Kiara nodded at the comment. The whole pride would need to be told, his scent was all over the rock, which is why she stuck between him and the rest of the den. There was no way she was going to let him get hurt. This was her friend and she had the need to protect him. The hunting and patrolling parties would be back around sunset.
"Okay..." she said with a hint of a smile. Whether or not she believed it was an accident, she kept that to herself. When her father got mad, he would still never raise a paw to her or her brother at their age. It would be different when they got older, fights could happen, but she still believed he wouldn't do that unless it was really bad. Kion and her would have to go against the great circle to earn such physical fighting from her parents. It would have to be really bad.
"Well, you are safe here and no one is going to do that... Please, get some rest, Kovu," she pleaded gently to him and laid down, her head turned to look out towards the main den and in the area her mother or father would be. The rocks and cave gave many places for them to use for privacy. TAG: @kovu LOCATION: Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

Kovu sighed, he was smart enough to know that she didn't believe him, at least not fully. Though he understood why she wouldn't, at the same time. It was why he kept making a point of it. "Thank you." he smiled, and laid down, getting comfortable. "Mm." he grumbled, as he went back to his rest, a full sleep this time... early, but not too early for one so hurt, both in body and mind.

Kiara watched him with sad eyes as he laid his head down and drifted to sleep. How could her father be so cruel to a cub? To just force him back into that situation. Kovu was not evil! He was not his mother! That was like saying that her father was just like her grandfather. She had heard enough stories to know that Simba still had a lot of learning before he became anything like his own father.
Rafiki was kind enough to at least realize that Kovu was on evil. She laid her head on her paws and watched him before shifting her eyes in the direction her mother was likely to come from, if she came at all. Would her mother agree with her father? Would she force Kovu to be sent back to that cruel place? To be abused like he had been? TAG: @kovu, @nala LOCATION: Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

As she came up on the part of the cave where Kiara and Kovu were, Nala paused and took a moment to listen and smell. Not eavesdropping, but getting a feel of what was happening before entering.
Was Kiara ranting on her father? Though Nala didn't really expect she would do that to Kovu. Zira's son was asleep, as Rafiki had said, and Kiara near him.
Nala entered quietly, "Kiara?", she figured her daughter didn't need to be told why she was there, and would let her speak first before reminding her to respect her father.

Kiara had laid her head down, replaying everything over in her mind from the moment she spoke to Awoda. She had done everything like she was suppose to. She stuck to the path in the patrol, close enough to the border to see danger, far enough to get away. She strayed off the path to check on the birds, found the problem and assessed the situation before calling her father.
And yet he was mad the moment he arrived, especially when he saw Zovu. She clenched her claws against the ground. She was not sorry for the words she spoken. She didn't believe that Kovu was evil and he hated him all because of who his mother was. Kiara looked down at the ground, her eyes watching a line of ants heading away from a crack in the roack. Glancing up to the portion of sky she could see, she searched the clouds. "Oh grandfather Mufasa, what should I do?" She asked quietly, before the sound of her name reached her.
"Mom?" She stood, though carefully without making much noise and turned to her. Of course, her mother would come here to berate her about listening to her father, but she would just have to take it and stick to her gut. "Mom, I'm not going to let dad treat him harshly... He does not deserve that..." TAG: @nala, @kovu LOCATION: Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

Of course Kiara was defending and explaining from the moment Nala arrived; she hadn't expected differently, as she'd told Simba, Kiara was a lot like her father. Not truly in a bad way either.
"Alright", she reassured, "It's alright, no one's going to harm him, your father's just...", she broke off, not sure what to say and how to explain all that was behind Simba's harsh attitude. What she knew of even, though there were no doubt layers she didn't.
She moved on, and though she recalled Simba's words, she would lecture their daughter in her own way, and part of that was letting Kiara tell of what had happened while leaving those subtle 'Mom firmness' words in even the inquiry and by implication. "I hear there were some harsh words spoken on the way over?", the queen inquired as she walked over to where Kovu was asleep to check over him herself and the damages Rafiki had mentioned.
And Rafiki said Zira had been the one to inflict them?! In anger perhaps, but also...Nala wondered and didn't let it escape her there could be some play at work and Zira using her son for some purpose, even entering the Pride Lands after him. On her way over, she had told two lionesses she encountered to double check the perimeters, just in case.
Nala didn't imply, with her question, it was all one sided or who had said what, and let Kiara tell, but left clue in her words that she would be reminding Kiara to respect her father no matter what.

Kiara let out a sigh of relief at her mother's reassurance and watched as her mother checked on Kovu. Kiara trusted her mother around Kovu. She knew that she would harm anyone without a show of aggression. At her next question, Kiara glanced away and then nodded. "Yes, there were... I don't believe that just because of who Kovu's mother is, he is evil... I think dad is using Zira as an excuse to not even allow Kovu a chance to see what is going on..."
Kiara let her eyes rest upon Kovu and then back at her mother. "And I meant every word... I don't trust dad with the hatred he has for Zira." Kiara had grown up since her last encounter with Zira and Kovu and she had also been taught much wisdom from her father, her mother, and Rafiki. She did not want to make the mistake of using pure hatred to make a choice. "Just because Kovu is the son of Zira, he shouldn't be treated the way dad is set to treat him... I believe we should let him show us what kind of Lion he is, not what dad imagines him to be..." Which was the son of Scar. "Being related to someone does not make one evil... If that was the case, we would all be considered evil for being related to Scar." TAG: @nala, @kovu LOCATION: Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

Nala just observed, with a mother's knowing, as Kiara glanced aside and then back to her. Her smile was both fond and a bit sad. She agreed with the spirit of what Kiara was saying but as a young cub she expected the world to work with truth and honor...and unfortunately things were a bit more complicated most of the times.
She frowned worriedly though; Kiara not trusting her father was a whole other thing. Of course Kiara was headstrong and in the midst of huge emotions, it was possible she would settle some, still Nala knew she had to address it. She gathered her words as she let her daughter go on.
"All that you say is true, on Kovu not being evil for who his mother is nor Scar choosing him, and he will be given a chance to prove himself on his own merit, if I have any say in it", rather than harshly, this last came out with a small smile that told she knew she would be able to have some sway and say, before her look turned serious again.
"But Kiara, I want to be clear, I will have you respect your father, he means well even when he lets his emotions get in the way and he is still your father and king of the Pride Lands and beyond all that a good lion".
From her sitting position, Nala laid down on her stomach and motioned Kiara closer, "Come here", she gave her a nuzzle after she had, "You're going to understand some day the weight that ruling puts on one's shoulders, and unfortunately as future queen you're called to think of the Pride Lands as a whole even in times such as now".
This wasn't a true lecture, Nala was just speaking with and sharing with her daughter. She glanced at Kovu again, "It's appalling the way Zira has treated her own son". None would deny that, "and I will do all I can to protect him, but...Kiara I have doubled the patrols at the border, and it bears thinking of that all of this is a ploy to use her son to get access to us, so we must tread carefully and see all sides as we proceed, for the good of all".
This was a lot and heavy, and Nala hated that her daughter had to ponder it all so young, but as future queen it was important she saw how things were rarely ever black and white now.

Kiara was not going to backdown from her choice of protecting Kovu from her father. At her mother's words, she felt a flood of relief and did move aside to allow her mother to look at the cub. He was only a little older than her, but not by much. At her words about her father, Kiara turned away and growled a little before she paced.
"I will respect him, but I won't back down from protecting someone else who clearly needs protecting from him," she said in a slightly hardened voice. Kiara had seen the hatred form on her father's face the moment he saw the young lion's form behind her, laying on the ground. "You weren't there when I was... The hatred on father's face... I was clear... Had his eyes been able to kill, Kovu would have been," she said in clear disgust of the way her father had acted.
As her mother laid down, she contemplated about laying down beside her mother and she did, after a moment of hesitation. Kovu was still close enough, if he awoke, she could attend to him. At her mother's words, she looked at Kovu... "I won't allow my hatred for someone affect the way I treat or speak about a young cub who has no choice," she said in defiance, but kept her voice level and as calm as she could. At her mention about the patrols, she could looked at Kovu, worried that what if this was a trick by Zira...
No, if it was, Kovu likely had no idea about it and Zira was using him. Kovu deserved as much protection from Zira as the rest of the Pride. "I won't let dad send him back... If Zira is using him that way, I don't believe Kovu would know what is going on... Those injuries are severe... He could have died..." And that caused an even tighter grab at her heart, one that caused a tear to slip down the cheek that faced away from Nala. TAG: @nala, @kovu LOCATION: Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

The lion cub stirred, groaning and become alert, the pain in his gut meant that rest wouldn't be a nice, deep sleep, but more of being in and out of it, at the least during the day he would have something to do besides recover, and this motivated his eyes to open. He smelled another presence, it smelled like Kiara, it looked like Kiara... but bigger. Her mom.
"Talking about me?" he responded, having heard at most her last sentence, "N-Nala right? N-nice to meet you..." he looked at her, he honestly hadn't heard much of her, if he had then he may very well fear her as much as Simba or more. He looked around after he spoke.

One small eyebrow raise was all the reaction Nala gave to Kiara's small growl of most likely annoyance as she spoke and then listened to Kiara's response. The emotions were all so very high right now, Nala knew she and Simba could only push Kiara so far at the moment and maybe a day or so was needed between "lectures".
"No you're right" she said in that soft, reasonably way of hers, "But I was there when we met Kovu and...do you not remember your father's mercy when Zira all but gave her son up to him? The look then?".
They should have known! Nala recalled once more Zira's taunt and smirk. Had Simba attacked Kovu, she would have only reacted in the way that best suited forwarding her plans.
Yet recalling their den guest, Nala glanced towards Kovu once more. No need bringing that up if the cub could still hear her.
She as about to point out again to Kiara the complexity of their position by way of just gently asking then what would she have them do, when the cub stirred. Nala stood slowly so as to not appear threatening and walked over.
Simba would have something to say for the familiar address, but thankfully he was not here, and perhaps Kovu didn't know fully on the Pride Land Royals. She nodded, "Yes, I am Kiara's mother, Queen Nala. It's nice to officially meet you Kovu. How are you feeling?".
She didn't want to bombard him with questions so took one at a time. Her maternal instincts did go out to this cub though, who only knew the worst sorts of lionesses thus far. Yet this was also nothing like Kabili in any way and they couldn't just take Zira's son from her. They would figure out what to do, she was sure, and probably have to ask Rafiki once more.

The memory of her young childhood was brought back and she looked over at Kovu as he slept as peacefully as possible. The memory still burned in her dreams, meeting that awful lioness called Zira and seeing the fear in the eyes of Kovu. She always thought he was a little scared during that moment, but maybe she read it wrong? "I remember, but I also remember him growling at Kovu too when she said he was chosen by Scar... A cub... Who had no choice in that matter and didn't even know who Scar was," Kiara countered as she remember the moment well herself.
The voice of Kovu made her look up sharply and she rushed to his side in concern. At his words, she smiled slightly at him and gave a light hearted chuckle. "Your ears must have been burning," she said as she lowered herself down to where her eyes were level with his own. Kiara gave a look of annoyance at the correct of Queen, though brushed it away as she returned her concerned look to Kovu. Like they needed to really care about the whole Queen title with all of this going on. TAG: @kovu, @nala LOCATION: Pride Rock in the Pride Lands COMMENTS: ^_^

Kovu was unsure about Nala's words about Simba... but he could at least trust that she was of a compassionate sort, and maybe she wouldn't be entirely against him?
"I am feeling... o-okay." he answered. "Not as bad as I was when the princess found me." he smiled as he looked at her, happy to be talking to royalty in such a familiar way, and not quite picking up on the titles or corrections.
"Heh... you don't have to lie." he answered, but didn't elaborate at first. "Kiara, uh, princess... I hate to..." he frowned. "I... i won't tell you what to do but... you see where arguing with my mom got me." he gestured to his gut. "I know... I know how much trouble I am. I was hoping to find someone else... really... I trust you but... I'm scared..." he put on a brave face, at least.
"I just need to... get better, then I'll be out of your hair... I can only... imagine how worried mother is." she was always more confident, but did she consider that Simba might off him...?

Kiara was probably just going to get more annoyed if she pushed the issue, and Nala recalled that she had already had some of this discussion with her father. She let it go for the moment, and as Kovu roused.
Nala nodded at Kovu's answer on how he was feeling. "It's lucky she did", she answered to Kovu's comment on Kiara finding him. Despite...everything, Nala felt they could all agree on that. She looked just motherly intrigued as Kovu mentioned lying...what did she not know?
Kovu, of all lions, advocated against Kiara arguing with her and Simba (as she heard it). Nala gave a small smile, before it hindered a bit with the truth behind the 'jest'. Kiara thought Simba harsh, but at least he was only harsh in words. Again, how could Zira? She scanned over Kovu's injuries once more.
"Who were you hoping to find?", Nala gently asked. She wasn't interrogating the cub, but it was probably useful information to know what Zira was doing. Though maybe who Kovu wanted to find had nothing to do with that also.
