Nala tilted her head up to the breeze that came up off the Pride Lands and swirled around Pride Rock. Almost as if Mufasa were just saying hi again. Alright Nala, don't go sounding like Simba...
The queen told herself. Not that she didn't fully believe that the Great Kings of the Past watched over the Pride Lands (how could she doubt it with evidence like her son's Roar?) but she wasn't sure how involved they were with the day to day. She mentally went through her sort of Queen's Check List and realized that everything was good for the moment, the hunting parties wouldn't have to set out until later in the day, Kion was probably off doing whatever Guard duties he had and Kiara with her friends.
She could just relax for the moment.

Simba had finished his morning duties, and his good and long morning chat with Sam. Now it was time to discuss things with his dear lioness. He approached her, walking with purpose. This was a conversation for the two of them, no question about it. Sure, it would come to the pride and kingdom later, but Nala's opinion was above them all.
"Nala!" he called once he was close enough, "Dear. It's time we talked, about Sam." he said, simply. He watched her closely for how she reacted to that much. He was nervous, and wanted to approach the subject carefully, after all.

Nala heard Simba approach and sat up, turning towards him with a smile. One that didn't fade as he said they needed to talk, but changed to just curiosity perhaps as Simba mentioned Sam. Yes, little surprise they needed to talk about the humans suddenly in their realm.
Or one of them, but with the rumor of more always floating about, both from Sam's words and, well, it just made sense for Sam to not be the only human stranded from the crash of the odd thing, though they'd yet to see signs.
"Yes, I thought we might need to discuss the situation", she answered, her smile returning. "You look like you might have a solution in mind?", she asked in that at times humorous way of hers. Though he also looked nervous. She couldn't imagine why.

Simba nodded, "Now I know it might sound crazier than Rafiki but..." he took a breath. "I'm thinking adoption." he said it, just like that. "I've welcomed him into our family, and started teaching him to fit in... but before I go any further I need your support, my queen." he said, having a seat next to her, he didn't fear her, but he was nervous.

Nala merely smirked as Simba said he may be sounding like Rafiki, or worse actually, and just kept her own thoughts to herself for the moment. Plus it didn't fit the moment.
She knew what was coming, of course, but still, to hear Simba say it! "Sam", she clarified, of course he meant the human boy with them. She looked thoughtful even as Simba went on, next smiling softly as he stated how important her support was to him.
"You've the best heart of any lion out there, you know that?", she questioned giving him a nuzzle before thinking on it again, "And of course, I'm already quite fond of Sam, but...you know it won't be easy. There's so much about his kind we don't know".
But Nala understood that was sort of not too big of a hindrance, and if a meerkat and warthog could raise a lion! Maybe it wasn't so impossible.
"But I'm willing to try, for him and you", she clarified with another smile. "With any luck, he and Kion will get on and not just gang up to tease Kiara", she added, knowing how her two current cubs squabbled at times.

Simba looked away every few moments, he was clearly nervous about how she would feel, and what he may have missed. He smiled at her compliment, "I thought that you did..." he countered playfully.
He sighed, "That much is true, we know little about what he is, but... I feel like I know well enough who he is." he smiled, "Besides. Timon and Pumbaa knew what I was, and did not even hesitate. I wouldn't... if not for my status as King." he admitted.
He hadn't thought too much on how it would play out day-to-day with the cubs, just whether they would accept him. "I had not thought of that, I am pretty sure he is mature enough..." He tried to think of a solution, "We already watch Kiara closely as princess, we can keep watch while they play." he sighed. "But... if she has problems when we can't watch her, would she come to us? I think she finds me... overbearing..."

Nala just smiled as Simba countered back the playful compliment to her. She then nodded, it was true, who Sam was was far more important that what, and she knew Simba no doubt saw the complications that could arise. She'd just felt the need to also state them; though they wouldn't intrude on their both taking the boy in.
"Yes, that's all I was suggesting we may need to do", she answered to Simba saying they could keep a close watch on Kiara and Kion with Sam and while they adjusted to each-other, though she was sure her two cubs would be fine with their new brother. Kiara's friends would no doubt have comments but then they commented on everything.
Nala chuckled fondly as Simba admitted he was seen as overbearing at times, "I don't know, I think creating dedicated paths for her might have something to do with that", she admitted.

Simba smiled, his dear queen knew how to ease his nerves. "Yes, well... if that satisfies any worries you have." he said, was it that simple? Just keep watching her as he has been. He already desired that, that made things easy.
He frowned at her agreement, "I am not. The path of the king or queen is tradition... She must learn and honor them, she must be ready to take the responsibility." he claimed. "I don't see why she doesn't embrace the honor she is entitled to." he sighed. "I haven't even told her I'm keeping tradition and choosing her mate for her, like my dad chose you..." he admitted. "She just doesn't like learning about being queen."

Back when Nala had found Simba again after all those years, she had wished he was a bit more like his father, in wishing he would come with her to aid the Pride Lands. Of course he had later done that, but now...trying to be Mufasa was working against him. She saw it in so many ways, both serious and perhaps not.
"She will be", Nala reassured, "Just because she's not as eager to rule as you were at her age...though I don't know if any cub could be as eager as you were", she smirked.
She next laughed at the last part, and partly to ease the situation, "So you're admitting Zazu was right?", she asked. "And good luck with her letting you". Nala wasn't sure they need plan their daughter's life that far, but the issue of mates could wait a while.

He sighed, "I wasn't eager to rule, I was eager to be respected and get my way." he admitted. "She is older than I was, too. I had barely started learning about being king." he said, "I worry that she might become queen, like me not knowing how to be one. If something does happen to me, like Zira..."
He sighed, "My father was right, Zazu just was the one that told us. It was you that was right for me, I mean." he smiled. "She won't have to let me. I'll pick a guy that's a perfect fit and she'll appreciate it!" he said, his meaning was far softer than his words.

Nala had been aware what was behind Simba's wanting to be king as a cub, and what he'd thought it would entail, but he had come a long way with what the real requirements were and rising to them. She frowned at what he said about Zira. "She's not that powerful, that...won't happen".
Though Nala was aware she might just be unable to face the thought of losing Simba again to death. And this time with no surprise of his being alive.
"And just make it look like her idea still, or maybe she'll make it look like yours", Nala teased slightly.

Simba sighed, "You would accept her just choosing some lion and making him her king?" he gulped. "Girls don't always think when they have their hearts on a handsome guy. I just don't want her regretting it and facing the... the disgrace of..." he stared. "I would support her if she wanted to do that but it would be such a nightmare!" he said, not even able to say the word.
He sighed, "As... as long as she respects my opinion of him, seeks my blessing... I could, bend the tradition... Maybe. I'll think about it."

Nala laughed, "I didn't say that", she replied to Simba thinking she was throwing all tradition out. "Oh we don't do we?", she smirked at Simba basically insulting all females, though she knew him enough to know he wasn't really doing such.
"Well I recall I was still able to tell you what was what even after being surprised by how handsome you had grown", she nudged him playfully. "A bit of trust from both you of you and it will be fine, but...I fear we're getting off the subject. Or perhaps not, but back to Sam. Yes, I think taking him sounds just fine and just what he needs at the moment and being alone. Speaking of tradition I suppose we should also discuss if he would be keeping that name...".
Nala was oddly the one to bring it up, though she wasn't sure by doing such if she was saying she thought Sam did have to change. Whatever ended up best for the boy.

Simba rolled his eyes, "You, my dear are a woman." he stated as she took that to mean her, but he didn't mean to insult women, and it wouldn't take much to change his mind about them. He was like that, he stated his opinion as fact and then would find it changed after a brief argument.
He grunted as she reminded him "Well that was... Nala...!" he couldn't think of an argument, as always she won. He smiles, "Of course yes, Sam or, well. The name he will be having as our son. He is in agreement, and it will mark his new life and status as our beloved son!"

Watching Simba take the bait of their banter was sometimes a large part of said banter. She chuckled as he gave in and nudged him playfully and to almost make up baiting him into the teasing before they were on the serious topic of Sam's name again. "Yes, well he's already agreed then I do think it sounds best for his acclimating", she agreed also.
