Zazu could tell he had a good rapport going with Tara, or he would have a lot more to say about the description. "...Poison Gas?" he questioned. "We er, have used gas as a weapon here, but... ahem." it was clear he meant flatulence. He seemed to understand it worked the same. "Yes... but keeping air out is different." he noted, trying to sound intelligent.
"I would not want to discourage you, but even us birds have our altitude limits." he wondered if she didn't know, and assumed so. "Eagles fly the highest, you may ask them about that too." he said, at least that he could remember they were.
He let out a heavy sigh, "It... makes sense coming off of a war. It is a matter of perception, I am sure. In time you might be just as appalled at our history." he said, while recent history was far better, they had their own past. "You seem quite an inventive species, for good or ill, as far as I have gathered." he tried to spin it positively. "It may be that we are not so different, aside from what these inventions grant you."

The misuse of the word gas did not occur to Tara. Maybe once she met Pumbaa she would rethink, but using literal gas was not something it occurred to her to expect animals to do. So, while she was curious how they could have used gas as a weapon here, she didn't ask, for the moment.
He pointed out even birds had altitude limits. That made sense. She nodded. "Yeah, maybe I should see what the Eagles have to say about it also".
She nodded as he alluded their history wasn't all roses either. "Yeah, I heard you have to avoid some leopards and the Outlands", she answered, "but that's really all I know". She wasn't sure if coming off of one war she wanted to hear of another, but in a way she also was curious. Maybe they could share lessons between the two.
"I'd...be interested to hear the story if you ever have time to tell it", she said.
She smiled again as he...tried...to compliment humans. "Well we're just mimicking you anyway I think". Wing structure and all.

Zazu nodded, "While our situation here is indeed dire, it is not the worst things have ever been. If anything it is that we are the least prepared for it." he sighed softly, "I would have to get with Rafiki to tell you much about them, we only have the records and I know only glimpses of it all." he chuckled, "I prefer my duties to his, remembering proper decorum and the events of the present... instead of studying the past." he proclaimed.
"Well, they say mimicry is flattery. We birds are diverse and polite enough to accept you, despite the need for the glider. Don't worry, my... propriety is for the royalty, I am a bit more laid back toward lesser creatures."

Tara nodded. "I think the war we just finished could be seen that way too, for good or bad. It came right after another one that was supposed to stop it all and it helped do that but...at a greater cost of just having another war in the first place. It sounds like I really should talk with Rafiki". For both the history and it just sounded like the monkey was something else!
"Yeah no airs required with me", she grinned, then shook her head, knowing "Bili" was now included in the Royal category mentioned. "And that's something I'm going to have to get used to, a kid I met as a peer on the trip here now being a prince of sorts of these lands, or royal at any rate. We're not best friends or anything, Kabili and me, by the way, just met on the trip over but...I dunno surviving something like this together it has sort of made us allies, and I promised to help him all I can if the adults of our group try to cause trouble, even on to not mentioning I met him". She wasn't sure why she was explaining all of this to Zazu.
Tara next stood, "Well let's try this again, far as I can with what I have". Again, she would need to work out the flaps and a way to direct them, but she could test the basic theory again with what she was able to accomplish with the straps she did have.

Zazu chuckled, "That is the first time in a while I have heard anyone want to talk to him... I must say!" though the same came about regarding himself, between Simba and Kabili.
The bird hrmed, "You know by now I tend always to be formal." he said, practically as a warning, "Yes... but do remember that while bowing and curtsying are expected in formal situations... outside of their official capacity, they are still people, who happen to have duty that is hard to keep separate." The bird looked at her, seeing if she understood, but clarifying regardless.
"My point being... They may appreciate dropping the formality when they can, Kiara certainly does. I am not sure of the princes. As they say, it can get lonely even in a crowd." he said, "You seem entertained enough by my... butler-ness, which I take as you not objecting to it." he noted.
He turned his attention to the glider, "Yes... I have some time to watch this, if nothing else to assist you with the adjustments later." he smiled, "I must admit that watching a monkey become a bird is most amusing." he chuckled, doing his best to show it was in good nature.

Tara smirked a bit as Zazu was surprised by her wanting to talk to Rafiki. Yeah from what she'd heard of him he might be a bit much, but she felt she could handle him. Hopefully.
She had told Bili, outright, that she wouldn't be calling him Your Highness, because it was weird, as she stated to Zazu; but didn't figure there was any point in upsetting the bird by saying such again now about the bowing.
"Oh no the Butler-ness is fine", she smiled, "And I wouldn't ask people to change who they were anyway, I'm just reassuring that you don't have to always be formal, but whatever you want to do", she clarified.
She laughed at his Monkey Becoming a Bird comment. "No doubt it is", she agreed. "Well this monkey's gonna try again, and to further understand the adjustments I do have to make", Tara went on, preparing and taking off into the wind again.

Zazu gave her a nod, "Indeed, but people can certainly change who they are, if they want." he said, referring to more Kabili becoming a lion for instance. "You'll get used to me, just as Kabili has." he chuckled.
The hornbill took flight right behind her, doing his best to keep up and hang back so he could watch her. He would have a genuine smile... more than his polite one, he was quite pleased with this monkey. He could see why Simba enjoyed sharing lionhood with Kabili so much, and was feeling a similar pride of his birdness. Zazu veered off to find a perch, to watch her landing from a static position.

"If they want", Tara agreed as to people changing. Of both people and animals, and at times from environment alone. She'd already noticed that between what she had been able to see of Sam (as he was called then) on the plane ride here, before the crash, and now since both of their losing the last parent they had left, but his own finding adoption among royal lions, he seemed a bit less shy than he had then.
Even without knowing her own future, no doubt her own experiences would, and had, irreparably changed some things as well. She'd proven things to herself by just surviving, aid by a clouded leopard aside, and was seemingly fast track putting all the aviation knowledge she'd before just stored into practical use now and with gliders and solutions.
Fixing the planes, or one, could really be within the realm of possible maybe...depending on what parts were salvageable and even who was left.
She pondered over all this as she went through another test, keeping the focus she needed to upon the task of course, and as a powerful gust shot her up, even more so. She wasn't worried, or not too much, and in fact the further vantage point was nice, the wind dipped and pulling a strap, Tara adjusted and was actually able to catch it again.
Ok, about this time she would use it to safely land herself, but she had worked at that, how long could she stay aloft this time? Only a few extra minutes, but she was pleased with her further understanding of use of the currents and shot Zazu another grin. It should have made her more nervous, having him watch, but she found she liked the audience in a way and especially for any insight he had.

A chuckle erupted from the bird, he was seeing much potential from Tara. Sure, he was guiding Kabili to be his successor... but there was another side to Zazu. A side which this girl, Tara, was getting through to. His chest swelled with pride as he watched her glide. He had not caught it until he took his present position. Spotting her grin, he flew in close once more.
"Ah... just like a fledgling." he smiled, one might say with pride but he played little to no part here, yet. "I see potential in you." he nodded, "But you have much to learn." he stressed that word distinctively. "I see your limitations..." Zazu said, humming. "You must keep learning the wind, that is for sure..."
He now saw a relationship budding, any worry about the mechanics of what she was doing were gone. He... believed in her. "That said, if anyone is a bird-brain it is you." he chuckled, "I implore you." he bowed slightly. "Make plans to build your nest, err... tree-house nearby us birds." He smiled softly, gesturing to the east where, presumably, most birds including him nested. "From the sky perhaps you can choose a tree, given the wind blows in your favor."

Tara grinned as Zazu said he saw 'much potential' in her. Of course she hoped she was beyond the 'potential' stage by now, but...even entering, and having entered, teen-years, she had only just begun to actively take her lifetime of watching her father and moved to trying to guide planes herself (and had been nowhere near solo in that) so maybe it was actually very accurate.
Though catching wind direction was, in some ways, easier than guiding a whole plane.
Zazu was merely commenting on what she had left to learn vs. what she already showed 'potential' in, and yet Tara was struck with a sense of regretful nostalgia. It should still be her father here showing her these things...
Not that she wasn't grateful for Zazu's tutelage thus far.
Tara shook off her thoughts, "Yeah, it works more like...what are those things, uh, animals...gliding squirrels I think, but I'm gonna get the system to work like wings as much as I can".
She was just wondering if he was interested in continuing to help her, when Zazu was the one to mention she should set up her nest near 'him and the other birds'. "Yeah, I think that's a great idea, and if you think they wouldn't mind". She wasn't sure yet if the invitation extended to Yun Mibu, but...since he stayed in groves of trees, maybe there would still be one nearby if the birds were nervous of a large cat. "Um, where do you all typically nest?", she asked. Best find out and see what she could work with in terms of tree-houses, and which tree to pick, as he said.

"Flying squirrels." Zazu squawked, "Oh, er excuse me. Carry on." his beak kept a smile.
The hornbill chuckled, bringing his wing to his chest. My neighbors? if they can stand me, I am certain they will like you!
Zazu brought his wing to the air, pointing in the direction of Mizimu Grove. "Just where the trees begin to get dense, I must keep an eye out for my Morning Report after all." he brought his wing in to under his beak in thought, then kicked up to flap! He took flight, and circled her so she may follow. "Off we are, then!

Flying squirrels seemed to surprise Zazu. He tried to not make a large issue of it, but Tara was not curious. "Yes, do you not have those here?", she asked, realizing how little she knew of what animals could be found where, even with the research she had done (some) before coming to Africa.
But then she hadn't expected to be talking to any!
She smiled, liking Zazu even more if he could make fun of himself, as he did when speaking of the neighbors. "Great, and I am easy to get along with, or I think, it was just some of the older ladies back home had too much opinion, ya know?". He might not.
Zazu pointed out where it was and offered to take her, Tara tested the wind once more to see if she could fly there, Hmm...with a running start maybe...
"I'll see how long I can glide after you and if I have to walk I have to walk". She moved the sail, a more manageable size now, to behind her and running along caught air enough to lift again, but only as high as need be and follow.

The bird shook his head, "I have seen them before, but not around here." he explained, "Nor up close, for that matter." He kept his smile however, "I would have to agree with you, Tara... Have you trouble speaking to older people?" he asked, the bird himself definitely qualified.
"Just let me know if you fall. Err, fall behind!" he exclaimed after realizing what he had said, failing to think before he spoke, which would be why he quickly got his run-up, and was into the air! He was back to circling her, letting her take flight before he began leading proper, and once she was ready...
Zazu led her over the trees, his direction toward a grove of small ones, it stood out like any other grove, but the most notable feature was that it looked a home for small birds, and fittingly enough, small enough trees for non-birds to use. Almost perfect for leopards, if small, and more than suitable for a tree house, or whatever 'nest' Tara planned on.
Zazu's own was near the edge, giving him a good view of things outside the grove, but the trees on the edge itself looked vacant, as did more than a few in as far as Zazu's. The birds clearly preferred being in the center of it all, but not exclusively, at least one that Tara could see lived on the very edge, and waved at the both of them when they arrived.

Zazu clarifed he knew what Flying Squirrels were (so the name hadn't confused him) but he hadn't seen any around here. "Hmm...not sure if that's good or bad", Tara smiled, "They sound like good company, but maybe they would also get in the way of my flight path".
Tara could tell that Zazu was...on the older side, as far as bird ages went no doubt, and so had to smile at his question. Not where it pertained to him obviously. She thought for a bit, "It depends on them honestly. I would love to have been able to drop by some of my neighbor's places for a glass of lemonade and to tell them about the latest things in aviation I learned, but...most of them would have just told me how I should be doing something more befitting a young lady".
But was that, and putting all the blame on their end, fair? Tara admitted that she should ask herself.
"Though...if I'm honest, I do the same to them, not interested when they talk about their cross-stitch", she admitted with a small smile, before it fell. "Plus...some of their son's and such flew, for the war, so...they could just not want to talk about it for that I know", she also admitted.
The War was such a tricky topic, it had given them (America at least) a female flight force Tara had loved following the news of, but...so much more bad for all that.
Tara did blink in confusion a bit as he mentioned Falling, though he changed it to Falling Behind. She grinned, "Oh don't worry, I will tell you about either, though the first might just be a prolonged yell".
Really she wasn't confident enough in the glider's success to be making jokes about what could still feasibly happen, and had already happened once too many times with the plane crash and all, but humor also got her through trial and error and...the wind felt stable enough as she followed. She would probably be fine.
After running into the wind herself and taking off, she nodded once she had enough of a handle to follow, and tilted, perfecting steering as she followed Zazu in a real test of that, and one she was glad of for helping her prove to herself that she could pick a direction and 'fly' there, with some adjustments made for the mode.
As they came over the trees, Tara glanced over them, thinking about Yun Mibu even if in just a visiting capacity. She did plan to bring the clouded leopard up to Zazu, eventually. As one of the birds waved at them, she waved back, as safely as she could and not letting go fully of the glider even with one hand.

The hornbill scoffed, "In the way? The skies must be crowded or something where you are from." he chuckled, "We needn't worry about interfering with each other around here, with all the space in the air!" he assured, as stuffy as he could be, he spoke well about others in the general sense.
Zazu put his wing to his neck, as if he had a shirt collar to adjust. "More befitting a young lady?" he raised a brow, "Like what?" he questioned after they had taken their flight, along the flight Zazu glanced back at her, and swooped downward early to take a low altitude path to his nest, plenty for Tara to choose a good spot to land and so to join him, while not diverting too far from his intended course.
Upon arrival, he would dig his talons into a branch, swing around, and then end up facing her eye-to-eye!
