Liki snuffled about, unaware of exactly how close to the boarders of the Pride Lands he was. Not that the little pig would ever wander so far as to go beyond the protection afforded him by King and even Prince of the Guard, but he was close enough to be noticed perhaps.
Ah! There it was!
The piglet had had it on good authority that a selection of very tasty roots could be found here, close to the boarder of the Outlands and other unclaimed territory, and he had now found them!
He rooted them out and chewed on them, still firmly on Pride Lands...well lands, and so a little bit falsely secure perhaps that any nearby predators would follow the Circle of Life and leave a child such as him alone.

Makucha took over patrolling the borders for his friends, he had heard of the strange birds and monkeys, of Kion, but he had yet to encounter any of that. Until he did, he was happy to be on the look out for them. That, and Zira... Things were tense, but he and his leap could do nothing yet, everyone was at peace for now.
However, he could do something about that, or take advantage of it. He grinned as he spotted it, a pig! "Hello... what are you, little morsel." he said to himself, as he came in for a closer look while it had it's head down in the roots. He looked around cautiously, "A little disputed border never hurt anyone..." he smirked, "And to try something new." he got down low to prowl, making his way in close. "You've come right into my territory." he told the creature with a wicked smile. "How are the roots?"

Even if Liki wasn't very familiar with leopards, the voice, calling him a morsel, was clear enough in terms of intent. The young pig paused his rooting about and wheeled, scanning, and his gaze soon finding the large cat that stalked forward.
He backed up, trying to recall exactly where he had left his sounder of larger boars who could charge such a predator. He really should stop loosing them, and for reasons such as this one.
Of course arguing with a predator was the farthest thing from his mind, but at the other's words he couldn't help looking a bit confused. "Territory...but...I...I'm still in the Pride Lands, it's not...", he continued backing up as he heard the question on the roots.
"G-good...why don't you...try them instead of me", the tension he was feeling them broke and he broke off into a run.

Makucha licked his lips, standing up as the pig took notice of him, "Depends who you ask." he chuckled, moving in close, as the little morsel took off, Makucha was close behind, "Hey! Get back here!" he called with a playful laugh, he easily kept pace, but followed him rather than going for a pounce, yet. He was confident he had time to get a good one. "I found you which means I get to eat you!" he snarled.

The chase was lasting a while... Almost as if Makucha seemed to... Want that? The leopard's eyes seemed focused on the piglet, and this was a very good thing.
The savannah was open and flat. Not a lot of tall grass or rocks, not much that could really hide a predator, which meant one would have to be particularly carefree or particularly focused to not spot another animal getting close. At least in this particular part of the flatlands that defined most of the Pridelands.
"NO YOU DON'T!"
Liki would have seen it: A lion cub with ferocious eyes running towards the pig as well! He was running against the line the chase was going towards as if he was going to crash on them! But Liki would know this lion: This was not a predator, but the leader of the Lion Guard, and son of the king. He must be there to protect the little pig!
Kion jumped over Liki, claws out and a growl on his muzzle as he pounced Makucha head-on,t he much larger feline. His objective? Push the other back, but not roll with him. He didn't want to pin him down, just stop the sprint and back off. Stay between him and his prey.

It wasn't for the small chased piglet to argue the logic of the leopard finding him equaling his getting to eat him, and thankfully he knew not all predators thought that way. Oh sure, being eaten was perhaps in his lot in life, but not today and still this young!
Liki gave an oink, trying to call for his herd, and yet in the next moment noticed perhaps better help! An odd thought, that he would think a lion cub only a bit older than himself was better help, but this wasn't just any lion cub, it was Kion! Leader of the Lion Guard.
As Kion got between them, Liki continued on just to be safe and yet hid behind a rock, with another layer of protection in case anything went wrong, and yet having full confidence in Kion to handle it. Plus...it was not everyday you got to watch the Lion Guard work.

Makucha grunted as he collided with the bold lion cub. "Oof!" Kion's plan worked, the leopard was prepared to roll, but adjusted, so he would slide to a stop. He leapt back to get his bearings, then walked right back up into Kion's face. "What's the big idea getting between me and my food?" he snarled. "Who do you think you are?"
Makucha was very pleased that Liki was afraid of him, that was his plan even more than food with the chase. Fear made Pridelanders weak, and would further his goals.

The lion cub quickly got to his paws again, his expression just as serious as before. After all, he was the leader of the Lion Guard. He has not been active for long, but all that drilling has started to take effect by now. Kion was clearly packing a bigger punch than his own mittens.
Kion moved his head tot he side a bit, so he could watch the pig go behind that rock, somewhere safe before his eyes returned to the spotted beast who was trying to make a lunch out of the piglet.
"The idea is that this pig is too young to be food, leopard! You are not allowed to hunt the young ones." Kion didn't have a fighting stance while he was doing that, no. He had a noble standing, projecting his rank over the larger feline. He felt no fear! Or, most likely, was quite good at hiding it. "This is the circle of life. But there are no leopards in the Pridelands. What are you doing here?"
And he gave a firm step forward "I am Kion, son of King Simba, leader of the Lion Guard. It is my sworn duty to protect this land and the circle of life!"

Kion successfully knocked he leopard aside. A small "Yay" came from around the bush, Liki being a very interested cheering section for the young king's son, since if he lost it would no doubt mean the little piglet's life.
"He's very good at it too...I hear, and now see" Liki peeked his head up to answer, then recalled that the rock was his second line of defense (though it was looking like he wouldn't need it, still...). He ducked back behind it.

Makucha growled, two could play the intimidation game. However he was visibly displeased that he was being inspired by Kion's bravery. He took a proper stance, "I'm allowed to hunt whatever I want in my territory." he said. He was clearly looking for trouble, "If the chase starts there, it's all mine. " he argued, "Or do I need to expand it if my food keeps playing on the edge?" he lifted his head up.
"Son of Simba, eh?" he grinned "I'll be sure to tell my friends that his boy is looking for fights."

As the little pig boasted Kion's name, the lion kept a serious face, lifting his nose slightly to look more important next to the leopard. All he cared about was that Liki was safe, and he would never accept such kind words if he had not earned them. But Kion believed he was doing a great job.
"This is not your territory! And Liki is protected by the Prideland's king!" Kion stepped forward with a strong, fierce growl "This means you can't hunt Liki anywhere! not here, not even at the frontier! You can't hunt cubs, leopard!" Kion had not asked his name and, well. It was going well without needing the other's name. AS far as he knew, it was just one hungry leopard troublemaker. Not an ambitious one. Kion knew how to handle the non-ambitious ones.
"I do not wish to start any fights" but he stepped forward with a lot growl "But I will not refuse if you leave me no other choice! Turn back, leave the Pridelands and no one needs to get hurt!"

Answering was no doubt not the smartest move, but still as the leopard said the chase had started in the Backlands, Liki peeked his head around the rock, "Nuh uh, I stayed in the Pride Lands, I know the rules". There was no challenge or argument in his voice, more just childish informing, though he then realized what he'd said, in a sense and ducked back behind the rock in case the leopard had any further comments and decided to try to say them with his teeth.
As it turned out, Kion wasn't taking the argument anyway. Well, it was good to know if he had made a mistake and got to close to the border he would still be protected.

Makucha growled back, "If a cub like you, can tell me what to do. Then they are on the menu." he claimed. "So you'd better decide where you cubs stand. Don't play too close to my territory..." he looked at Liki, "Or know your place as little cubs who get special protection." he rolled his eyes. "The other leopards might not mind, but if all goes according to plan" he grinned in a threatening manner, as he looked around. "The Pridelands might start feeling smaller. Haha!"

Kion didn't need to look back at it, no. He didn't need to see the pig's face to know he wasn't lying! He trusted the other cubs. Liki's mother most likely had said the pig shouldn't stray from the Pridelands at any cost. More than once already. And even if he did not, what was Kion supposed to do? Feed him to the leopard? No way that was happening!
Kion took another step forward, his stance was... threatening! Even if he was considerably smaller than the adult leopard "All cubs enjoy the king's protection! And if you have any problems with that, you deal with me" And a low growl "Back off leopard. The Pridelands will always be big enough for everyone who respects the circle of life!" Kion didn't know the plan, so that's what he got from it. "And tell all your leopard friends that!"

Liki wasn't sure what the mean leopard was talking about with Pride Lands getting smaller and invasion sounding talk, but it didn't sound good. Kion's answer reassured him a bit in that he didn't seem to sound like he thought the leopard could really try anything.
He inclined his head as he thought he heard the sound of hooves, "Oh I think I hear my Sounder coming", whether or not he did, maybe the threat of larger boars coming would also convince the leopard to back off.
