Simba nodded, "As we are in agreement, we come to the er... name we have in mind." he said, "It's more difficult since he, well, is his own person already..." he admitted, "But I still think we should name him as we would, well, any lion son." he hrmed. "I have been thinking of Kopa, remember? What we would have named Kiara if she was a boy." he smiled, "However, is that too impersonal to use a leftover name?" he sighed, "Perhaps Kuumba?" he asked, did he not realize it might associate him with a certain warthog?!

Nala nodded, in agreement also with giving Sam a name now, and at his current age, being trickier than with a cub. It mainly just meant they would also allow him to have a say and perhaps pick, depending on how they felt about the ones they came up with.
She smiled, "No, no left over names...and when the point is that he would be his own son of ours...hmm...", she thought, before glancing back up at Simba as he suggested Kuumba. "In honor of Pumbaa?", she asked with a smile to gently show him the error.
"While I admit the warthog's great...perhaps not". She went back to thinking. "We could go with traits of his...something like Kani or Kiva...hmm though those aren't quite there are they?", she recognized and asked.

The king sighed, "It was just a suggestion, and they do have some qualities in common..." he defended, but it was clear he understood it would not fly.
"True. Hrm. Kiva is too feminine... not that there's anything wrong with that, but for his name we want him to fit in." Why was he being so unintentionally sexist today? "Kani, hm... no not quite it either. But close" he looked ahead in thought. "Kabili?" he asked, "Does that sound alright?" he hrmed.

Nala chuckled and nudged him again, showing she understood he wasn't seriously considering it, or not now that he saw the similarities, and great as Pumbaa was of course. Not for one who would essentially be a prince if not ruling prince, though even Kion wouldn't be that.
The same logic with Kiva. One could end a male name on that syllable, Simba one example, but not when that short and scrunched together, as it were.
Kabili...
"Hmm...yes, that could work! I like it", she smiled and nodded.

Simba sighed, "Well if you like it then that's the only word, is it not? he smirked, "Except of course that he does. he notes, "I'm sure he will..." he said in a tone that implied he was not. "Why did I have to go and make our family so complicated?" he sighed. "Not that won't love all my parents and children."

Nala smiled back at him, but curbed joking that of course her opinion mattered the most in this situation. He was not sure Sam would like the name, that much was clear. "Well we'll just follow how he seems to feel about it" she reassured, next chuckling as he said he was making their family complicated. "A good complicated, and don't forget me", she did tease, and nudged him again, yet knowing he didn't.

He sighed, "Of course..." he looked Nala in the eyes, "I feel like all my children are growing up so fast, and Sam... or Kabili, is already grown when we are adopting him. I almost wish we could get a do-over... but." he shook his head, "It's not... too late is it?"
Simba nodded, "Of course dear, without you there would be no family. Just some guys eating bugs in a jungle." he reminded, "Which means, it is just as much your fault!" he teased.

"...but he wouldn't be who he is now", Nala wasn't sure if this was how Simba would have finished his statement, but still felt it was true. Everything from the prior years of his life to even his months with them and role now had shaped the boy. "I mean...if you had only had Timon and Pumbaa your whole life I wouldn't have known you. Would have been in signifigantly less danger but still I wouldn't trade anything", she smiled.
"Of course it's not too late, he still needs us and we can still guide him".
Yet almost speaking of the last point, "Yes, I'm so sorry for reminding you of your duty and reuniting and all", she teased back.

Simba smiled, "You are right." he nodded, "His experiences with another family aren't all bad." He looked into her eyes, "Are you sure? ...yes, I can tell." he said, "Still many great memories to make."
He hrmed, "True, I would be like my little brother if you didn't interrupt my Hakuna Matata." he said, meaning Bunga of course. "Do you think I'd have turned gray with a white mane like him too?" he joked.
