Whoa.
It was hard to believe someone as strong in morals as Simba seemed to be could have been a rambunctious kid like that. Then again, he was sure all Cubs were like that to a degree he was sure. “I can imagine. When I was on my own for a while, I saw all kinds of things,” he explained. “I crashed near where Timon I think his name was lives? But I actually headed the wrong direction at first. There were a lot of animals stalking me. I got lucky I guess.”
Taking a deep breath, he took a seat as he listened to what else Simba had to say. Taking another bite of the meat he looked at him. “Wait, we become the grass? That’s... Kinda cool.”
Sam nodded along, taking in what the king had to say. Honestly, it also meant quite a bit to the king he was sure that he was having this talk here. If it had been where his own dad had told him some of the same things. He imagined that Kion and Kiara had spoken to him on the same level as well.
“Well I guess it makes sense why you didn’t eat me then,” he chuckled. “Suddenly I’m really glad to be a “cub”.” He paused a moment. “But I can definitely remember that.”
Another thought also occurred to him. If they became the grass was that... It? He wasn’t well versed in the African afterlife. But this place seemed magic so it definitely made him wonder. “So what happens, y’know. After we “complete the circle”?” He decided to ask curiously. “Do we have an afterlife? Back home a lot of people believed in a place called Heaven. But I hadn’t really figured it out myself yet.”

Simba smiled, "That and, well... you seem like a monkey, they are not our natural prey." he said, they wouldn't be as nourishing as the larger animals, after all. He seemed glad that Sam was alright now, not in a cold sort of way, just not dwelling on what could have been as Sam spoke.
Simba tilted his head at the question of the afterlife, and looked to the sky. "Well, we do not know where we go." he said simply, "Mufasa appeared to me in the sky... Rafiki says he and the others like him hear the voices of the great kings of the past. Kion's roar calls on them to roar with him." he explained, "Father said the kings watch on us from the stars above."
He looked at Sam, as if to see how crazy he was sounding. "I don't think royal blood should decide if you just..." he didn't even like the thought, "An afterlife sounds wonderful... I like that word, heaven." he said.

Sam giggled a little.
Deciding to be a little more adventurous. Sam scooted a little closer, and rested himself slightly over Simba’s side. This was probably the closest he’d come to feeling like he had when his mom had been alive. And to be honest, it shocked him it’d taken him this long to latch onto well anyone but still.
He listened to him intently as he answered his question. Wait, he had spoken to his father? Sam’s brow furrowed. The way he said this, it seemed to him there was some sort of life after death. “That’s pretty awesome that you could talk to him like that,” he told Simba honestly. “If he’s watching us from the stars maybe she is too...” he murmured.
Sam listened to his comment about royal blood. “Well if the stories are believed. All the good people go to heaven. Your dad, my mom...” he paused a moment. Trying to figure out the best way to explain. “People sometimes send signs from there too... So it sounds to me like you got a message from it. Huh.” He said his voice drifting a little.
He said the first thing that crossed his mind: “I wonder if the magic in this land can do that what other things it can do..,”

He nodded, "It was only briefly." Though he would remember it well, Sam wouldn't have the context, and he didn't want to completely shatter his image. He nodded, putting a paw on Sam. He could not know, and naturally favored the happier story. "Good people?" he hummed, as he thought on that. Of course he didn't want evil people in this heaven, it would be a place to be happy.
He hummed, naturally a king came to mind, where would he have the authority to rule over everyone? The thought was perplexing. He again thought of Zira, but moreso her cubs, he shuddered, standing up as the thought weighed heavily on him... if he destroyed Zira's cubs, would her deeds keep them from heaven? "What about bad people? It makes sense, but... it's not always our fault if we are bad." he frowned, troubled. Even without the question of if they would have an afterlife... if they had their own heaven, what would it be like? Did Heaven have an Outlands? Was it the natural order?

Sam was a little surprised when he felt the paw on his shoulder.
Who knew he’d feel so comfortable with a lion like this. But then again, his mom got close to a lot of them too so maybe it wasn’t so crazy. “It’s nice to think of them watching us like that.” He then added. “I even believe it a little. When I woke up here I felt this pull like someone was guiding me before I even knew where I was going.”
He might have thought he was just crazy. Until he’d found his way to the Pride and this had happened. “I mean I could have stayed where I was and the others could have found me.” He explained. “But this little voice in the back of my head told me to keep going.”
Was there a place where the bad ones went? Well, that was a good question. “They call that hell, it’s a place where they suffer eternal punishment, or something,” he explained. “Honestly, when I first met Zira I think I imagined she was its poster child.”

Simba nodded, "It is good you did listen to that voice... and the same for me listening to my father."
Herowned, most displeased at the mention of Hell. As glad as he was that Scar would suffer there... "That should comfort me." he said, in a way that made clear it did not. "As king, there is a lot of responsibility." he said, "Every time I should be happy, it feels like it's... wrong." He looked to the distance, to the Outlands. "I can exile anyone I choose, but the first exile awakened a ruthless enemy." he explained.
"She wasn't always that way. Did I condemn her to Hell, and her children with her?" he asked, "Or were they born evil?" he sighed... "I can't destroy them if I am responsible for them..."

Sam finished the final bite of the zebra as he nodded in agreement.
Honestly he didn’t yet know if he was making the one hundred percent right choice. Letting himself be adopted and all. But he’d been kept safe, and didn’t have much of fear, so he was definitely thankful for that at least. So in the end, he replied. “I agree.”
The teen shifted as her noticed the stir in Simba and listened to his worries. Realizing he’d freaked the king out he shook his head. “Mom always said it wasn’t that black and white. Just because you do bad things doesn’t mean you go there,” he explained. “Sometimes even good people do bad things. Human or animal.”
He decided it was also best to change the subject. “Man I feel like I’ve learned enough for two lifetimes today,” he chuckled. Already feeling like he hadn’t even scratched the full surface. “The zoologists are gonna be jealous - when we find them I mean.”
If they found them he corrected himself inside.

Simba looked at Sam, despite his assurance, the king was definitely thinking of what the possibilities could be, and not exactly believing Sam's every word. "I would hope it is not..." he said simply.
Sam was eager to move on, and to tell the truth so was Simba... he finished his leg of zebra, and watched Sam. "You can teach me, soon, about... cooking. I'd prefer only one lesson to keep it... closed. Just my family, at least at first. The five of us." he said, as he said that he put a paw around Sam. -- Sometime later - - They had been at this for a day, but there was one more big lesson left to learn, so Simba had said. He waited for Sam to come. He didn't say it was particularly important, compared to the others though. Sam would find out soon enough of course, once he arrived... Simba would be pacing at the top of Pride Rock once more, where once the light shined over the kingdom, now it was only moonlight.

Was Sam tired? Oh yeah.
He stretched a little as he yawned and he had a feeling he was going to sleep well again given how active he was among the Pride. But he of course remembered that Simba had asked him to meet him that night. Honestly, he might have been a little more nervous if he hadn’t just spent the day with him, or everything hadn’t seemed normal.
So while everyone was winding down for the night he stepped outside and stretched again before approaching the king atop Pride Rock. “Man it’s even beautiful up here at night, huh?” He asked to break the silence. “I gotta say I kinda like zebra meat too.”

The Lion King himself, nodded as Sam approached. "Good, good. I have been thinking." he said, "As I said, this is your final lesson before I consider you my son... we still have the process of making it official." he noted. "The last lesson however..."
He looked up, majestically, a wind even started blowing through his mane. "It is not just about The Circle of Life. The food chain, water and the floodplains, the herds..." he said, "The Outlands, and further... the Backlands. The King and his advisors. The Lion Guard..." he listed. "All part of one whole." he said, looking into Sam's eyes. "All of them are important to each other, but only a few know it. The Circle of Life is more than just for food." he said.
"As my newly adopted son, you will find your role in it. Kiara will take over leading. Kion will take over enforcement." he said. He had not used the boy's name once. "Tomorrow, you will have your new name. We want to be sure on our choice, before we name you." he smiled. "I am sure you will like it, but you will have the right to object, my son."

Sam shifted a little. His last lesson?
He paused a minute, it had been... Man it just felt like he’d started, but he kept himself steady. Putting his hands clasped behind his back, he took a deep breath and listened very closely. This was not the time to be playful it was his last pieces of advice.
On one hand, he was scared shitless. And on the other, Sam felt proud. Or as proud as he could be.
But then he realized that Simba also felt he’d have his own role. A serious role. And it made him surprised. “Wow, I can’t believe I’m already... Just,” Sam nodded his head. “Thank you, Simba. I’m sure I won’t object.”
Sam got a little closer. His eyes met Simba’s, and he nodded his head slowly. “I just hope whatever my place is... I can make you proud,” he admitted. Finally allowing himself to take a few steps forward. He knew Simba may not understand what a hug was but he still of course wanted to give him one. “I still don’t think I’m ever going to properly thank you.” He chuckled.

Simba smiled, the boy had clearly listened to him, and he brought his nose down, indeed he did know what a hug was, the bipedal animals among them were quite fond of them, and he crouched some to give the young man the ability to give him one.
"That is all I ask of you." he said, his smile warm. "You can thank me by making me proud." He sighed, he had to have a talk with this with Kion when he was a little older as well... but for now he was younger, he was motivated in his duty and in his kindness... he would be proud of him in time, but the guard had hardly formed.
"Set a good example for your siblings, as well."

If he were any more on cloud nine when Sam turned in for bed, well who knew how far he’d be...
That night he’d decided to try sleeping between both lions beside Kiara. And for once he didn’t feel like the outsider looking in. That morning he finally stretched and stood to his feet, it felt like a fresh start at this point - like from this point forward he was a new person.
“Man I slept like a rock last night,” Sam muttered to himself. Unsure of how early it was - considering he was usually the early bird. So he carefully sat up.

{Entering Nala in by request}
Nala noticed Sam arise even earlier than Kiara had done when Simba showed her the Pride Lands same as his father had done for him. Actually, though that might have already occurred, in many ways, the thought wasn't far off and it was a big day for the boy who was technically already her other son.
She and Simba had agreed to taking Sam in (as well as a new name). Nala wondered a bit about pressing that last issue, but Sam seemed to take to it and view it all as a good thing, and the queen saw how it was a further acceptance; she just hoped Sam didn't feel they were trying to brush past his old life too much. As for the name itself, well Simba had a whole ceremony for that.
Nala stretched as well and smiled to the boy, "Good Morning", almost as if she knew it would soon be changing (and she did) she didn't use the boy's name this time.

Simba was jolted awake by Nala's stretching, and similarly awoke and stretched out where he was, scooting aside for room. He smiled at both Nala and 'Sam'. He took a deep breath, "So, yawwwn." Simba licked his lips. "Good morning..." he groaned out, it was like a holiday for their new son. "It's time for..." he yawned once more. Their son may not catch on, but Nala would be able to tell he was just stalling. Was he that nervous of Sam liking his new name?
"For us to make sure you uh, like the name we have chosen." he said finally, "Go on Nala, don't keep the boy waiting." he said, clearly trying to be funny as his nervous delay became obvious.
