Bandit wasn't wrong to state that Mufasa had been still not old enough for death when it had come for him. No, he shouldn't have died. Nala looked sympathetic herself, not liking sharing such news or reminding herself of when she had found out as a small cub. Never-mind Simba's thoughts at the time and with all the lies she now knew Scar had fed him.
His pleading was hard to watch, not because she was caving, though she was still evaluating and even if it was ultimately Simba's decision.
No, they didn't need Rabia's 'morsels', as Simba explained. "It's...not as simple as that", she said, still kindly before Simba turned to her. "Let's not be the ones to make it that though", she answered, in terms of having to fight him out, he was taking longer to get to that point, perhaps, but not hostile still and she didn't want to make him such. "He's talkative, sure but...".
In that time and distraction, Kabili stepped forward to speak to the jackal, something that made Nala very nervous and nice as he seemed! "Kabili...", she stepped forward again, but paused and let her son speak, and was proud of what and how he said it. "Exactly", she stepped up to give Kabili a small smile, "We are sorry, Bandit, but there was a reason even for Mufasa's decision and we must uphold it. Getting involved in a jackal war would be...far more than the Pride Lands can commit to at the moment".
Simba was right, they didn't need to explain their own problems and with a war looming at their own borders, but she tried to also be gentle and diplomatic with it. Though even before Zazu brought the subject up, it seemed Kabili might have a knack for diplomacy.

Bandit stared, "I-I don't mean nothin' by it, it's just how we talk..." he lowered his ears, up to now he was just being rejected, but he hated that he had mis-spoke like that. "B-but it was a long time ago..." he sighed, "An alliance would be best for everyone..." he pleaded. "Come on we got things in common... this alliance was so important, that's why... why they sent me." he gulped.
He looked away over toward the Backlands and Outlands. "...They hoped Mufasa would remember me." he let out a low whine, "It was always my dream to meet him." he sighed, "I understand you honor him..." he frowned, "...I guess it wasn't important enough to him to tell anyone about us." he said, turning and kicking some dirt. Not knowing it was far more likely that Mufasa's untimely death that left his son in the dark on history.
"I'll hang out in the Outlands... if you want to talk to me, or... something." he informed, but was not yet leaving, just informing them of his choice of where to go.

The king sighed, but nodded understandingly "Good point..." he responded, while they were rejecting him it was different if he saw them as enemies, rather than just unfriendly... or gave him motivation toward some kind of plot.
Simba had his qualms, especially after the time with Zira, of Kabili stepping up. He was also as pleased as Nala when he spoke kindly. "Well said, son. What is best is not getting involved." he claimed, "The pridelands have our own needs to take care of." he gulped as Bandit began showing more emotion. It earned some trust, predicated on these feelings he was showing being genuine.
He sighed, and opted to offer some comfort since Bandit had stated his intent to leave to the Outlands. "I'm sure he is proud of what you have done, even if he is no longer with us." As long as what he said was true of course. He did not want to make anyone a target by saying he would consult them about his story, but he would.

Kabili was just as nervous as the other two.
And though he expected to be scolded - it felt good to see that both of his parents supported him. Even spoke up in praise. Maybe he was better at this type of thing than he gave himself credit for sometimes. He didn’t however speak up again as he let the adults speak further.
He... Did feel terrible the way that Bandit looked. Like he could only guess what was going through his head. Especially as he could hear the king and queen speaking behind him in a whisper. He could of course hear what they were saying he could not.
When he did speak up in defeat about going to the Outlands. Though he smiled at Simba’s last words about Mufasa being proud regardless of the outcome of this meeting. “And safe travels to you as well,” he pointed out. “I hope your kingdom will find peace... No matter how it happens.”

Nala knew what it was to go looking for help for your kingdom, and what it was to be refuted. Not the disagreement with Simba specifically, even with that and before he changed his mind, he had actually been the most promising lead she'd found in a while to that point. But she also knew what her desperation could have done if she had actually come across those who would then enact things from the Pride Lands and due to helping them out of a tight spot.
She also wanted to make sure Bandit didn't feel so hopeless that he fell for similar, even if that was just by her nod of back up to what Simba and Kabili said. "Indeed Bandit, I know the strength it takes to go looking for help for one's country, and especially from a prince".

Bandit smiled softly, "Y- Yeah, Simba. Maybe you're right... Maybe he didn't think nothing would come of it." he turned around, facing away from the royal family, "I'll have to tell my dad the bad news. About Mufasa, I mean." he quickly clarified that he didn't mean the lack of an alliance so much. "I got some other things to take care of though, and... I'm not in a hurry to tell him about Mufasa and his bro..." he shook his head.
"Thanks Nala... I just want my dad to be proud of me, really. I guess you know I feel... If you need help, the... offer's open." he made his exit slowly, headed toward the Outlands.

Simba watched Bandit leave, not saying another word to the jackal. He did want him leaving. Once Bandit was gone he would turn to Nala, still speaking quietly enough he wouldn't hear even as he left.
I will talk to Rafiki about this, there's not a lot of options for... proving this story of his." he said, "I think he's not telling us the whole truth at least, if the truth at all." he claimed. "He should have recognized you weren't my mother if he'd known her..." it was obvious why he might prefer Rafiki to Zazu.

Kabili watched the jackal leave with a slight frown.
As he turned to his adoptive parents slowly as Simba spoke. Honestly, he could tell that Simba was right about this at least. After all, how could they be so sure that this guy was telling the truth? It would have been like if he had shown up claiming to know Mufasa or something... Everything just didn't add up in a neat little bow as much as they would have liked it to. Not to mention Simba had a point about his mother. Wouldn't she have at least looked much older?
Taking a deep breath, he decided to add. "Think we should talk to Zazu too?" He asked. "I'm sure he would at least have... Some idea?"

While Nala wanted to give the jackal's story credit, she also understood they had to check it. Still he hadn't read insincere to her and she felt she would have known. She nodded, "Yes, Rafiki would know of them", she agreed. She didn't want to insult the jackal as to how he could have just not thought of how she should be older if she had been Sarabi, he'd been obviously nervous.
Kabili brought up talking to Zazu. Nala nodded, it was also a good idea. "I suppose, if you want to take talking to Rafiki alone, Kabili I will ask Zazu?", she asked Simba with a small smile that acknowledged he might not want to be left alone with the shaman known for hitting with his stick.

Simba sighed, "...The day had to come someday, and I'd rather you talk to the old bird." he scoffed. "Kings don't need advice from little hornbills for a start! he sung the line, "But yes maybe Mufasa shared that with him, or he'd old enough." he said, as he split up, "See you at dinner!"

Kabili chuckled.
What had that little comment meant? Though honestly, he couldn’t imagine exactly what yet. Having not heard all the stories of their adventures before the whole Scar thing happened. But he turned his head to Nala when he left. “What was that about little hornbills?” He asked teasingly. Figuring she may know.
Either way, he did wonder where Zazu would be that time of day. “Where do you think old birdbrain is anyway?”

Nala had not expected Simba to bring back up that little quote from their childhood. She laughed, next smiling at Kabili as he understandably asked what they were talking about, and thinking how best to answer, as well as waiting until Simba had walked on ahead a bit.
"Your father just once thought he did not need Zazu's advice", she answered simply, though didn't leave it at this as they went off in search of Zazu. "Actually I told him about Simba being future king first, but of course he also wouldn't let his thoughts go unsaid. Never did".
She shook her head at how both of them had been at that age and shared the story with Kabili as they walked, though not where they had been going, which might have helped detour him from making the same misake. "I came up with an idea to distract Zazu by getting him to talk a lot, not hard, and yet your father somehow turned that idea into a song about how great of a king he was going to make", she laughed. "And sure I helped him".
She then checked where the sun sat in the sky for the answer to Kabili's question, "Hmm...it's not morning, and he already checked in with the Morning Report, but he might be gathering less official afternoon updates near Pride Rock, let's check there".
Once they got near, she glanced around, it was so odd, having to find the bird. Usually he found you. "Zazu?", she called, loud enough to be heard but not quite shouting and hopefully she wouldn't have to.

Kabili... Smiled when she called him “his father”.
It had only been a little bit since his lessons concluded after all. So it was probably one of the first times he’d heard it and it was still new, exciting. But man, he could only chuckle as Nala recounted the story. Honestly he could only imagine how much of a mischief making duo they sounded like.
“Man, you guys sound like you had a lot of fun back then,” he explained as he put his hands on his hips. “You must have known each other a long time then, huh? Like since you were kids?”
Of course, being out of the loop on some royal customs he hadn’t exactly ever really heard of betrothal. Though it might not surprise him if he had since there were likely lots of rules to royalty.
Still he followed her pretty closely as they headed for Pride Rock. Honestly he hadn’t talked to Zazu much either but the guy seemed like that morning report was something he lived and died by. “Yeah I hear him sing that every morning. It’s kinda cool,” Kabili admitted.”Though I don’t know if I could get used to singing that much.”
As she called out he kept an eye out for the hornbill himself.

It was certainly ironic that Nala was telling the story of ditching the dodo, before going to seek him out. Once they reached the base of Pride Rock they would meet up with the hornbill. "Yes, your majesty?" he asked as he landed, and bowed before her with a flourish. He looked up at her, "No news, I'm afraid. Or do you need me for something?" he questioned, it was unusual to be called by Nala, and her tone didn't seem urgent or anything. Did she want to talk?
He sat up, awaiting their coming questions.

"We did", Nala chuckled as Kabili commented on her and Simba having a lot of fun back before, "Though I had to be the voice of reason keeping us out of more trouble at times". Not that she had done such for the Elephant Graveyard.
"Oh yes, practically best friends since the time we could both walk, and...alright, now that you're family, you're no doubt going to hear the story", she smiled, and acknowledged Zazu's silly match-matching only to maybe prepare Kabili in case the bird got the crazy idea to try it with him, though she was going to have other words with Zazu at some point, if Simba hadn't already, that he was not to do such for any of her cubs, Kiara perhaps being the biggest target as future queen.
"But maybe because of that, Zazu got it into his head that we would end up together. I mean...sure he ended up being right, but it really had nothing to do with him", she shook her head, and did not tell him how crazy she and Simba had called the idea at the time even.
She next frowned, "Thinking Scar had killed him for most of my life was hard", she admitted, of best friend status alone. But thankfully that had turned out not to be true.
Predictably, Zazu was not too hard to find. Nala smiled as he said there was no news, "That's alright Zazu", she tried to hide how relieved she was they wouldn't have to wait through an Afternoon Report, "Simba and I just ran into a jackal who claimed he and his family once knew Mufasa. Bandit, a prince from...Rabia. Simba is inquiring of Rafiki, but do those names sound familiar?", she began with asking.
She thought back, "He said his parents were...Caesar and Swindler, that's it".
