Kabili snorted at the mention of not messing with him.
That was true, since he was learning to fight slowly too. He wouldn’t let Njaa know that he could defend himself well enough though. Sometimes ignorance was the best way to handle things. Though he watched and listened to him very closely as he said what he did. So he’d just found ruins? That was... Strange. Just how far out was this place that no one had noticed it before?
All the same he wasn’t too afraid of this whole situation. Though he did agree with Tara on one thing... “Yeah I have to concur about furbrains,” he noted. “But I’m interested to see what you actually found.”
After a long pause he finally nodded. “I’ll follow your lead. But it’s like Fuli said. No funny business,” he explained honestly. “Lead on.”
Moving closer to Fuli, he decided to add in a low voice. Quiet enough that he hopefully wouldn’t hear. “I don’t think we should take or touch anything weird in there without going to dad about it first,” he told her and Tara quietly. “We still don’t know what to expect from what the people of Zion left behind.”

Njja growled at the jackal. "I put my snout wherever I want to, firbrain. Im the boss!" And he snapped once more towards the jackal! But as soon as his authority was recognized, he seemed to calm down and turn his attention away from Bandit. After all, as long as he was being obeyed, Njaa didn't care if he was being followed by hyenas, monkeys, jackals, lions or... or even girls!
"I guess there just weren't any other lions hehehahaHAHAHAIHI!" The hyena laughed as Fuli sounded proud of being the first girl and first cheetah in the Lion Guard. A grin spread across his face as she said the word boss... but he didn't seem threatened by her. Most hyenas would be running by now, but not Njaa. If he stood up to hyena girls, he could stand up to a cheetah. No problem.
Speaking about girls... thay human girl was getting to his nerves. But in a good way. Of course she defied him but, unlike Fuli or the human boy, she didn't try to sound better than him, or at least thats how he interpreted her. "Eh? No one ever complained 'bout furbrain. Whatcha have in mind?" He asked. Was he hearing a girls opinion? Hyenas would know girls were smarter, even if Njaa would never admit that. "The only way we're getting to the ruins is if everyone sticks to me and obey, gotcha? Don't leave no furbrain behind" and he turned to the girl once more "Or ehh...?" He waited for whatever her suggestion was.
"Funny business?" He snapped at the human boy "Just cuz Ima hyena? Ya speakin' lika lion already!" He said as if it was a great insult.
The hyena grumbled something as he heard the boy whispering something... but he got to a conclusion. Was it jsut to create confusion, to humiliate the 'prince' or to poke fun at the guard member? Or did he actually think it was a good idea? No way to know "Tara her's second in charge from now on!"
They kept walking. The grassy ground was replaced by rocky flatlands, and soon by just desert-like rock. They were entering the Putlands. The air was drier, and those with strong senses of smell would notice the whole place was full of strong unknown scents. Especially Jackals and... of course, Hyenas. "What do you humans even wanna know about this Zion place anyways? I lived mah whole life here and nevah cared about it. Didn't even know dah name." And he added "Or ya Pridelanders... or you eh... where'ya from again?" He asked Bandit.

Bandit blinked at Njaa's threats, "Got it boss, but so they say your freedom to-" as he looked at Fuli, "W-wait hold on a moment? I though the Lion Guard was gone cause the boss died?" he looked at Fuli "And I was pretty sure ma said it was lions only and he was pretty sure on his choices... plus yer like a kitten!" he got sidetracked quite far.
He blinked when Tara was declared second in charge, but before he answered he was asked a question! "Oh me? Well I'm just here looking for allies for Rabia, so I means... Whatever you royal fools want to do I'm down! And well I was born over there." he pointed to the Pridelands, "But yeah the whole..." the jackal took a deep breath, "EXILE!" he shouted at the top of his lungs, right in Njaa's face. "-Thing happened!" he gave a big, goofy grin. He was definitely trolling.

The cheetah made note of Tara's potential weapon, and of Njaa's decision, and of Bandit's comment. Between her being Njaa's new bestie, her spear-or whatever it was-hidden in her pocket, and her being a human, she was naturally suspicious of Tara. She decided to keep an eye on that human, just in case, but kept on walking. She was also more than a little offended by Bandit's comment. "I'm no lion, but I'm not a kitten either," she said assertively. "And I'm not that big, but my claws can still cut."
As the grass turned to stone, Fuli became increasingly alert. The hyena seemed to be quite nonchalant about this whole thing. But nothing had gone wrong so far, so better to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. "To put things simply, Simba wanted the Lion Guard on this little mission, and he didn't want Kion getting killed in the Outlands," she explained to Njaa. "So it's my job."

Tara whispered back lowly, "Oh don't worry, I have read enough stories...", Comic or otherwise, "...where people instantly explode to know not to touch anything in a maybe cursed temple". Again, not that she thought it would be all that cursed, but caution was advisable.
She hadn't expected to actually be glanced to for if she had a suggestion of better in down-putting 'furbrain' as a group tag. She tried to not look too caught off guard but thought. ”Uh, well, how about Team or something, since we are”, she said, yet glancing to Bili for his thoughts, and deferring to his judgement as prince and all. She acclimated quickly and him being a lion prince was...well it was still odd, but she was mostly used to it by now.
If Kabili wanted to be the main one to answer the question on what they wanted from Zion, Tara would let him go ahead, and actually wasn't sure how much they should tell, but added her own beginning explanation. "Well, and I assume this is what the King and Bili are interested in too, for me personally, other than exploring a cool temple, past that see if any of the stories are true", she shrugged casually.
There was a lot more to it than that, and "seeing if the stories were true", to her, meant seeing what was there to be prepared for if they should worry over the adults, but she kept that to herself for the moment in case it would be bad to share with just every hesitant alliance of the Pride Lands.

Kabili wanted to sock this guy.
But he tried to keep his cool all the same, he knew Simba would want him to. And it meant a lot to him that he acted in a way that represented his father, rather than just.. Let his greater emotions get the better of him. “I’m not judging you based on being a hyena. I don’t know you, I don’t know why you’re doing this;” he explained. “I’m allowed to be weary. Especially after everything I’ve learned about what happened in the past.”
He didn’t exactly argue with Tara being second in command though.
Taking a deep breath, he didn’t really comment on the team thing. But he would co-operate. After all, he was not a cruel person. But as Njaa asked him why he wanted to find Zion he felt a bit of a sting. His eyes moved to Tara and Fuli who he assumed knew what his answer was.
“My mom - my biological mom died wanting to find Zion. Now I want to find it, so she didn’t die for a lost cause,” he said very honestly. There was no point hiding it when two of his friends were here. “For everyone who died trying to find it.”

Njaa closes one eye as his ears were waved back by the powerful.... scream the jackal let out a solid inch from his snout. He had one or two drops of jackal saliva on his snout not. Thanks, he hated it. "If you keep screaming like that, we are gonna be surrounded by jackals in no time, mutt" He said with a growl but a much more... decent tone? He wasn't making fun of Bandit this time, he was simply stating something that he seemed pretty confident of being true. "Or other hyenas. So shut up, 'lright?"
Njaa answered Fuli as they walked, without even turning to her, His facial expression hidden but his voice brought the same seriousness "So ya're here because you are expendadible, eh?" And a good ten seconds of silence "That ain't right, this king of yours had grubs up his nose, cuz no one should be like that." Was he agreeing with Fuli? Apparently, now that he couldn't be fun by pushing others down, he was less aggressive.
"I sure hope dah stories about cursed stuff aren't true!" Njaa added to answer the human girl. "Team? Eh... I'm still the boss." He huffed and kept marching on. That is until Kabili spoke up his reason. The hyena stopped. He looked around. The terrain had changed to some kind of canyon, a ravine that left their flanks protected but also helped with ambushes. The hyenas were very familiar with that. It was rather tall! Njaa turned to the human prince, looking him dead in the eyes "My mom got pushed off a cliff by..." He growled "Some stupid girl in front of me" Eyes deflected from Kabili's "I ripped her through open once I was old enough." The hyena turned around and kept walking in a much more silent pace "It helps. Maybe this Zion thing will help ya too."

Bandit gave Njaa a dumb smile, "Yeah... yeah. But c'mon, I'm one of the toughest jackals around, besides jackals ain't fighters. And you's the boss of hyenas ain't ya? Or are ya scared they are going to screw it up?" He tilted his head questioningly.
"Oh yeah! Team is better than fur-brain or stooge, yeah. But whatever Tara likes!" he said, but he picked up on Fuli and Njaa's little conversation. "Well I mean, I'm sure it ain't like that." he frowned, "He's Mufasa's kid! He'd never teach his son stuff like that, heck he'd kill his own brother if he tried to." he chuckled.
Bandit was saddened by the sad stories that were being shared, "Oof..." he shivered, "So that's why you're queen then? To take your ma's place." he smiled, "Rabia we kind of followed the Lion's lead, so ma goes out and steals while dad rules at home." he hrmed. "Why do you think you're fit to be in charge? I mean, dad is always asking me that, and himself..." he felt sharing some insecurity could be bonding.

As the journey dragged on, Fuli became more and more on edge, especially in the canyon. This place was giving her a sinking gut feeling that something was going to go wrong any second now.
"Oh yeah, royals are entitled and uptight. Well, most of 'em. Kion and Kabili, they're alright. But I'm not just gonna say that to Simba, he's miffed as it is about me being on the Lion Guard." She huffed. "I won't lie, those lions don't make life all too easy. But where else would I live, this volcanically active barren wasteland? I'm not just gonna abandon my home, especially now that I've got a job protecting it." True, the entitled pricks took cheetah kills and harassed the species sometimes, but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. As the saying goes, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Fuli watched the tops of the cliffs intently, her eyes darting back to Njaa and Tara every so often. If she could help it, nobody was going to die on this trip. She wasn't as shook by Njaa's backstory as the others, though. Blood ties weren't all that important to her, and from the looks of things, the hyena wasn't all too shaken up by the experience.

Tara knew she was getting a bit (maybe more) defensive with just Njaa's abrasiveness, and reminded herself to not let it go too far. It was a bit hard when they still didn't know if they could fully trust the hyena. Kabili was a lot more open about his reasons for wanting to see Zion.
If she hadn't know directly, she had...guessed.
Was honoring her own father part of this? Maybe, in a less direct way, perhaps, so maybe she had been truthful when she guardedly said she was just interested in the stories. She glanced to the ground and her feet as they walked and she took in Bili's words, pushing past her own memories of her father telling her to strap in to the small seat in the cockpit after she'd gone back up to just watch him pilot before everything went wrong seemingly all of a sudden.
"Whatever's there, it won't be...a lost cause I mean" she reassured gently. For either of them, and even if she couldn't really know.
The jackal was odd, but...a good odd? Amusing at least. She felt like asking Kabili if he was always like this, but maybe he wouldn't know.
She actually took her own advice and just rolled her eyes, but with a small smirk as Njaa stated he was still the boss, "For the sake of not having this discussion the entire trip, fine".
Tara did not expect Njaa to share on the death of his mother, but blinked in surprise as he did. No wonder he kind of didn't like females maybe, given she felt he'd directed a lot at her and Fuli specifically maybe.
She wasn't sure about his coping mechanism.

He was of course not exactly happy about how everyone seemed to be annoyed with the monarchy. So he immediately spoke up, very open and honest. "Dad does a lot of good, and has done a lot of good for this place though. He does his best," He explained. It was true, and honestly that was all he could ask of him in his opinion. "Sometimes you have to remember it's not all that easy being a royal either."
Kabili... Was not expecting that response about his mom though.
Honestly, he kind of stood there in dumbfounded silence when Njaa had said it. He'd actually taken revenge on the person who killed his mom? Well, Kabili might have to, if it were a tangible person, but the thought that he was so blunt and honest about it made him shift a little with discomfort. Then came the mention of cursed objects, and honestly, he didn't really want to know what he meant there either.
Either way, he gave a soft frown in response. "I'm uh... Sorry about your mom. That sounds pretty awful," He admitted. Then added. "I can kind of relate. Mine fell from the sky..." There was more, but he wasn't ready to talk about that. That was for damn sure. "So what's this about "cursed" items?"

It was not easy being royal? Hah! Easing good food all day, strolling through the greener parts of the savannah as everyone let go of whatever they are doing just to bow to you? Yes, tough life! Njaa would surely prefer to almost start weekly, having to gnaw on bones to continue alive!
"Your mom fell form the sky, mine fell from a rock." Njaa said with a small chuckle, a dark, dark chuckle. Yeah, he certainly did not want to keep discussing that stuff, and Tara gave him the perfect exit. "Daaaamn right I am." He stomped his front paw hard down to the ground as they walked in the outlands. He turned back, trying to bring others to a stop to once more bring attention to his own importance. He gave a half-circle around the group to make sure they were paying attention, so he was on the path they had already walked.
"I am the boss, and you, team, are my pack, gotcha?" His voice was low enough that it did not echo in the canyon, but strong enough it sounded like he was trying to get something out of his throat. "This means we have to stick together, but we can't let anyone slow us down" He turned to the jackal with a Sargent-growl "No one. If we have to, leave them behind. But if you don't have to, we are brothers!" And half a second of delay there "... and sisters" He said almost as if it was a dirty word, but he got it out. Still getting used to girls being around.
But his ears turned forward and he looked up.
"WATCHOUT!" And he simply pounced forward, going hard against Kabili who was in the centre of the group, to push him forward and on the ground, away... Away from what?? A crack gave away the large boulder falling forwards the group!

Bandit nodded along as Kabili brought up the difficulties of royalty and leadership, and picked up on Njaa not seeming to respect it, based on his pride of it. He blinked at the growl "'Ey now, I won't slow nobody down! 's not me who stopped for a huddle, I mean is a good idea but still." he argued.
Thinking on his comments a bit more, he said "'Ey you see it kind of like A-", cut off by Njaa's shouting! "AAH! he exclaimed, jumping back the same direction that Kabili had been pushed, and looked up, "Duck and cover! Arf!" he shouted in the moments the boulder landed, and after.
"What the kuzimu?!" the jackal exclaimed! "Where did that come from? Everyone alright?!" he asked as he waited for the dust of the impact to settle.

Fuli was a little touched, and more than a little caught off-guard by Njaa's friendliness. But there wasn't much time to dwell on that as the giant rock came crashing down!
Her eyes darted to the noise, and she saw the big boulder come crashing down. An ambush? Most likely. The cheetah dashed forwards, seemingly teleporting two dozen feet forwards out of the way, and prepared herself for combat. "Whoever just tried to kill us, you're a mouse-brained piece of vulture food and you'd be wise to never look in my general direction again!" she shouted up at the cliff. Better safe than sorry.

Though she didn't want to admit she thought there might be something to it, Tara listened to the talk on Cursed items also. They had to know after all, right? Though Njaa didn't really give an answer. That was fine, maybe the animals around here didn't really know anyway.
She couldn't deny her first thought was of some sort of trap as the hyena shouted out a watch out command, but other noise proved something was up. She dove out of the way herself, glancing around the settling dust to see how everyone else had fared as well. Had...Njaa just...saved Bili?
Well he probably did fear what King Simba would do if anything happened to his new son, though Tara also suspected that may not be all and maybe the hyena wasn't as fully tough as he let on.
Tara didn't think of anyone specifically trying to harm them, until Fuli yelled up at the cliff.
"Wait you think someone did that on...purpose...nah it probably just...fell", she didn't sound convinced herself, but only because the other other thought in her head was Curse.
