"I see...". Nala thought over how Kabili explained what his set of humans at least believed on the matter. While it would seem an easy answer, Nala wasn't sure how she felt about the concept of an eternal punishment for Scar...
Of course a small part of her couldn't be too sorry at the idea but...was that wrong? Not befitting a queen? "Well...if any are there, Scar would count...though perhaps I should be setting a better example and not saying such things". Nala wanted to be open with her kids, but there was also too open and sharing her inner doubts when her children were too young. Yet, Kabili wasn't, she realized. It was odd, he was her newest son so she kept thinking of him as younger than Kiara and Kion, but he was no doubt older. At that mid-way age.
Good thing that didn't confuse the Line of Ascension!
The Pride Landers would accept a lot, but she didn't think a human king was in that list, and, more important, knew Kabili didn't want such either. "Well if you know two languages, you know more than I did when I became queen", Nala smiled to her son and shared.

Kabili nodded slowly, he knew what she said was honest. After all, she had some duties as queen as it was didn't she? Wishing harm on people definitely wasn't on her list, or so he'd think. But at the same time, he had done such awful things to her and her family that he didn't blame her for thinking it either. "It's OK, mom. I mean, I think we're old enough that we form our own opinion in some way too," He admitted honestly. "Least I think. I'm pretty sure I'm a little older than Kion and a little younger than Kiara... Mentally I mean. I won't go into how old I actually am." He knew that would blow a lion's mind.
He laughed, sure that most people only knew their native language. After all, he didn't know a ton of bilingual people. "I mean that makes sense," He explained. "For me I had to learn. It's a thing in my religion. There's a thing called a bar mitzpha. I had to go up and read from the language and everything. It was pretty crazy."

There was a tendency for children to be what Nala would call too easy on their parents; to not think too badly of them, especially when young. Though she wouldn't recall too often the distinction of Kabili coming in to their family so recently, and after Kiara and Kion, since it hardly mattered and he was now as much her son as Kion, it also helped alleviate this worry a bit.
If any of her children would tell her she was wrong, or allude to it, Kabili was the most likely to perhaps, being able to see past her status as his mother a bit. And yet he didn't. "Thank-you Kabili", she smiled, chuckling as he explained a bit more on his age.
It did help further. She and Simba had had to sort of guess off cues of his behavior. "Ah ok, about middle, that does help, thank-you. You and your friend, Tara, are so far the only humans I personally have seen. The same for your father I believe, we were having to go off of how old you acted and...that might not have been fair of young ones in your past situations". Meaning when they had both no doubt been trying to act brave and make the best of their being stranded before finding guardians each.
Though she didn't want to overly remind of that, of either of their past situations, Kabili and her being here in honor of his birth mother aside.
She was interested to learn all her son wished to share on his past life, not feeling like her and Simba's completely taking him in meant they couldn't also share that, as they were even here. "I see, and what was the point of this bar mitzpha?", she asked.
It sounded a bit like attending the formal funeral of an animal group and knowing their language for the purpose of further honoring, something that as king and queen she and Simba would be called upon to attend when it happened.

Kabili only smiled a little.
He was busy carving away when he listened to what Nala had to say about how they were going off his age. That was honestly fair, they couldn’t be sure how his kind aged. “Well, humans age slower than lions. So in your terms I’d be pretty old,” he explained with a chuckle. “But if I were an actual lion. I’d just be starting to enter my “adolescence” at least that’s what my mom used to say. I only figure Kion’s a bit younger for the same reason. I seem to skew more toward Kiara’s interests and maturity level.”
Honestly they’d probably never actually know. But it was better to have some idea.
Oh! What did a bar mitzphq mean? Well it meant a lot of things. “It was my culture… Or really religion’s way of signifying when you became a “man”,” he then explained. “Not necessarily an adult. But like when you start to take on more responsibility… Grow into yourself. It’s very symbolic and we all do it if we’re in my religion.”
Finally finishing - he sighed setting his knife aside. “I think that should do it…” he muttered.

Nala nodded again, taking in what else Kabili offered in terms of explaining his age. She and Simba would probably never fully grasp it, but they could go off best guess and no doubt Kabili would let them know when he was an adult, which thankfully he said wouldn't be for a while.
'Ah, sort of like a first hunt also, though really we mark both a first guided hunt, such as you and Kiara have both had, and then your first solo hunt. Kion may have his own set of things I suspect"*. She spoke vaguely same as she would to Kion himself or Kiara, leaving it to Simba to tell Kion of the guard first.
As Kabili finished up, Nala walked up to take a look. Even if she couldn't read the words she...got a sense to their meaning, or that many scratches in a stone just giving off the intended somber purpose. She smiled sadly and gave Kabili a tiny nuzzle to communicate what didn't feel right in spoken word.
{*nearest I can figure the timing of this thread anyway it seems the Guard is just getting set up. Will change if not}

Huh. He hadn’t thought about that.
He supposed it was a lot like how they handled their first hunts. At least in the Pridelands culture. And it was another way that Kabili felt like their cultures were more similar than they were different sometimes. “Honestly, yeah. It is a lot like that,” he explained. “There’s a lot of other things too, honestly. There’s a lot of cool parts of Jewish culture.”
But baby steps… Of course he still had to explain that he was Jewish at all and what that meant. Though he sort of just had. His thoughts were interrupted by the nuzzle however - which just as she assumed did speak volumes. “I’m… I’m just glad that she won’t be forgotten,” he smiled though it was tinged with sadness. “Some part of her will actually be in the Pridelands, y’know?”
After a long moment he was able to finally say. “Thanks for doing this with me. I honestly don’t think I’d have had the nerve without you or dad around,” he explained. “But I already feel a lot better.”

Nala was understanding more and more, she felt, and as Kabili explained. Humans weren't all one culture the way Elephants and even Lions were, but all of that variety seemed spread out among them. Nala nodded again. "Well I'd love to hear anything you have to share on your culture's background".
And coming from her son, it sounded more interesting than even what she had to learn on Crocodile and other cultures of the Pride Lands.
"It's fitting", Nala agreed, next adding to that and answering Kabili's thanks for her coming with him "Of course, your father and I are here for you, but we don't want you to ever forget her either. This was a sombre sort of good for me too, to feel...in some way I have her blessing". And hopefully Nala wasn't just making up that feeling for really wanting it.
