The hyena did not look happy. It was late afternoon... They were supposed to leave early morning, but some of them were late. Namely, Njaa. But he had reasons to be unhappy: He was int he Pridelands, he was not eating anything, and he was... kind of striking a deal with the king. He was to take some Pridelanders, or otherwise people approved by the king, into the outlands to help explore the ruins of Zion he found. His eyes first went to the jackal, @bandit . Of course, no animals were worst than a lion, but Jackals were pretty close in this rank. Especially this.... complete outsider, who he had never seen before. He surely didn't live in the Outlands, which might be a good thing. Then, eyes went straight to the two humans, Samwel Igwe and @tara. Just by the narrowing of his eyes, he was certain to express how little he trusted in those naked monkeys. But honestly, did he really trust anyone? The last one was the cheetah, Fuli . What was a lone cheetah doing here? He still had zero idea why a cat like that would have any interest in Zion, but surprisingly she was the... Only actual Pridelander he got in the group. "Do I really gotta bring all'f them?" His annoyed voice was visible as he asked the king. They stood right in front of the Priderock. Njaa might be the first hyena to do so during Simba's reign, a historic mment for sure.

Bandit stood, looking at the team that had assembled, he recognized Kabili... and so he stood up straight, and proud. He clearly was the muscle of the group, not that this was some kind of Hyena Guard. He was pleased at least that Kabili would see him in action, and work with him... all according to plan.
He did raise his paw to his ear to scratch at it, "Ah, ah... Hey now. Mufasa's son picked the team out so ya know it's gotta be good." he declared, "Sure is weird working with pups like ya'll though." he noted.

Fuli rolled her eyes. Outlanders. A whole bunch of 'em. Well, this would be good. Pride Rock was a lot bigger up close. And so was the king. And Njaa, well, he was about the same size as she expected. However, one figure caught her eye. Another figure that looked quite similar to Kabili, who just so happened to be there as well. Another human perhaps? It certainly seemed that way. "Hey, you, I don't think we've met," she called to the human. "Who are you? I thought Kabili was the only human here."

They were finally doing this...
Well sort of, but the reason for the expedition here that had cost her and Kabili so much. Zion. They were going to see what it was all about, only instead of trailing at the back of a group of the adults (with her father still here making low comments about the participants and how much nonsense this probably was, but just as excited as any of them, and to get her to laugh) Tara was going with Sam now called Kabili and a group of animals picked by King Simba, some of which were surprising.
She was still learning Pride Lands politics as it were, though finding that odd monkey, Rafiki, that Zazu had mentioned had helped a bit. Though he had been very odd, but a good odd, and seemed to see more than you might think at first.
Tara was brought out of her thoughts a bit first by the hyena and then more so by the cheetah addressing her. She smiled and, replacing her pack she'd been checking for supplies on her back, walked closer, "Hey", she greeted back, "No, the crash stranded me also and...there's probably still others of us at the base camp or wherever. The adults", it was best to warn, and since they might be around. "I'm Tara. Tara Walker and you can call me either of those names". Though most people did stick with her first name.
She supposed she didn't next have to ask anything else, but went on, as she would to any peer and used to the animals, somewhat, by now. "So, you excited to see what's there?". What did the animals think of the place? She knew what she and Kabili expected, for the most part, and even if off rumor.

Kabili didn’t like this.
If he didn’t want to find Zion in his mom’s memory he definitely would have seen all the red flags. Well more red flags than he already did. He didn’t know which stood out more, the fact that his Njaa was a Hyena, or the fact that Bandit was there but he was on high alert.
As a representative of King Simba he had to carry himself a certain way though, including biting his tongue. He did slightly narrow his eyes when he asked if he had to escort them all. Taking a step out from beside the king in this case to mention.
“And as the son of King Simba I’m not about to let this party go on without me,” he said to add upon Bandit’s sentiments. He crossed his arms and tilted his head. “If we find anything someone needs to make sure they’re representing the royal family after all.”
He wouldn’t state his own, personal reasons for it. Since again, his trust was shaky at best. So that worked as an affirmation he was going,

Simba looked down over the assembled group, it was a strange collection, and he wasn't exactly excited to be have his son and his female friend as part of it, but they had made their points. This is what brought them here, of course. He took a deep breath, and looked Njaa in the eyes. "Do you have a problem with my selection? Remember your place here, Njaa, you have our cooperation because of what you offer us..."
He was not pleased that this hyena was receiving the honor, instead of one more deserving, one that had learned the error of their ways. "I would tell you their qualifications, but you will see them for yourself." he said. He tried to avoid keeping his gaze on anyone but Njaa too long. "Remember everyone, Njaa is in charge as long as he... behaves." he stared Njaa down, "Best of luck, and stay safe." he struck a royal pose while Njaa led them off.

Remember his place? The hyena let out a low growl... He did like to hear that. His place was at the top! Not because he was born a female, not because he had a furry shield around his neck and not because he was the son of someone important. He was doing his part to deserve being at the top... Soon, soon. But right now he knew better than to go against the mighty lion king.
However, the hyena was more than eager to get out of there as fast as possible, so he just gave the lion a half-hearted bow and a huff, before turning away. "Ya heard dah man, I'm 'n charge here. now get movin', That gonna be a long walk!" Or at least he could get that lion out of his face with all his majesty and whatever else made him special.
He would not wait for the group, like a... good leader? He only stopped to make sure they were walking when they were already out of earshot from the Priderock.
"Son? Ya're a human, he's a lion." Njaa answered "I don't know what he told ya, kid. but he's lion!" followed by historical laughter from the hyena. Oh, that joke was great. The laugh sounded... creepy, even scary. With a hint of vile.
"Who are ya calling a pup, Jacks?" the hyena snapped at the older jackal "I'm a hyena, and I don't care if ya have a paw on the graveyard or somethin', but I'm in charge here. Got it?"
His eyes rolled as he heard the female human cub speak. She sounded... exited. At least this should make it easy for the hyena. "And I thought one was enough" he answered in an annoyed tone to what the cheetah said. "And ya're part of the Lion Guard, eh?" And a grin towards her "Glad seein' ya again. Just make sure ya remember what the king guy said, ''right? I'm in charge here."
Alright! We will now be entering a strict turn order! It will follow the post order for the first round: Njaa Bandit Fuli Tara Kabili

Bandit followed Njaa, looking like he also he wasn't paying attention to the group, in fact when Njaa stoppedfir a chat he continued right on into him! Oof!
Despite the hyena's attitude, Bandit just smiled "Nah I don't mean nothin' by it. Species means nothin' to me, a boss is a boss." He gave a goofy smile, stupid-looking even. It endeared others to him. He was subtle about his approval of Kabili with that.
"I'm older than his highness but not by much. And hey, I heard Simba got adopted by a meerkat! Love sure does know no bound, huh?"

"Nice to meet you, Tara. I'm Fuli!" said the cheetah, with a welcoming smile. Although it was a bit unsettling that the humans she'd seen so far were only juveniles.
She wasn't one bit too happy about taking orders from Njaa, especially after their run-in the other day. But, being on the Lion Guard, she wasn't about to refuse the king's orders. Still, that didn't mean she had to like it. "Oh, stuff it. I could end you at any time and you know it, so don't give me another reason to," she snapped at him.
Fuli walked impatiently behind the others. Whatever this ancient ruin thingy was, it sounded very interesting, and perhaps significant to her life. And of course, the whole rest of the Pride Lands. What an exciting first week on the Lion Guard it was.

Tara of course had the luxury of feeling more comfortable about the whole thing than Bili. One she wasn't a member of the royal lion family with any diplomatic responsibility and also...she supposed if pressed, she would admit she didn't expect anything to really be there. Not of the importance the others seemed to think. Some artifacts or something but even with the animals ability at speech she couldn't imagine it was linked and there was any kind of bad magic or anything.
Sure, her father, an exceptionally good pilot had crashed over this area specifically, but...flying was hard in some conditions even for the best.
Tara took in that the others felt a bit more seriously about it though by just the tension of their almost bickering perhaps. She covered a chuckle as Fuli snapped back at 'their leader'. How had the hyena ended up in charge? He provided one useful bit of information, though. "Oh I heard about their Lion Guard, you're on it?", she shot Fuli a smile, "Well that's good, I was afraid something like that would be an all male thing and we can't have that". Tara would advocate for other strong females anywhere any species.
She caught enough of the politics to know that each 'group', with them, Hyena, Jackal, and Pride Lands perhaps, just didn't want the others to find whatever this was without them also knowing. So maybe not so different than if the expedition members were going and she knew now to count them out just yet.

Kabili nodded as his father began to talk.
He was of course aware of how nervous his dad probably was that he was going. He’d pretty much kept him to only the Pridelands since he came other than sneaking in the Elephant Graveyard. But the human prince was hardly afraid since he was hardly the human who had first set foot there. He was ready, or so he told himself.
When the hyena decided to take a jab at him? Well he wasn’t impressed. At all. “Yuck it up all you want Njaa. But I was adopted in the eyes of the Pridelands and the Kings,” he relied firmly, not about to be made a fool out of. “And I can promise you won’t be laughing if something happens to me and you find out the hard way.”
He did seem a tad surprised by how Bandit seemed to speak up in his defense. Even mentioning Simba and Timon. “It’s true. Actually a lot of people are adopted in my family,” he said rather honestly. “But it’s not his fault he’s ignorant to it. Hyenas tend to stick in their packs. So I don’t necessarily blame him for not understanding what it’s like to care about someone not his species.”

"Hey! Watch were ya walk!" He turned around to quite literally snaps teeth one inch from the jackal. Njaa was clearly not playing around. "Like I said" Njaa answered the canine "Very close to the graveyard. Just remember I'ma in charge here and we'll be good."
His eyes narrowed at the cheetah "Oh yeah? I could take you down right now, spotty." A low growl seasoned his voice "But not today. Today we gotta thing to do." He took that time they were stopping to establish dominance? And explain the plan "Now listen up, furbrains. This is the plan."
"We're gonna go tot he outlands, but not by the usual entrance, alwight? There's this new territory I... found," clearly there was more to that, but he didn't seem to focus on it "and I found some ruins on there. I think that's the Zion city you humans are looking for. We gotta go in there, and then we can like, explore it or something. The place is a maze, can't trust my hyenas with it..." Eyes narrowed, running from he jackal all the way to the human girl "But ya are dispensable. I'll make sure ya are safe, ya have my word-" Of course there was a bit "In my territory. There I rule. But int he ruins? I have no idea what's inside. We're also gonna go through some unclaimed territory. I don't know what we can find, so be prepared. I can't save all'f your hides by myself. Are you ready to go, boys?" He was used to an... all male hyena pack "And... girls? Ya're gonna be my pack for the day. I need y'all to agree with that before we move. This means" He turned to Fuli "I'ma your boss, not that annoying lion cub." He turned to the human boy "And ya're listening to me, not the king. Gotcha?"

At the Hyena's bite, Bandit jumped! ...but a few seconds after, was his brain running slow or something? "'ey! You watch where ya lead." he scoffed, "And where you put that thing." he added, pointing with his paw at Njaa's snout.
He nodded at the announcement of the plan. "Yeah, can't trust most 'yenas with nothin'. Always mean or dumb with 'em, at least its never both! No offense of course, Njaa, I bet you heard everything about ya 'yenas"
He smiled, "Ooh 'yenas have packs too? Do ya have ya know, alphas and betas and omegas, or is it more like an alpha and a buncha stooges?" he waved his paw around in the air, before giving Njaa dumb grin. "Don't matter to me though, I'm with ya!" he nodded with his tongue hanging out... he was definitely getting, or acting, dumber by the minute.

The spotted cat wasn't sure what to make of Tara. She wanted to agree with her, being female and all. But at the same time, it sounded a bit... weird. "Yeah, well, it was all male until I showed up. And I also happen to be the first cheetah," she announced, especially proud of that "first cheetah" part.
Fuli scowled at Njaa. Every past interaction they had was hostile, and this one was getting up there. Half of her wanted to lay him out right then and there to show everyone who was really boss. But the other half didn't want to upset the already fragile balance of this "team." But it would be so satisfying...
"All right, I'll go with you. You're the boss now," she growled. "But don't forget that if you so much as look at us wrong, you've got the Lion Guard to deal with. Understood?" she prompted, stepping forwards, her head raised in defiance. She was still about on eye-level with him, of course, but she wouldn't let that stop her from being intimidating.

"That is something", Tara agreed with Fuli about also shaking up the species make up of the Lion Guard.
Kabili was slowly speaking with more pride than she'd heard from him before, however briefly, and coming into his role as a member of the royal family it seemed. Which was odd in its own way and as he slowly integrated more with the animals. Sure Zazu had called her an Honorary Bird, but she took it as the first aviators giving her their blessing in a sense, not literal.
Anyway she gave a small smile as he put the hyena in his place. "Yeah I wouldn't mess with a human-lion prince". She didn't think the one contradicted the other.
"I can't decide if the leadership is worse or better". she whispered to Kabili when she was walking by him as they moved along and meaning the surprise hyena vs. her expectation of possibly MacHenry leading the Expedition.
It was clear the hyena did view himself as in charge, though. His long speech proving that even further. Tara crossed her arms and listened. "Yeah maybe in some ways you're in charge, and it's your known territory for most of it, as you say", she wouldn't contradict the role King Simba had given him, but recalled she was still the Expedition's Main Pilot's daughter and in his absence maybe it was her job to make sure the Expedition didn't forget their place but also, in as far as it stretched, the animals.
She nodded as he mentioned Zion, "Sounds about right", she admitted. Sure her own father's research had brought up little to nothing.
"Oh and can we talk about a less insulting group nickname than furbrain, 'cause I will not be answering to that", she grinned good-humored but let him go on.
"Don't worry I'm prepared for at least some self preservation", she pat a pocket but didn't reveal with her weapon of choice was as that would be tipping her hand, as it were and she didn't trust the hyena far enough for that. No one else did either, it seemed.
"Looks like you've got a tentative truce of the moment", she answered with a shrug.
