Oh lord. He was going to try that approach now? Did he not know he was talking to an Outlander who understood exactly that? Yet, even then, he couldn't imagine that they had it as bad. "The Outlands are bad, yes. But I've never heard of workhouses where we make slaves of our cubs," He told him in a very smooth, almost blunt manner. "But as you can tell, I'm not here to talk of who has the greater shortcomings. Or I'd have left a long time ago"
From the top? This man did not just say that. Laughing a little louder this time he shook his head. "You have delusions of grandeur it seems," He then stated point blank. "You don't know what the world is truly like until you've been at both the top and bottom. And you strike me as what the boy calls "rich"."

The human nodded, "Precisely, you have some reason to hear me out, and that is all I ask. I only want to... help."
He hrmed, "Well, if you've been at the bottom, and I come from the top, is that not good enough?" he said, phrasing it as a them thing. He chuckled at the suggestion. "Successful. We never had workhouses, we were at least that kind. We raise our young for 10 years before work is put in front of them. They aren't exactly cubs. It is not too far from having those young lions out hunting." he shrugged, dismissively. "The alternative is their families starve. We let them work, not force them. Society might demand it, but so does nature." he defended.
"You won't get anywhere without the support of the kind of people on top, and they are all greedy and self-serving. You need someone who is on top, or close enough to it, but doesn't support the system. Someone like me. That's how you make change, you get someone who is being held back to make an opening." he chuckled.

Ten years old? The alternative was their families starve? That was... Well, if he'd heard correctly and the boy had said he was fourteen to someone before, that was hardly a good argument. Their families shouldn't have to starve, and no child should be doing hard labor but... "I suppose the nature of the work is what matters more. But ten while old in my years appears to be nothing to the human years. At least as I understand it," He noted. "But if I had it my way - if any of us did. No child would be threatened with starvation."
Hm... That sounded more like it. Though he did have to say that authority was hardly his favorite kind of standing. "Mmmm... Perhaps, but to find those that don't support the system is not an easy prospect," He noted as he flicked a rock to the side from boredom. "Especially when you're in a monarchy."

Carl nodded, with a dismissive shrug, "At the same... stage of life, our children are learning to work, when yours are learning to hunt." the human explained, sure he could exploit the lion's lack of knowledge, but he seemed too smart to fall for that so easily. He hrmed, "Have these lands never faced starvation? Has there never been a terrible drought that forced the children to help in finding food?" it surely was a paradise in Carl's mind if not.
He smirked as his indifference turned to confidence, "You just need to know where to look. Monarchy or not, you do not become a leader without being the type to seek more." he thought, "I'm already seeking out those interested in power, seeking those who want a change in the balance of power lines up quite nicely. Someone who lacks respect or power... who may be dreaming even now of selling their boss out." he chuckled "I've seen many employees do that, both for and against my father's company."

Learning to hunt? He had to snort a little.
Though he guessed that was the lion in him talking, he’d never exactly had a daughter. And his time as a cub was spent learning to lead his now dead pride unfortunately. But he did grimace when the man mentioned the kids being forced to do anything. “Of course there have been, the difference is they didn’t spend all day working. Children as you call them, should be children first,” he noted rather matter-of-factly. “The one time that changed we nearly lost an entire generation.”
The thought of what Scar had done made him snarl,
Hmmm the way Carl did speak in the latter did interest him on one hand. But the other, the one that said it was too good to be true. Was very overpowering. “And why pray tell should I trust you’re not a liar?” Chidi asked smoothly. “I have yet to hear just how you plan to do a thing. After all.”

Carl listened to the lion's words, everything he said he would analyze and find some way to use. "Children first, but what makes a child?" he asked, "Does anyone lay around, having food brought to them? The royal family maybe." his intent there was obvious, perhaps too much so.
"How do you normally earn trust in these lands?" Carl asked, challenging him. "I merely am suggesting you be more curious, and suggesting places you could look." he explained, "I can give you a simple plan, one that has worked well for us." he chuckled.
"It's so hard to prove, to know, that I have no doubt in sharing it with you. We simply find allies on the inside, they express worry about things... We build up fear, then we make the fears come true. Our allies are proven right, those that doubted them look weak or reckless." he nodded. "Fear. Our war was sparked by desperation, a type of fear. You are much like us, which means we experienced things, we know how it affected us... and how it will affect you when you think of the same things."

Chidi narrowed his eyes at that. Even he would be the first to admit it wasn’t like the royal family to do that. Did he get along with them? No. But as far as he understood they did their job. “I would hardly say they do. But I can understand why you think that. There were kinds who were such,” he explained point blank. “So do I see what you’re saying? Of course. But is it true now? I wouldn’t press the issue.”
Chidi did listen somewhat curiously to what the man had to say. Tilting his head slightly, but still not as convinced by his words as he ultimately would have liked. Maybe because he had always been skeptical. “Well, you have given me much to think about,” he stretched with a yawn. “But I should be on my way now. If I do find the thoughts useful I will certainly know where to find you.”
He then added. “The good news is I’ve decided not to eat you today.”
