprised look on Kiara's face. "As for the others, Mwana and Namke... the probably left the Outlands... Maybe Inyere and Lesedi went with them?" The older lioness looked down a little saddened. "Zira never trusted us or Inyere and her sister... Mwana and Namke were not there to guard them for protection... But to guard them so they didn't run off... Inyere's cubs were important, but I don't know why."
They were important because they were the grandchildren of Taka. Kiara didn't say it, but she looked at Kovu in worry and concern.

The prince nodded, "Oh, yes that makes sense." He let out a sigh, "A connection? Really?" he hrmed, returning Kiara's look with but a nod.
"A connection? I..." Kovu held his tongue, thinking for a moment... and then he responded, "That makes sense, actually. He was a good brother, when not competing for mother's attention..." he spoke, trying his best to speak well, but to put his thoughts out there as well. "He was not cruel." he shook his head. If anything Nuka was neglectful, after all. Kovu nodded, enough he could claim he thought of the obvious answer to her absence, but not rubbing it in yet. The brown lion nodded again, but with sadness. "Yes, with mother it was usually not the 'good' kind of guarding, or otherwise." he shook his head, "I didn't think Zira valued Nuka that much... there must be something more to it?" he hrmed. The thought of Scar's grandchildren crossed his mind but it didn't exactly hit. It had been drilled into him that he was the son of Scar, thinking of Nuka in that way was foreign. "They would be my nephews, or nieces..." he mused. "Sounds like family business..." his eyes met with Kiara's, a gaze that asked the obvious question of her without words. Will it be her business?

The lioness nodded her head at his question. "Yes, very much so... I didn't know him before we were forced to join," she said to Kovu, looking down slightly at her paws slightly. As he continued to speak, the lioness paused in some movements with her paw and looked up.
"What is it?" Kiara asked as she looked at the lioness, who looked at her and let out a sigh.
"Mwana and Namke were close to Zira... Close enough that they talked privately a lot while we were there... I overheard them speaking one day, privately," she said, slowly thinking over her words before she sighed. "I was going to walk away, when I heard them say Inyere's name..." It was obvious that the lioness was conflicted about sharing the information. Maybe it was due to being forced into Zira's Pride and slightly brain washed. All the outlanders were working hard to remove their thoughts about the Pridelanders. They were settling, but there were growing pains, as normal.
"What did they have to say about her?"
"Mwana was wondering why it was so important they watch Inyere so closely... Zira told her they had to reserve the Bloodline of Taka... My understanding is that Taka... is who you refer to as Scar... She said, that Vitani and Kovu, were not the son or daughter of Scar," she said, causing Kiara to look at Kovu and let out a sigh. They knew this themselves, Kiara and Kovu had spoken about it before, before the battle took place... Before the ambush of Simba... Before the death of Nuka.
"It is family business, but I think we will need some help... Let's talk to Vitani, see if we can come up with a plan and go find them," Kiara said to him calmly, touching his paw and then looking back at the Lionesses. "Thank you... Um..."
"Ukweli," the older lioness said and Kiara smiled, standing and giving them all her attention and thanking them. As she walked away, she nudged Kovu and swatted at him with her tail as they walked away. "So, now we know who Inyere is... And you have more family we need to find and bring home."

Kovu looked the lioness over, nodding along, while his eyes watched her body language. He was doing his best to be patient, even for him... whatever it was the lioness had, it was difficult for her to speak it.
Finally she did speak the details, he nodded less of 'listening' and more of 'understanding'. "Scar..." he let out a heavy sigh as he spoke the name. At Kiara's paw he turned around with her, "I see. thoughts filled his head, though further words didn't come from his snout until they were some distance away.
"Scar... " he shook his head, this time the name said with a certain... anger. "I... I want to believe the best, Kiara..." he said, "I am worried." he admitted. "I thought we had heard enough of Scar. I want to believe we can all put Scar behind us. Zi-... Mother... should have been the end of it. Your brother got rid of him, I heard." his claws dug into the dirt mid-step. "I'm worried... my niece could be a new Zira."
Kovu looked at her, "Are we ready to face the possibility?"

Kiara looked at Kovu as he spoke and she let herself rub against his shoulder softly. He was worried and for good reason. She nodded as he spoke about Kion removing Scar from their worry. "He did... He forgave Scar and it was that act itself that brought Scar to his end," Kiara said in the memory of the tale that came from the guard after it happened. Bunga was full of telling people stories...
"I think we shouldn't judge those for the acts of those before them... I think with love, the cub or cubs would thrive," Kiara said to Kovu, a tone of hope in her voice. "And Inyere sounds like she did not want to do what she did, but had little choice... I want to hear her side of things... We should speak with Vitani," Kiara said as they walked along some of the trails. TAG: @kovu LOCATION: The Backside of Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

Kovu stood firmly at first while his lioness pressed on him, then pressed against her as he seemed to acknowledge her gesture fully. "We can hope so..." he let out with a rumbling sound, just above a growl; A general displeasure with the situation... distracted enough he followed Kiara without paying mind to where she was leading him, attention on her words.
"You are right... We at least should speak to Inyere, and to Vitani." that made sense enough, "The cubs..." he thought a moment, "I don't want cubs to grow up exiles, like us..." he shook his head, "Whatever happens..."

Kiara nodded in agreement. It truly did sound like a bad situation all around. But, Kiara had hope, that maybe this could be fixed. She gave him a reassuring smile when he spoke about the cubs. He would make a good dad one day. She snuggled his neck with her head and smiled.
"We will give them the chance," she wanted to and it was all she had to do. Her father would likely not like it, but she would deal with him. "I'll speak with Jasiri, maybe she has seen these lionesses and the cubs." TAG: @kovu LOCATION: Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^
