This Lion Guard business was certainly not a walk in the savannah. In the past Fuli had more of a live and let live situation with the Pridelands. Live off the land, take what she needed and otherwise keep her pawprints small. No point in needlessly upsetting other animals.
The Lion Guard was a bit different. Fuli didn't lack empathy, she was all in favor of helping when it was convenient. But this line of work mandated she go out of her way to seek out problems that needed solving, which was cutting into her schedule quite a bit. Not to the point where she'd want to drop out of the Guard, but just enough to annoy her.
On this particular day, Fuli's activities had left her pelt quite a bit ruffed up. Her fur was messy, swept out in some places and flat in others. And the cheetah mane-scruff on the back of her neck was sticking out in random directions like leaves blowing in the wind. That was the least of her concerns though, as she lowered her head to the watering hole to take a sip. Perhaps a drink would calm her nerves.

Zuri had made her way to the watering hole, quickly ditching her mother as with every day, though rather than her usual rounds, she instead noticed a lone cheetah. One she had seen Kion with here and there, but she hadn't put two and two together yet. She was more interested in putting claw and tree together!
Thinking herself sly at first, she found a spot where she could drink and also look at Fuli, taking a few small laps of water. Yes, the cheetah looked terrible! It had to be Kion that was such a bad influence, Zuri could hardly stand to look at her as she approached. "Fuli, right?" She said in a displeased tone, stern even. "Can I have a word- what's that on your shoulder?" she asked, keeping her tone but not asking what she had originally planned to.

The water was cool and refreshing, as was the serene silence. Until Fuli heard some pawsteps behind her, followed by a somewhat annoying female voice. A few feet to her left, looking right at her, was a rather young lioness. Oh boy. So she knew her name, and noticed the little mark on her shoulder. Oh boy, this was going to be great. "No, I don't know a Fuli," she said quickly, hoping to avoid a confrontation. "Oh, that? It's a... birthmark." Her head didn't once lift from the watering hole as she spoke.

Zuri rolled her eyes, "I can smell Kion all over you." she claimed, she had only heard of his friends here and there, and passed by them at times, prior to today. "Besides who else would look so... un-kempt!" she said the word as if it was the most horrible thing. She put her paw in the water, "You would look rather nice if you took care of this fur." she shook it some, then brought her paw toward the cheetah. "Hold still." she scoffed.

Fuli did her best not to pay attention to the lioness, but the more she spoke the more Fuli realized how unavoidable a confrontation was. She seemed to know a lot about Fuli, and wasn't willing to let go of the idea that her... pelt was messy? The cheetah caught some movement out of the corner of her eye, and swiftly darted away from the lioness cub. "Hey, back off! Why do you care so much how I look?" she demanded angrily.

A confrontation it was. "Ugh, I don't care about you. I'm a friend of Kiara, so I know that mark means you work for her brother." she said, putting her paw to just above the ground to not get it dirty, curled under her. "How you look represents us lions. It's his guard, but maybe his dad would be a little less mad if you looked nice, instead of like a mangy hyena." she smirked.

As the lioness spoke, Fuli slowly backpedaled away from her. Oh boy, this lion sure had a thick skull. Lions lion lions lions lions, that was all that was coming out of her mouth. Hang on, she already knew she was in the Guard? This was getting complicated. Whatever this lady wanted, it's be hard to leave without giving it to her. A few feet away from the cub, Fuli stopped moving and scoffed. "Why are you lions so self-absorbed? I don't care what Simba thinks of my appearance. I don't think he even knows I exist," she said with audible anger.

"I hope not!" Zuri replied, exasperated. "You may not but, like Kion respects his dad. The king." she looked Fuli in the eyes. "So when word really spreads? When certain people hear there's a cheetah with no care at all for appearences?" she paused. "And worst of all when Kiara says that her best friend graciously offered that cheetah some help, she was rudely informed that Fuli doesn't care what Simba thinks?" she glared, turning to a smug, no worse than smug grin.
"Accept my help, or else. Kay?" this lioness cub had wickedness about her, that was for sure.

Fuli growled in frustration. That tongue slip was really costing her this argument now. As annoying as this prissy jerk was, she wasn't dumb. And it was really getting her mad. "FINE!" she snapped, fury in her eyes. "Just shut up already!" Reluctantly, Fuli sat down on her haunches, raised her front right paw, and began licking. A very quick grooming wouldn't hurt. But a VERY QUICK ONE only, this wasn't a high priority. For her, at least.

Zuri's smug grin turned to a wince, "Stop. You're only going to ruin your fur that way." she said, "You need to take your time, ugh, no wonder you look so terrible if you can't groom." she scoffed, moving to lay down next to Fuli. "I am not leaving your side until you groom it right, and trust me, I can be very unpleasant to be around."

Fuli scowled at the lion cub. This was how she usually groomed, and if this jerk had a problem with that that then it was her problem. "Well then how should I do it? If you're such an expert on grooming, then please, impart on me that knowledge," she said with an eye roll. How would one way of grooming be better than another anyways? It wasn't hard to lick yourself.

Zuri smiled, "Thanks for asking." she said, knowing that Fuli didn't mean it, but she couldn't pass up taking it as an invitation. "Slowly." she repeated, "Especially when you don't do it for a while. Do it every day and it's not a hassle, in fact it can be relaxing, do it when you wear yourself out, hm?" she said, attitude for sure, but helpfulness. "You will miss less, and get a more even look, if you go in long rows. Not too long, you don't want a fur-ball." she imparted her wisdom.

Fuli scoffed at this advice. How could anyone spend this much time grooming themselves? Who even had that kind of time? Well, for a start, it would have to be someone without anything better to do... "Figures that a lion of all creatures would dedicate so much time to grooming herself. Gotta keep up that appearance after all," she said, malice in her voice. Looking back to her paw, she forced herself to groom more slowly this time. Every second of it was agonizing, but the sooner this tiny brat was out of her sight, the better.

Zuri kept a satisfied grin, she didn't mean to torture Fuli, but she was definitely doing a great job. "You can learn a lot from lions. That's what we're here for, to be the guides to other animals." she said, "Where else would you learn pride, than from a pride?" she giggled.
Zuri let Fuli groom herself, properly now, "We'll work on that tone of yours later, right now it's about how you look, not how you act and talk... which is equally ugly..."

Fuli was now officially seeing red. Not only was this lion a lazy, prissy jerk, she was proud of it. "Guide other animals? Learn from lions? Well then..." The cheetah rose to her feet and made several aggressively long strides towards the cub. She'd officially snapped. Fuli couldn't physically harm her, of course. The Lion Guard wasn't supposed to attack lions. But her verbal assault would be just as furious. "Let's hear all that wisdom you've got stored up in that massive head of yours, shall we?! Tell me all that important stuff you know! Let's let's hear about how you hunt your own food! Let's hear about all the hyenas you've fought just to try and keep your meal! Let's hear you tell me how you distinguish footprints, and track animal scents! Let's hear about your running technique! Let's hear how hungry you were after living on one meal a day for three months! Let's hear how you survived on your own for most of your life!" She stopped, her nose touching the lion's. Her eyes were narrowed into slits. "I guess I expected no less from a species that lives in literal prides."
