As Zazu spoke of the space in the air, Tara glanced around to it, and the sky, "Yes, I suppose you're right", she said, before answering his earlier question. "More so in the last few years, yes, or since I've been born and grown, those Fourteen years and with the war...but, it's not with animals. There are more planes, like the one Sa-Kabili and I came in, I don't guess you saw it?", she asked, and in thinking back to those days, almost tagged Kabili with his old name.
It was so odd to think of the two of them back then, just kids excited for an adventure; so much seemed to have happened since then.
"My plan was to learn to fly one of those too, but...the one we had is currently...broken".
And if it was never unbroken, gliders were all well and good for her, but would not help the others get away. Or her and the others. She had a feeling the more she did things like this, meeting Zazu and getting a place in his grove, it was going to complicate her own answer when and if the time came.
But...no, she wasn't planning to go all Tarzan in the Jungle Savannah like Kabili...was she? Well, even staying in the wilds, one didn't have to go full Tarzan, Jane had mixed civilization and her surroundings, like Tara planned to, with a tree-house, if she did decide that's what she was going to do.
Tara reminded herself that Zazu had not been asking for a rant in asking what befit a Proper Young Lady, as most of those around her would title it, so kept to the answer itself, minimal personal frustration thrown in. The war had given more opportunities to women, but that didn't mean it made things like working in a factory (or being a pilot) fully accepted. It was seen as a war sacrifice for the time being.
"Sewing and Painting for fun. Nothing that would get you dirty or ruin your dress. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of the house, which are important, don't get me wrong, but...many of the adults back home think that's all females should do and...well I guess it's the opposite of a lion pride", she realized as a way to explain it. "The males hunt and the females...aren't even allowed to think about hunting, only when a lot of the men were fighting, in the war, women had to go work and fly planes and stuff, but we're not supposed to normally".
She wasn't sure if everything of the set up, and technology, would make sense to Zazu but tried to explain it in a way he could follow.
They made their way closer down and Tara worked at angling and adjusting the glider for landing. She could do this...
The tree was a bit tricky, but she managed, though she of course had to still aim for the ground. Hmm...she would work at learning to land near or in the branches...
Once landed, she glanced up to find Zazu facing her from his branch. She smiled.

The hornbill rolled his eyes, he didn't say it but it was obvious he felt he was always right, but he shook his head in response to the question about the plane. "Ah yes that, I must admit I didn't see the plane, it is difficult to see the unexpected." he muttered some, he didn't seem to take it personally, but would rather not talk about that, and so he was more than happy to talk about other topics.
"Trust me, you will get there. Learn your glider first, ma'am." he said, shaking his head in disappointment as Tara shared the kind of ladies she was with, he didn't bring up the words he didn't understand right away, instead focusing on the sentiment. "Now see here." he said sternly, "If you learn anything from your time here in the Pridelands, it's that those ladies were wrong." his eyes met with Tara's, "These are elders you should certainly not respect! Controlling what you do for fun?" he shook his head.
"Sewing, cooking? What are these, and what is a dress?" he asked, "I imagine it's exclusively for women? Disgraceful!"

He hadn't seen the plane, it seemed none of the animals had seen the plane, or none she'd talked to. Not a good or bad thing, just a fact. Still Tara only thought about it all as much as she had to, not liking to dwell on the crash even if it hadn't ruined getting back up in the sky for her.
She chuckled at the unexpected comment. "But I would think that would make you notice it more", she smiled, but didn't really criticize, was just stating.
He really thought she could get there! From a bird that was so encouraging, and speaking of encouraging, he had more!
The neighbors and those aunts she was avoiding going back to all thought the way she had described, and despite coming off as 'an English Butler', Zazu did not agree with them! Called them wrong in fact! While she'd argued as much herself, while still trying to remain polite, hearing him agree when he knew little to nothing of their culture and just from an intuitive standpoint, as it were, was encouraging.
Though she got the idea that he was not above controlling fun in his own way...
Tara grinned and saluted, "Yes, sir!". She was liking this bird more and more. Good thing if they were going to be neighbors.
Cooking wasn't hard to describe, but how to describe dresses? "Um, cooking is...heating up our food with fire so we can eat it". In its most basic sense anyway. "Dresses are a very impractical style of clothing", she grimaced, "Instead of these, which are pants", she indicated to the pants she wore that were still holding up fairly well thanks to being made for such, "They...poof out and generally get in the way".
She assumed, with Kabili going more Tarzan style as he himself said, that he knew what clothing was by now, but realized that was an assumption. "Though if I'm being fair, cooking and sewing are useful to know out here" Tara admitted, "It's just...the ladies back home saying that was all I could do bothered me"

Happiness, real happiness filled the stuffy hornbill as he watched Tara's own at his comments, he would feel pity if not for how well she took in his words, and that she was far from those dreadful women. Sometimes it was right to so bluntly call something out, and this most certainly was such a time. It did make for fine neighbors if they got along so well. He would be brought out of his elated mood by her explanations, but he remained happy, most certainly.
"Uh huh... I never figured there would be an art to scorched food, but then again I eat grubs." he said dismissively, though he could still cook said grubs. "Insects, if you are not familiar with the term." he clarified. He cared less for dresses, but he was pleased that she was happy to explain anything he asked about, a fine quality to have.
"Few skills are not worth learning, really." he said, "Our sewing is surely savage by your standards, but useful at times. I would talk to Rafiki or Timon about that, perhaps." he suggested, they came to mind both for weird things and for things that required hands. "I highly recommend you learn our ways, Tara. Where you come from women are treated poorly. More poorly than we treat even our enemies, at times anyway. I encourage you to learn what being a woman is from the pride, or even a cheetah if you can chase one down." he chuckled, "If anyone treats you with such indignity here, I will certainly give them an earful."

Zazu seemed to be able to follow her explanation on cooking well enough, but then maybe Kabili had shown him some already. She...assumed he still cooked his food anyway, would probably get sick and only have the monkey doctor everyone spoke about if not.
Zazu's words on scorched food made her chuckle pleasantly again. Anyone she'd asked had talked of Zazu's stuffiness first, but his wit was something also. "Well, that's the trick, to hit the middle and not keep it raw or cook it too long".
It did bring up a point though, "Yeah I've already had to, but am going to have to think more so about what I'll eat long term too, and since my candy bar rations are all but gone...might be mainly fruit I don't think I could bring myself to eat a bug, and I mean I grew up on a farm but animals here are different. In a good way", she added in case that sounded like an insult.
"You sew?", she asked interestedly, then realized that nest building was basically the same thing. Kabili's birth mom, Mrs. Irons as Tara had always thought of her since meeting her on this trip, had come to learn about animals as well as Sam/Kabili. Her father had just taken a job, though he had been mildly curious and she was along for the general adventure of it all, the temple and jungle included.
She got more of the last than she had bargained for and didn't know she would also get more of the first along with it.
Tara smiled again at his encouragement, "Thanks Zazu! I've already spoken to Queen Nala, briefly, and...she seems like she wouldn't mind answering other random questions of mine", Tara's smile grew. She also might just take him up on speaking to Rafiki, and maybe just to see this monkey everyone had spoken of.

Zazu shook his head, "Circle of Life, young madam." he said almost scolding, "Fruit is well and good for some animals, but you humans have different needs. Meat providing some of them." he said, how he knew that he wasn't volunteering it seemed, but his words were spoken confidently.
"Yes, you haven't shared what animals are like." he noted, he wasn't sure how he felt about hearing about what his presumably dumber 'cousins' were like, but they could be smart in their own ways...
He answered her with an eye-roll, "I, myself do not have the ability. What with the wings, and the big beak." he put said wings to his beak as he said so. "Some birds do, monkeys. Ask them if you wish, but that is not really my area of knowledge."
He was pleased that things with Nala were going well. "She's an excellent role model." he said proudly. "Feel free to ask her, or to relay your questions through me if you need." he offered.

Tara smiled again even as Zazu's tone implied 'getting on to her'. "Oh yeah, I've heard about the Circle of Life in my time here. The...balancing of everything", she tried to explain it and in the way she had understood it thus far, leaving it open for Zazu to correct if that wasn't quite right.
She nodded, "Yeah...though I'm committed to keeping some civilization about me, like clothes and a tree house, I guess I will have to learn hunting of some kind". Yun Mibu could help, but it was a bit daunting just in that Tara didn't know yet if she would be able to kill something.
Odd for a farm girl who had seen chickens and such killed, but it was different here somehow.
Speaking of which, he asked about animals where she came from. Tara thought a moment about how best to reply. "Well, I know Kabili comes from the city and so that's more...squished in with less animals around but he still knows about horses and dogs and cats and such", but she would leave it to Bili to explain on his own end.
"I grew up in more open spaces, and not just so my dad could fly those big planes like the one that brought us here", Tara moved quickly from mention of her father, "There were horses, which...are like zebra's but without stripes. Mostly just all brown or black or grey. Some...speckled. They pulled loads that we couldn't. Our companion or friend animals were dogs, uh I think you have dogs here, wild one's I've heard, but these were...probably nicer than what you would say those were and cuter. Little cats too, adults still only the size of a cub".
Zazu backed up speaking to Queen Nala as a sort of female role model around here. Tara figured she could do either the queen directly (since she had already spoken to her) or through Zazu. "Thanks Zazu, you know, you're very swell, uh in the good way, though you are also fancy" she smiled. She liked him was the point, and was glad to have him as a neighbor.

Zazu smiled, "Talk to her son, Kion, for more about the Circle of Life, as he is the protector and it is rather his job, if he's not adept at explaining, he very well could use practice with explaining and answering any questions." he said, either way he would be pleased to point her to him. "Clothes..." he noted what she wore, ""That er... It's not unheard of, maybe more the territory of fellow primates? I presume you are distantly related... Ask around, and I will too." he could only promise so much! "I take it you won't be asking for dresses, so I hope your style is more your own or ours."
Zazu understood horses well enough, same category as zebras, there were plenty of creatures that were close in such ways. Her statement on what they did was intriguing, but he understood it, only left to wonder what it looked like. "Jackals, and other canines yes." he noted. "Cats that are always small... hrm, that's new. Not... too hard to fathom, like meerkats and weasels and the like." some mammals simply stayed small.
The hornbill chuckled, "Hard to find words to describe that you like having me around? It's usually the liking me that's hard." he admitted, "Fancy? I am at a loss to your meaning?"

Tara nodded as she was given more info on the Royal Family, though Zazu's intent had been to help her with who to talk to regarding the Circle of Life. Still, and if the only other human forming relationships with the animals, Kabili as he was going by now, was a prince, it might be well to recall the Royal Family correctly so as to not embarrass either of them.
"Right, the other prince, and...then there's Princess Kiara who's the oldest...well I'm not sure that Kabili's not technically older, but I leave that to the king and queen to work that out. Just in recalling everyone. There's Kiara, Kion and of course Kabili...oh I get it now, the K was on purpose", she grinned and added this last sort of to herself.
Though she doubted the little monkeys she saw in the trees would be much help, she didn't say so. She'd figure it out one way or another. "Depends who you ask back home, but we share the most similar DNA far as anyone can tell yes".
Meerkats and Weasels was a good comparison, "Yeah, some people even have weasels also".
Oh she'd confused him with Fancy. "Um, Sophisticated, not Sloppy" she tried to add better words to the good parts of what she'd meant. Pompous too, yes, but not exactly and Tara hadn't exactly meant that. "And yes, I do. I...can see where others might get annoyed but maybe since I always let the comments I don't like roll off I'm just not bothered by...if you're opinionated, and opinionated is not a bad thing".
