It wasn't that Yun Mibu didn't understand the concept that he and Tara couldn't just enter the Pride Lands solely on Prince Kabili's word and all would be good, no further questions needing to be asked.
He had every intention of running his entrance by the King and Queen, and proper channels.
It was also just nerve-wracking for a solitary clouded leopard, who was used to making friends but not to meeting larger cat royalty; and more of his dedication to this and ensuring Tara was still watched out for was shown in his agreeing to sit at the base of Pride Rock after word had been sent and await the king's approach so they could discuss the necessary things, of course. Such as checking that his staying wouldn't interrupt the ecosystem, but thankfully, as he'd told Prince Kabili, his small prey and bird diet wasn't likely to interfere with the pride's herds and step on any toes.

As Simba approached, he moved his mane to have the wind blow majestically through it. His eyes were focused, trained on the strange leopard. He moved one paw in front of the other, nice and slow, just as a meeting should be. It was just one leopard, but he did not want casual meetings like that with Bandit to become the norm.
"Yun Mibu." he said, with authority, and a long enough pause that the leopard could confirm this was his name, and notice he was being addressed. He had gotten the name when word was sent, after all. "What is your purpose coming into the Pridelands?" he asked very formally. He stopped his approach about six feet away, far enough neither had to look too much down or up to meet each other's eyes.

Yun Mibu glanced up at the king as he approached, but not directly or in anything that would be seen as a challenging manner. He nodded, "Yes Sir, uh Sire", he answered to his name and corrected the title to more proper perhaps before answering the question put to him honestly.
"Well Your Majesty, I found one of the other humans, about the age of the one I believe is your son, and his friend, out in the Backlands shortly after the crash and have been watching out for her". He could say in a sort of uncle or older brother position, except he and Tara hadn't discussed how permanent it was, like with Kabili, and she was still figuring out her own plans, or perhaps avoiding hard questions still.
"She has been reunited with Kabili and...so I still stay close when she's in the Pride Lands, not that I don't know she's safe, it's just...she still stays with me, when night falls and all, so I stay close".
That was about the long and short of it.

Simba nodded, pleased but remaining official with the leopard. He nodded with understanding. "I appreciate your help" he said, official but polite, he knew neither the human or what he had done for her, of course. He could offer further gratitude once he knew, naturally.
He visibly had mixed feelings about what Yun Mibu. "We have taken him in. We can consider where she could live." he said, starting with the official word. "It sounds as though you have a relationship, her trust to keep her safe presently." he said. "We can take over that, and you would not have reason to stay." he said, almost a warning.
He frowned some, "We do not allow new predators into our kingdom easily." he said the word firmly. "Especially complete foreigners..." he said, "I have many questions, you will be scrutinized if I permit you to continue helping Kabili's friend. I would recommend having other plans ready." he tried to be stern with his warnings, and do as much as he could to promote other means.

The king gave his own gratitude for the help Yun Mibu had provided, if officially only, but the clouded leopard hardly expected more and if he hadn't yet met Tara perhaps. He nodded, and might have spoken plainly on how it was hard to just pass by either of the two humans in need, and as the king had taken in Kabili officially even he no doubt understood; but the leopard was still feeling out the situation, and as Bandit had warned him, gratitude or no, strangers were a large issue in the Pride Lands.
He wasn't directly kicked out, probably for his role, but he was also not promised anything.
Fair, perhaps. Yun Mibu was too small and timid of a cat to argue it with a lion king at any rate and much as any boldness he had in the situation was for Tara's sake. "Of course, I understand, and will of course go with whatever you say and whatever ends up best for her. Your son is proof that the humans find good care here", or the kids who weren't trouble. "Um, and I'll answer whatever you wish to know". He only still remained because the king had sid he might have questions.

Simba nodded along, "That is good to hear, you will respect my decision." he said both as confirming Yun Mibu's words, and declaring such, not intending to leave Yun Mibu room for appealing his decision.
"We both only have the best for her in mind, and addressing any issues with allowing you in." he informed before moving on to his first question. "You are a leopard. What is you relation with the other leopards? Who are your friends and enemies among our neighbors, both leopard and otherwise? and..." he thought a moment of how to address his color, "Are you from beyond our existing leopard territory?" that was what he really wanted to know after all.

Honestly Yun Mibu was mostly glad the king wasn't kicking Tara out, and his whole goal had been to get her to help, if not her own kind again, even just being in the Pride Lands was better than the unclaimed territory, he knew, where other predators weren't monitored.
Mainly the king wanted to know who he was and about his kind, no surprise. "Well Sire, I have only really run into one or two other leopards, of the bigger and yellow kind you no doubt mean. Clouded Leopards, we...share the name, but live more in forests and of all the leopards are the best climbers". That wasn't bragging it was just true.
Friend's and allies. "Not many from around here...I didn't catch the name of the other two leopards I saw briefly, though your son warned me about Makucha and I haven't met him, and am more...nomadic than aligned with the other leopards. Friends...a few Backland's foxes and various other Clouded Leopards. I avoid actively interacting with the Red Pandas as...well it gets awkward", and as they were prey. He painted the picture of the creatures he came into contact with the most. "I haven't met anyone from the Outlands".
He nodded as Simba asked if he lived beyond the leopard territory. "Quite far, and in caring for Tara, I've moved very far indeed. She felt this was a good direction to move in", as Kabili had it sounded like, so maybe the Kings of the Past had been involved in that too, in a smaller way. "My territory is a bit nearer the Tree of Life, though not inside of course and only the sick and injured pass in that way".
Lions who kept their own territory was nothing new and in fact the Pride Lands could be said to be more open than Queen Janna's own lands.

Simba nodded slowly, making quite visible that he was listening and thinking. He opted for a rather, aggressive interview process, at least with Yun Mibu. He really did not like introducing predators, that much was clear.
"Uh huh." he said in response to the claim of being the best climbers, he didn't seem impressed by that at all, but said nothing clearly.
"Stay away from Makucha." he said shortly, it was clear the order would apply regardless, and disobedience would make a quick enemy of the timid clouded leopard. He hrmed. "Unfortunately you lack any... prior relations, then. This puts the question of loyalty in jeopardy." he said, sternly. Things weren't looking so well for Yun Mibu right now.
"I will judge you by your own merit and character." he proclaimed, "Our friends, the prey, will have their lives cut short by your presence. You must have a place here, beyond caring for Tara. You must respect everyone, and learn our customs, and earn their respect in kind by your actions. Are you capable?"

The king didn't sound impressed by his climbing claim, but then it didn't really matter to Yun Mibu if he believed him or not; or he wouldn't challenge it and a grown lion either-way. He tilted his head curiously as it was stated that his lack of allies actually worked against him. Oh, well, he hadn't known how official kingdoms like the Pride Lands worked.
Yet he was given the promise to be judged by his own merit, and that was about all he could ask for, and he did understand the hesitancy of a new predator, smaller stature though he was. "Thankyou your Majesty", he gave another dip of his head, "and yes, I lived by a fair code of conduct to all prey back before and will add in Circle of LIfe specific", he couldn't imagine it was anything to new to just the fair policy the good animals of the Backlands held, if less officially than the Circle of Life.
He also felt like reassuring that the giraffes, zebras and such had nothing to fear from him, they would win any encounters if he was foolish enough to start any, but the king obviously didn't exactly give off amiable if he did give off fair, so Yun Mibu decided not to push his luck.

Simba watched Yun Mibu intently, the tilting of the clouded leopard's head made sense with his claims so far. "Very good, I am sure it is not far from our beliefs." he said, trying to be accepting. It was very much about appearance, if he insulted Yun Mibu's ways then it would impact more than the clouded leopard himself. "Respect for prey is the important thing."
"Loyalty. You don't have any friends from around here. That will make both fitting in more difficult, and leaving more attractive." he hrmed. He looked Yun Mibu in the eyes. "For the sake of loyalty, and that it seems to be the strongest use of your qualities." he declared. "I will give you entry into my kingdom, under certain conditions, in addition to the normal expectations we have." he did his best to not make them sound childish.
"You will make friends among the predators and prey." he started. "When I see you at the watering hole, I don't want to see the others scared of you or you scared of them." he said, explaining the functional reason. "I can't speak for how open they will be... but we will discuss if a problem comes up." he said, to assure Yun Mibu that if it wasn't his fault he wouldn't be punished.
"Where it comes to hunting..." he started, "What do your kind eat? I will decide what, when, and where you hunt. Or even if I permit you to hunt." he said, adding the last on just to remind him his authority.

Yun Mibu continued to just listen and nod where needed. Since arriving he'd made no secret of the fact that Tara was his draw to the Pride Lands and reason he now stayed, or was seeking a sort of allowance of his presence.
King Simba was almost just clarifying. Yun Mibu nodded.
Making friends shouldn't be a problem for him. "Yes Sire, I'm not in the habit of making trouble", he assured. Quite the opposite. He was tempted to mention that if any of the larger predators growled at him there was likely to be a problem, but not by aggression from him, yet maybe it was something he could just work on and there was no need to sound too timid in front of the king.
"Back home it was lots of the smaller prey. Red Panda, the occasional Gibbon or other small monkeys. I know other Clouded Leopards who have gone after Boars but I avoid them myself and as long as things aren't dire. They can be tenacious. Your larger prey like Zebra and Giraffe needn't worry over me". The Hyraxes would maybe and, as he said, mostly their smaller prey, and he could work around it if the king didn't permit him to hunt.
Since Yun Mibu liked to avoid trouble, he thought through any other things that maybe needed brought forward now, "As for territories though I don't need an official one...we clouded leopards live mostly in the forests and I will be honest where you would be most likely to find me would be the more shaded groves of trees so I would have to make sure I didn't run out someone from their territory in hanging in one".

Simba nodded, "I'm inclined to believe you." he responded to the assurances of this leopard's peacefulness, increasingly it was his value. "Hrm... I will have to talk to the monkeys then." he hummed. "There is a task for you. I understand if it is difficult but you will have to browse the prey and decide if they are on your menu." he informed. "You understand those that work for the royal family are off the menu." he said, in a way that would inform him if he did not know.
"It is most important you make friends with those you will be eating from." he said, it simply was the way things were done. "You will be permitted to hunt only after you complete this task and have learned proper etiquette. Until then you will be hunted for." he explained.
He thought a moment on territory, "You must have a home, Yun Mibu. I understand you don't want to take more than you need, but how can you call it home if you don't have a place you are entitled to?" he asked rhetroically. "How often would your friends visit you if they had to search every tree and bother others to find you?" he questioned. "You need a home that you can all yours. If you choose to share it, it must be with only one or two others, and it must be yours equally."

Yun Mibu nodded, giving a small smile of relief as the king said he was inclined to believe him on his non-antagonizing ways. He was not looking forward to making and informing of a list of what was and wasn't prey, but also understood the need there as well.
"Oh yes, Sire, of course", he completely got that he shouldn't eat friends of the Royal Family and would get with them on who those individuals were.
Making friends with Prey was something he already attempted, awkward as it could be, but he also got the need there; especially in a formal boundary like the Pride Lands, where animals expected to feel safe, they needed to know what to expect from predators and fearing a new one would just randomly snatch up their children vs. knowing he would only go after the old or such helped.
"Yes Sir, I'll try to complete that task quickly then, don't want to be a burden", he nodded as the king said once he'd made friends with the prey he would be free to hunt for himself.
He was allowed to pick a grove of trees. Well that was good. "Is there a grove you would suggest I start with? That is unclaimed for sure?". The king didn't have to escort him there, but he did also want to obey the boundaries and territories of others.

Simba nodded as Yun Mibu understood, "This is not a race." he said sternly, You will be more of a burden if the Lion Guard have to settle problems later." he said. "Do things right the first time, and you will not have to fix problems later. Understood?"
He hrmed, and thought to clarify his wording. "Once you know who will be on your menu, you will inform me, however I may have my son help you with the next step." he thought of Kiara but was a bit more protective of her.
Simba opened his mouth as if to answer, but then closed it to think, then started again. "It would be wise to talk to them yourself. While I am happy to talk to you or any of my subjects, it is their leaders job to speak for them and represent them, and it will serve you well to be familiar with them instead of with me." he informed.

He might have messed up, or the king was just being proactive (probably the last) but King Simba made it clear he was not to race it and his acclimating. He nodded again to show he understood, "Yes Sire". He also didn't state he wouldn't cause trouble. It was hard to know about reactions ahead of time and he knew his actions would speak the most to that.
The king's son? Well as long as he wasn't a growler they should get along. Of course he didn't know yet how young of a cub the king meant.
He nodded again to the plan and clarification of speaking with the herd leaders. "Of course". He would start on that now, but...
"Um, would you prefer I wait on your son's escort to start that, Sire?", he asked wanting to still continue by the king's rules.
