GENERAL INFO
Personality:
Brave, bold, and a bit sarcastic. Sam is street-wise beyond his years but definitely a little lacking in social graces. As someone who comes from poverty and the streets, he has learned to live with the hands life has dealt him. Though it has rendered him a little "tougher" than most individuals. His softer side is usually seen most around animals; as his mentor has instilled a love of them in him since he was a little kid. It's for this reason that some would say he prefers animals to humans, especially when someone considers everything he and his mom went through to get where they are today.
Above all else, however, Sam is a fiercely loyal individual. He puts his best foot forward to help any friend in need, and once you're a friend, well, you're a friend for life. As stated before, the boy is exceptionally brave and that lends to his inability to back down in the face of danger for the sake of those he loves. Though this sometimes (often) gets him in over his head.

History:
Sam doesn't know a whole lot about his past, or at least tries to forget it. His dad left when he was a baby, for parts unknown and didn't return. While his mom tried hard to make a home and a family in spite of never wanting to be a mother (unlike his father’s desire to be a dad), however, her problems in both her marriage and single parenting, quickly turned her to the bottle. A fact which only became worse as the depression hit and food, as well as money, failed to come around. Subjecting Sam to both severe abuse and neglect, it became clear that his life was hardly the fairy tale life most dreamed of. As a result, Sam found out from an early age that he had one person he could always rely on when no one else was there: himself.
Sam was forced to attempt to keep the family afloat as he grew old enough to do small odd jobs for people in his neighborhood as his mom was making mere pennies at hers He loved his mom in spite of her dislike of him, and did these small jobs starting at five years old to try to put food on the table. Of course, this was hardly enough for his mom to care too much. With things becoming worse and worse at home, leading Sam to slowly realize that despite all he did, it would never be enough
Sam was a little more prepared than most when his mom finally kicked him out and drank herself to death. At six years old, he was on the streets, scrounging by for food and money, while often doing odd jobs to keep himself alive. Everything seemed copasetic for a while, but eventually - Sam's luck ran out and he picked the wrong pocket. That pocket, it turned out, belonged to David Thatcher, a world-renowned researcher in the field of lions.
David took pity on the boy, however, and rather than turn him in, took him under his wing as an apprentice. Sam had a roof over his head, and a warm bed to sleep in for possibly the first time in his life. But from that point forward, a lot of time was spent traveling the country, and even the world with his new mentor. At the breakout of war, Sam and his mentor feared his conscription into combat, but were generally thankful to find that America didn't seem to be getting involved yet.
When the offer for the expedition, and the search for treasure came, David and Sam's interests were both piqued. Now having been under his mentor's wing for two years, it was to be Sam's first real test of knowledge and all he learned. It was supposed to be simple, help the rich man with the local wildlife. Show them the safest way to interact. It was supposed to be easy.
Sam soon found it was all but that, after the storm struck. Terrified, and believing they were going to die, Sam was stunned when David secured him with the only parachute they could find. When they were thrown from the plane, David wouldn't survive the crash, but against all odds, Sam survived - injured, and separated from the other survivors. Not knowing if he was the only one, Sam took the time to mourn his fallen mentor - but heard a voice in the back of his mind pushing him to survive and find a way home.
Stranded in the Savannah only miles from Pride Rock - his journey begins.
[EDITED 11/03/2022 for Necessity]
Found near death and starving near Pride Rock, Sam was nursed back to health under the watchful eye of Kiara, Kovu, and Rafiki while the king and queen were away. Sam reluctantly came out of his shell little-by-little but his presence was challenged when Simba returned with his own qualms about his arrival.
In time, however, he and Simba learned of their similar histories and much to Sam’s surprise - the king extended to him an invitation to stay. Not only in the Pridelands themselves, but as a member of his Pride. For the first time, Sam found himself asked to become a member of a family - and despite his fears he took it.
Now, he charts new territory: having more than just David to rely on, and who in turn will rely on him. But he knows at the end of the day - he owes the Pride his life. And he will do whatever it takes to protect it. Even if it means leaving his old life behind to begin a new one far from the place he once called “home”.
[EDITED 05/09/2023 For Major Events]
Sam learned what he could from the Pride, and earned himself a place among them. Not only growing a strong relationship with Simba, but to both his mother, Sarabi, and Kiara and Kovu as well. It was decided his integration into the Pride would be made official with a ceremony at a memorial he'd made to Mufasa himself - to thank the family. But a great earthquake revealed more behind the scenes: humans were once there, in the Pridelands. Was it a bad omen? Had his arrival caused something catastrophic.
Sam, fearful, prepared to leave in the middle of the night. Hoping to throw any heat off of his new friends. Something he knew how to do well over the years. But it was Simba who stopped him, and convinced him to stay. Not because he would be in danger, but because he belonged there - he was family. The one thing that Sam had searched for his whole life was found halfway across the world with a lion pride. With Simba's family.
Now officially a member of the family, Sam is restless to discover the truth behind his arrival there. Was it mere accident? Or has Mufasa put him here for a reason? His life is about to become only more complicated as he navigates these new revelations, and his new place as a son of the royal family.
