Bandit felt the wind in his golden fur, as he crossed the final hill on the way into the Pridelands. "The Pridelands!" he bellowed, he had no fear. "As beautiful as they said it always was..." he murred as he slowed his gait to a walk. "So much to see, so much to do... so much to eat..." he licked his lips at a passing rabbit. "Remember Bandit, yer here on business! But I mean is making friends really... work?" he asked himself.
He looked over the Savannah, "Pride Rock!" he exclaimed, making his way in that direction, quickening his pace to a skip. "I wonder if Mufasa knows I'm comin'?" he asked himself, he was making a habit of that today.

Some time after his entrance, Simba saw the prey run as the jackal made his way into the Pridelands. A brazen attack in the middle of the day, by yet another group? When would it end. As soon as the humans appeared, it seemed like everyone else woke up too. The Jackals had been exiled long ago, they knew their place, did they not?
But what he saw was a single jackal more well-fed than normal, it looked happy to see him...? "Who goes there? Jackals are not welcome to hunt in the Pridelands!" he said with authority, but keeping his hostility to himself. What was this jackal's story...?

Kabili. Kaa-Bih-Ly.
Bili had run it through his mind about a dozen times since his little “lessons” had started. It was... An adjustment, a little harder than he’d expected. But he wore the name as a badge of honor that now bonded him to his adoptive family in more than just words. They’d given it to him - it made him really their kid. Or so he felt.
But he also had to be reminded half the time when someone said his name that he was Kabili.
Either way, he had spent a lot of time trying not to think too hard on his presentation. (Stage fright and all) instead he was spending a lot of his free time running free with other Cubs, or by the watering hole. Finally feeling one with the strange land. Even if he could only wonder how his human compatriots would react.
He’d been returning from a swim when he had heard Simba’s familiar voice. And noticed the jackal... Well that was sure new. Hadn’t Simba listed them among the banished animals? He traced his memory and decided to go inspect for himself.
“‘Need some back-up, dad?” He asked.
There was still some hesitation to his voice when he said “Dad”. But just as the lion had honored him with a name - he had honored him and Nala with those titles by now. After all, they’d definitely earned them. “I thought jackals aren’t allowed in the Pridelands?” He asked as he got a little closer. Having clearly not heard his first statement,

Even on her leisurely walks through the Pride Lands, Nala kept an eye on just the typical goings on of all of the herds and denizens of the land; more keeping on the look out for trouble.
It was her duty, as queen, and also...she knew nothing as bad as Scar was likely to happen again, but one also just never knew and with Zira out there still with her vendetta.
As she spotted Simba and their new son, Kabili, talking to someone, she approached closer. It was not an Outlands lioness, but rather a jackal.
A sort of rare encounter and yet not of Reirei's group, she felt. She didn't want to further any tensions, and Simba and the jackal didn't seem to be in a confrontation, but still with Kabili there there was even more at stake now, and so Nala approached, and as usual, got to the heart of the matter.
"Hello, who are you?" she asked kindly. Yes yes, there was the whole Jackal in the Pride Lands issue, but if he wasn't being aggressive they should get his story first and then they would know how to proceed.

"I take that as a no!" he laughed as he came upon Simba, naturally who he thought was Mufasa. "Man ya'll sure make a jackal feel welcome. Mufasa! It's like ya haven't aged a day, and you! Gosh you must be Sarabi..." he bowed his head, lifting one paw as he crouched. "You're more beautiful than they said you was gonna be." he smiled a big smile full of teeth.
"I'm Caesar and Swindler's little boy! Bandit!" he laughed softly. "They told me all about you! We got a kingdom of our own now. Rabia! I'm Prince Bandit of Rabia, sounds great right?" he was as excited as he was mistaken.

Simba backed away slowly from the Jackal, confused more than anything. "Uh... 'Bandit', I am not Mufasa. He was my father." he looked to Nala, as if she had any more idea what this jackal was talking about. "We are flattered, but jackals are still exiled, for good reason by my father." he declared. "My name is Simba." he added, to not seem as stand-offish.
"No Sam, they are not allowed in the Pridelands, this one was just leaving." he said, though it was clear the Jackal intended to talk.

Kabili just sort of stared.
He wasn’t sure what to do or say about this whole thing. But it was kind of... Funny? The guy was insanely over the top but then again, he had been the one with the overexaggerated bow and worries he’d be eaten before that which was interesting.
He turned his head with a nod as Nala approached before turning to look at the jackal. “I mean it’s nice to meet you though?” He told the jackal. At least trying to be polite. But maybe a little too polite in some ways. “Isn’t this the kind of thing you send the message along about first though?”

Nala had no desire to embarrass the jackal, and felt a bit sorry for him as he went on with his wrong assumptions. She just smiled softly as he asked if she was Sarabi, and would have corrected, but Simba corrected his own identity. "And I'm Nala, but yes I'm his queen", she nodded.
"You knew Mufasa?", she was intrigued by that, and much as rules of the Pride Lands had to be enforced.
Nala figured they could perfectly balance restrictions and courtesy. Or she would try.
Kabili had a point, both he and Simba did in fact. Nala added a bit more clarification. "I'm sorry, we don't mean to be unfair, but...it's actually in the interest of being fair. Since Mufasa's time a pack of jackals out in the Outlands have started to agitate, Reirei and Goigoi" Well it was mostly Reirei "Our herds could barely survive the presence of one Jackal, really but...even if we made an exception and let you in we would have no cause to keep her out and she would wreak havoc across the Pride Lands".
Nala tried to still speak understandingly and gently, even though of all three of them there, she understood the rule the best perhaps and had watched hyenas do the same to the Pride Lands.

Bandit frowned as the lions stonewalled him, but he picked up on their wording. "Hold on now, you got me wrong! I don't want in, like... in." he smiled softly, "We're happy where we is! Now I wouldn't turn down food if offered but..." he wasn't sure how the Pridelanders saw it, so he was just not insulting their food.
"Naw, I was a pup when he exiled us!" he said, "But my mom and dad lived here before we was!" he smiled. He had not yet picked up on the wording, "Reirei?" he put his paw to his chin, "Huh can't say I know her, I know she ain't from Rabia. Maybe my folks will know." he said, "Mufasa will be so happy how things turned out, and I can't wait to see how his brother's Lion Guard thing turned out. I can't wait to see 'em again!" he grinned toothily, full of happiness that was about to be crushed.

Simba focused his gaze, Nala was right, they had to be stern. It wasn't just his prejudice, but he couldn't give one jackal a pardon for being a bit differently colored, and having a different story. He always trusted his father's judgement, and he had passed it upon this jackal. "I'm sorry." he said, in a tone that didn't sound sorry. "But you are not allowed to be here. Return to Rabia, or go to the Outlands."
Did this jackal really know his dad? He quickly confirmed that he had not, but he was in a way a messenger for them. "I believe he is the messenger... I presume Rabia has only jackals." he guessed. He hoped that Bandit would go back to ask his parents about the other jackals, just to get him out of the Pridelands.
He gulped, Bandit was out of the loop it looked like, he only had the old stories... and old they were. "I..." for a moment he lost his composure. He didn't like having to explain it to someone he was going to exile, it felt personal. "I'm... truly sorry. They have... become the grass." This time his tone was genuine. He did believe the jackal knew Mufasa, he knew some Outlanders respected his rule or him as a foe.

After Nala introduced herself, Kabili realized he hadn’t done the same. Which made him feel stupid. Since he was probably the most confusing of the three since the guy had probably never seen a human. “Oh and I’m Kabili. I’m one...” he paused. Hesitating but knowing in his heart he could say it. “I’m one of their sons.”
Wait he was the messenger? They had sent the prince of their kingdom as a messenger? Were they trying to get him hurt if they weren’t this friendly? After a moment he muttered. “Not the smartest idea...”
He did frown a little at how sad Simba appeared when he mentioned they were gone. But trying to at least be a little helpful, he echoed Nala’s sentiments. “Hey, Bandit, right?” He spoke up. “Dad and King Mufasa wouldn’t exile without a good reason. I mean I’ve only been here a short time - but he tends to be pretty fair.”

Nala caught Kabili's mutter and gave him a small smile she still kept discreet.
Bandit still thought Mufasa and Scar were around...
Nala had thought Simba (and her own) introductions had explained that, but realized even her own title of queen at the end could have gone under this jackal's noticing, and in fact it seemed to have done just that!
Simba...could be known to project a bit, and act the king he felt he should be, especially in official matters. Nala knew he would strike that balance between himself and duty some day and just gently aided it along where she could. He kept his tone stoic as he reiterated their rules, only the mention of his father bringing a softer tone.
He wasn't the only one trying to live up, Kabili backed up Simba's words. She smiled again, but made sure to watch that he didn't step too far from the protective circle of herself and Simba, not that she thought Bandit would attack, but a mother could never be too careful.
She glanced back to the jackal. "We are sorry to deliver such news", she meant about Mufasa's death mostly but harsh restrictions fell into that. She believed him that he didn't know Reirei though.

Bandit stared, but he nodded at Simba's assumption he indeed was the messenger. But shook his head, he would start to explain, but Simba's expressions, his more meaningful 'sorry', and then... the news.
The jackal gulped, stepping back. "Wh-what? No, no... Mufasa wasn't that old... About as old as my dad." he said mostly to himself. "Mufasa's dead and gone?" he was clearly holding back tears. "But... but that can't be..." he gulped, sitting his butt on the ground. He looked at the three of them, and how he had still not gotten anything further from them beyond orders to leave.
"Simba, Nala! Your highnesses...! We're different now. Come on... W-why I'm here is.... Rabia we got lots of food, the cutest little morsels ya ever did see! Delicious grass for the food to eat too!" he forced himself to smile, "We just want to make an ally of ya! You know to work together on some things!" his smile turned to a frown after he spoke. "You could use an ally, we could keep you fed!" he forced a smile again.

Simba winced as the jackal answered his soft words, with the harsh truth. Though it was clearly out of shock, it showed how he handled death pretty well. "He and Scar were killed." he said, "That's all you need to know." he claimed. While having an ally in what Simba saw as a coming war could be valuable, he certainly didn't think that Bandit was a good option.
"Different? You talk just like the hyenas do about fellow creatures." he challenged, accused even. "I don't think there is anything we can work together on, at this time." he said, trying to give his words some official quality. "We have plenty of food ourselves, by respecting the Circle of Life... we don't need to hunt outside our lands." he said, a tinge of offense. "Nala?" he turned slightly, keeping Bandit in view, and whispered, "We might have to fight him to get him out..." he said to her, seeking her input before he went aggressive with this talkative outsider.

Kabili was trying not to feel uncomfortable here.
Honestly this Bandit guy was being nice. But it wasn’t until his dad pointed out that he realized by food to share he meant... Animals, god he had to remember he was talking to carnivores these days rather than omnivores. So it didn’t mean the trees and fruit.
“Honestly, Bandit, I think you seem very nice,” Kabili attempted to be more diplomatic and politely to him. “My dad isn’t saying you’re doing anything wrong being a kingdom or anything. But if there has been trouble before - you have to at least try to see it from his point of view.”
Not that Simba never took chances. Hell he was a huge chance he had taken after all, but still... “If there’s one thing I’ve learned since he’s been here it’s that he does what’s best for everyone involved,” at least he hoped in this case.
